  • Roger ending his career playing doubles with Rafa is the most poetic ending of all time. Never again will we see a rivalry which is so competitive, yet so respectful and wholesome. I would have liked to see Roger play doubles with Novak too, but I guess it would be a bit much idk. But wow man. What an unbelievable era of tennis. Emotions, euphoria, rivalry, sportsmanship, it had everything. Emotions are gonna be soaring tomorrow.

    • There's nothing poetic in Federer's retirement. He will retire with a 0-6 for his last match, not even being able to retire in his own terms. I would have pictured Nadal being so injured to retire like this, not Federer.

He won more points than Novak, and had like plenty of match points. And it was the 1st ever 5th set tiebreak. We're about 60% sure that Roger would win had the rule not been implemented, because he was holding MUCH better than Novak. Winning points in Novak's service games was how he won more points but lost the match. And as his last GS final, on his best slam, yeah I think '08 got nothing on '19

  • Rafa does not get enough credit for his racket skill. His volleys are amazing, reflexes are super sharp, his precision is as good as his power (hence the passing shots), and he has amazing court awareness. He just dominates in doubles because of how well he understands the game and adapts. Plus going to net against Rafa is a death sentence.

  • Murray may be behind by a large margin, but let's not forget he was the one whom had the pressure of an home Grand Slam. And what are the chances, that in your short career, the Olympics comes to your home town - at Wimbledon - and you rise to take the occasion. Simply magnificent. Then you defend it in Rio. Murray didn't achieve the same Grand Slams as the great 3, but for a Scotsman he did amazing. We don't play tennis in Scotland remember. Murray is a legend to us Scots. Also, Murray would never wish to play in a different era than Fed, Nadal, Djokovic. He didn't win as much because of them, but he competed, from a country that doesn't play tennis. He won Wimbledon - for Scotland. The man is a legend. All those who hate on Murray, please understand the fight he had to go through. He fought against the greatest sportsmen of all time. Sometimes won the greatest accolades and hurt his body in the long run. Andy Murray was a warrior of the sport. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic - we get it - but let's also appreciate Andy Murray - a fighter! A Warrior? One of the greatest fighters in tennis ever. He had to fight against the greatest 3 players of all time.

I think McEnroe was the last top player to play both singles and doubles in the slams. • For real nothing against Murray, but can we remember, Tennis TV, that Federer's retirement is the end of the BIG THREE era. Honestly, not to sound like all these other tards posting and complaining about this, but I can feel myself getting annoyed as the days go on. Federer's retirement is not about ensuring Murray is aligned with the other three, and Murray being present really does not mean that Big 4 narrative needs rebirthing. Federer is the reason the Big 3 even exists in the first place, and his departure is both the end of his own incredible career and the end of a unique, captivating trivalry that, as much as it has stifled other narratives in the game for the last ten years, in reality, we never wanted it to end. Big 3 always. Thanks.

  • Eso del big 4 es el sueño de los británicos. Lo cierto es que sólo hubo un big 3. No jodan.

  • I remember watching a doubles match in Montreal where Nadal played with Ferrer. Nadal and Ferrer got destroyed, doubles is truly a tactical game and you have to have such a tremendous feel for your partner. The rallies were quite great but unfortunately Nadal mis hit the ball and it flew right in the ball boy's eye, blinding him.

    • Thank God he didn’t! We all have solid examples of what happens when he distracts himself with unnecessary doubles tennis! The one most obvious, that cost him olympic gold most recently…

    • I won’t mind him switching to doubles career almost entirely once he wins 25 slams and holds that record forever with Nadal not playing anymore to break that record! Lol But before that - screw doubles! I want him to focus on singles for as long as he wins 104 titles (25 of which are slams), better yet - 110 titles and he clears the 400 weeks as world number one milestone, with or without 8th year finish as world number one! Once he does all that he can play doubles as much as he wants! Haha

    • @@Summon256 I agree, but I think that Olympics doubles was different circumstances because he was chasing crazy record of winning golden slam.

    • @@rgncajun21 My point exactly, duh?! It would have made that chase easier (at least physically!) if he only played in singles...playing the tournaments back-to-back like he was doing during that period was already taxing enough on his body, there were no need adding unnecessary doubles matches on top of that... ...He lost to Zverev exactly physically, not psychologically! The psychological loss happened later in USO final against Medvedev, but against Zverev - that one was purely physical issue! When he had a solid lead in the 2nd set - he suddenly collapsed physically and could never keep up until the rest of the match...many say and i agree with that assumption - is that playing additional doubles matches was the main reason of that loss...he had solid grip on that match until the cursed mid section of that 2nd set!...
