  • THREE-Hole Platter: have seen those used to serve oysters, shrimp and fish on a thin bed of ice. The holes allow the ice to melt below the food so it doesn't get soggy....LOVE the hat! - it's a tornado of exploding mosquito netting!

    • PussyGalore oysters 🦪 are classically served on oyster plates. Unless served Bistro style. I’m sure you could put a thin layer of ice then place fish or shrimp- but when the dish was made- the ice would still have gone under the insert. Think Victorian dinner services....

  • Not many people can understand our love, and dare I say, obsession with setting a beautiful table and using our china. When my mother was a child during the depression in the deep south, (Louisiana) she would babysit for pennies, then walk into town, ( shoeless!) She would then put her change towards the family china pattern for her mother. There were times when those plates were empty but there was beauty and hope. Aesthetics are so important to the quality of our lives.

    @elizabethperry3458@elizabethperry34583 жыл бұрын
    • My mother’s story was similar. She came from extreme poverty. Once she started moving upward she collected old china plate by plate and quilts. I thought of her as I watched this vlog. She collected enough sets to leave a unique set to each of her granddaughters.

And it shows us how we can beautify our own homes without breaking the bank! Just perfect!

Last year I was so lucky to find to tall candle sticks with 5 branches on each for the candles, they really looked the part at Christmas with navy blue candles. The table cloth again from the charity shop was a gold brocade and the runner was a deeper gold with a beaded tassel either end. Its amazing what you can find for so little, and I agree with you Stephanie that you find what you want and the money goes to a cause which is a win win situation for everyone. Not to mention that its recycling at its best. 95% of what I own comes from charity shops: from homeware to clothes and everything in between. Its amazing what you can find and what people get rid of. And I adore the hat I would have bought it too.....too fabulous to pass up! Lol!! We too dress up for special occasions, seasonal parties. No one know what to expect lol!! Take care, looking forward to the next vlog xx

  • Love it when you go thrifting. Oh, if only there were treasures to be found like that in Iowa. I was thinking, you mentioned once there was an unfinished room on the other side of the kitchen, why not turn that, or at least part of it into a large pantry / china storage room. Now that Selmar has more tools. perhaps he could build it. Also, we are all curious if Selmar is now on the payroll, surely he isn't volunteering all that labor and time.

  • Beautiful Wedgwood in chambre de Rogier..Love that you took us to the Brocante Stephanie, thank you..but as a bibliophile I wish you didn't leave the gorgeous Decameron behind (ah well, maybe next time?) Thank you for sharing as always.

    • I thought it would have been a nice addition for the room that has her father's earlier medieval-style paintings (though I've forgotten which in the Chateau it is)! But moderation in all things . . . and if it's there if Stephanie makes a return trip, then perhaps it was meant to be!

  • I laughed when you spotted the hat and then you bought it was very surprising how big it is you look absolutely amazing in it and it screams party and now to see what you pair it with. The picture was perfect in the room and the other touches perfect,I would want to stay in that room. The plates are the best I was yelling for you to get them and you did. Please take Marie to see the dress the next time I think our flower girl would look great.

  • I enjoy collecting and using china. There is an American tradition of giving pretty tea cups and saucers sets as engagement gifts. The more variety, the better. (Not meant to be the pattern the bride chooses for her china registry.) So much fun to go along with both of you on this adventure to the brocante in Limoges.
