Update: new report about a leg fracture, it's a bit vague in terms of location and how traumatic it was. Still surprised he flew home with the team so it must have at least not been a big traumatic fracture that needed immediate stabilization.
thanks for the information doc ! i was very scared when i saw it live i had to stopped watching , thanks for the content!
Wondering how many maisonneuve fractures you run into In sports ? I had one slipping on ice but have played hockey for 25 years just bad accident at work.
I really hope this isn't an ACL or MCL I really want him to come back at the form he was playing at
@@erikacolbert7753 he has been an absolute beast this season. This sounds like very positive news for Ekblad.
@@dknadeau0912 or the Panthers doctors are bad
Can't wait for the team to disclose that he suffered a "lower body injury" just so we know
Well it was just announced 😞 out for the remainder of the season surgery required poor bugger
@@OliviaKawaiiArts yeah fractured leg had surgery out for rest of season and 12 week recovery time
It's so unfortunate too because Ekblad was having by far the best season of his career and was leading the Panthers to a really good season.
bruh everyone was healthy and suddenly barkov, hornqvist, and ekblad are all hurt smh
@@rickyrougs mfw all 3 of them are on my fantasy team
@@rylanseddon8514 no one cares about your fantasy team
Just really hope that he won't become even more injury prone. He's already had a few head injuries. And now a knee. Shudders.

No. Maybe a hockey mask. But a jersey is a jersey.
honestly just feel so bad for ekblad, was having the best season of his career then this happens.
Hope everyone stays safe during y’all’s at Athletic events
I mean, you are committed. This happened so recently. 💯💯 Edit: Also, all my hopes and prayers to Aaron. Get well soon!
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's he sitting watching all his feeds for an injury and then immediately preparing a video? Anyway, good content. Sucks for Ekblad and the Panthers. Hopefully he's not out too long.
Thanks for posting so quickly. That was a gross thing to watch, his face and the way he said it was bad. It wasn’t gory but it made my stomach flip none the less
In hockey, when a medical trainer puts up a fist, it means an "evacuation" is necessary aka a stretcher.
One of my favorite channels on YT! And I’m beyond glad he is doing hockey vids more recently. There are so many injuries in hockey that would make for great content
I fell a lot like this during a game, I cleanlt fractured my fibula and pulled my ankle out of its socket. When I saw Aaron go down I knew how that felt and it is not fun. I really hope he has a clean a quick recovery
Thank you so much for not neglecting Hockey unlike so many sports platforms in media! The NHL is by far the most underrated league of all sports on tv.
Certainly an American bias.
He wasn't even carted off the ice yet and Doc had the editing already finished!👀👍 Godspeed on his injury!
An hour ago I typed in “Brian Sutterer Ekblad” to look for this because I know you upload fast. Found only a few hockey videos so thought I was out of luck. After watching a few of said hockey videos, this came up recommended. Thanks for doing this. I’m a big Panthers fan and I wear my Ekblad jersey to games. Hope he’s gonna be alright because we’re finally coming together.
He's likely done for the season which sucks for Panthers fans
luke woodworth For sure. By alright I mean that he’s gonna get back to his old self, even if it takes 6-12 months.
It really sucks for us 😞 however as a studying physical therapist this vid really helped. Ah well I guess
Love the channel man, hate to hear or see someone get injured but this channel helps with what you see on a screen. Hope Ekblad has a good recovery. When I hear of an injury this is the first place I come to. This guy covers all of them.
Okay you gotta do a video on the ref that suddenly collapsed in the USC vs Gonzaga game. Holy crap man!
I just want to say, even though so many injuries are different so many of the same mechanisms are in play and I love how every video I'm learning these mechanisms so then if I watch a video I can kinda have a grasp of what happens and why. Thank you for the great and FREE educational content. This i why KZhead is awesome. Thank you for your hard work.
My initial thought was ACL, medial meniscus and medial collateral. I rarely consider ankle fractures because of the stiffness of the skate but the Trocheck reference was insightful. Great video.
I was surprised he didn’t bring up medial collateral
I saw this live on TV and watched the replays but did not really understand what happened until I watched this video of yours. Thank you, Dr. Sutterer.
It's great to see more and more hockey content, even if these past injuries can be particularly tough to watch. The update was surprisingly good news (Doc called it, looking less like a fracture with him flying home).
I love this channel. Keep up the good work Brian👏👍😁
Great content , Love your work
The fact that this happened a few hours ago shows how dedicated you are. Keep up the good work👍
You got your eyes on every game of every sport! Much respect Dr.✊🏾
Thank you for making this
Thank you Doc. I've learned so much from you.
My new favorite KZhead channel..Your the best Doc..
Great work!
This is a fantastic channel. I'm in over 10 hockey pool leagues and always share your videos in them
Great video Doc
Vacuum splints are super cool! I work for a local college during sporting events as an emt. and they are very helpful especially with leg injuries. From what I’ve heard so far he got super lucky.
This is really a great channel. You give so much information and detail that really helps understand what is going on in these situations. Makes me wish I went to med school :-) It seems Ekblad might have avoided the worst case here. It certainly was cringe inducing when it happened
Thanks again doctor!! 👌👍
awesome vid as usual !
Once again great coverage Doc, it was pretty nasty looking injury in real time.
Keep the hockey injuries coming bro good job!
I came to youtube to find the video and he already had the review up
Right when the medic got there, because there was no one in, you could hear him say "my leg is broken, it broke"
I hope for a speedy recovery for Aaron Ekblad.
Thank you for the hockey Content
Hopefully Ekblad is better soon! Also, I definitely appreciate the recent hockey content. Hockey players are notoriously tough and will play through injuries, so it's interesting to see the ones they really can't play through.
As soon as i saw the nhl clip i headed to your channel. I love your videos but the hockey ones the most.
I remember the Trochek injury against Ottawa cuz I'm a Sens and Oilers fan and I was watching that game
This was definitely insane. 😅
Brian Sutterer is the fastest uploader hands down
Hoping for a speedy recovery
I hope Ekblad is okay it’s always scary to see a injury like this and it’s going to be a big blow to the panthers defense
Out for the season
oo this reminds me of an old one, video suggestion. That hockey goalkeeper who got his throat slit and survived
As someone who suffered from a torn acl and pcl, grade 2 sprain of the mcl, tear of the meniscus, tibial plateau fracture, subluxation of the hip causing tears in acetabular labrum, leg injuries always make me uncomfortable.
I had a very similar fall to this several years ago. It resulted in something called a Maisonneuve Fracture. It required ankle surgery with a plate and tightropes to pull the ankle together as the ligaments healed. The broken fibula healed quickly, but the ankle took a lot longer. Also about 6 months PT. To this day, I still don't have full forward and back range of motion back in my ankle and my right ankle is like 50% larger thank my left one.
Had a similar injury (severe external rotation) in a fall while coaching roller derby. Luckily, only injury was a fractured fibula and a severe ankle sprain. The fracture wasn't found for a couple of weeks.
Oww owww owwwwww!!! I can’t watch these more than once 😧
Yo Brian can you do a update video on ansu fati's meniscus injury it looks to be very serious he might have to get a 3rd surgery. He got injured in early November he was scheduled to return early March but it never happened
Ended up being a fracture. Is there a way to get another video of what crazy thing must have happened for that to transpire
Im a medical student and love hockey, so this video is perfect for me haha
Hockey can be very quiet about an injury and what happened, this helps answer so many questions!
What do u recommend for tendonitis recovery because i currently have it in my elbow or arm and i thought it was my ucl at first but got an mri and found it was tendinitis
as a stars fan i hope he gets better soon
Hopefully he can recover from this monstrosity of an injury...
Broke my ankle 2 years ago. My surgeon was the same that works with all the pro athletes. Even with that, definitely an injury that lives with you due to the joint and all of the scar tissue. Would not wish that injury on anyone! Wishing Ekblad all the best!
Ouch!
Hey dude can you please do a video about ansu fati it happened a couple of months ago but we haven't had an update really since then and I'm concerned about him
I am not an athlete or anything, but I did something similar to Ekblad. In 2018 I fell down three stairs (it was January in Alberta so it was icy) I ended up tearing my MCL, ACL, and meniscus in my left knee. That had to be the most painful thing ever.
Do you live in St. Louis I saw the blues jersey and I live there and am a HUGE blues fan. Go Blues!
Ehh I hate watching that happen. Great explanation though. And nice blues jersey lol
Can you look at Daniel Gafford on the chicago bulls injury i am 14 an never to this degree but ive often seen myself getting the same type of buckle non contact injury that leaves me in pain for maybe 2 or 3 weeks afterwards
I recently fractured my tibia and fibula and needed a rod put in, when i was running and slipped twisting my leg... I feel his pain
13 years after a similar injury plus an injury to opposite arm, I'm now living in a hospital bed.
According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli #FlaPanthers ' Aaron Ekblad will miss the remainder of the season, requires surgery to repair his injury (left leg fracture) sustained on Sunday night in Dallas.
Any chance you can do a video on Eloy Jimenez’s pec injury from last week?
Man I love Eks.... this one hurts....
I suffered a broken ankle a few years ago and recovery was long and rough.
Fracture leg, 12 weeks minimum ,thats mid June but it’s best case scenario if everything goes right so yeah ,see you next year Ekblad
Dario Scuderi soccer player is the worst knee injury ever! Please do a video on that!
Keep the Hockey content coming.
Ouch
As a Habs fan, I watched Pacioretty get's head slammed into the side of the boards (resulting in a neck fracture) without wincing at all. I was angered and enraged, but no wincing. This injury was so cringe that I had to hide the left side of the video while watching. I wonder why that is.
I felt it
Odd question: in a scenario like this, what is the likelihood of the patella dislocating fully? Asking for a friend (who was me, about 35 years ago).
Thats probably one of the worst knee injuries I've ever seen. I've tore my acl in two places and Mcl. I definitely know that feeling. I just hope he recovers and doesn't have any life long pain from it.
Can you do the Napoleon McCallum injury? Brutal
Wow fast
Hearing him scream when it happened was just so chilling. I knew it was bad the moment I heard that poor bastard scream
Try and get into that position holy shit that must’ve hurt....
Question: how worried would the medical team be for a patella dislocation?
When are you doing worst nhl injury’s part 2
I have had 2 operations on my right knee and when I saw this in slow motion I could feel the pain he would have been in
I’ve always said , every hockey player’s worst nightmare is getting their skate caught underneath them. There’s nothing you can do and it’s almost always a bad injury.
🙏
That just hurts to watch
Can you please do Mitchell Robinson's foot fracture next?
Did it hurt?
HORRIBLE injury. Stars fans send their well wishes to Ekblad. I wanted to cry watching him in agony.
i was at the game. it’s was horrendous
Do these NHL injuries differ in any way from lower leg/ankle injuries suffered by NBA players such as Isaiah Canaan and Caris LeVert?
Damn, I get hella queasy when I see leg injuries like this.
I had bucket handle tear in my meniscus when I was 14, I had a scope done to fix it. When I saw this I thought he had tore something like an acl or something in the knee
Hi, are you a PM&R resident as in residency, or you are a resident physician as in "in house" physician at a hospital?
