This woman has the most underrated vocals hidden behind her ‘image’. Always ahead of her time and always criticised to be, she changed my life.
Agreed
Blame the image on commerical crap. We're all slaves to it. Now we know though
Fr
You r totally right! This world does not deserve this woman.
@@evavivarperez1555 - Yeah, the "world" does deserve her: the average, Top 40, pop music-loving, musically illiterate folks totally deserve a mediocre singer like her.
Came back 10 years later and still get goosebumps from how amazing she is💗 A beautiful nostalgia piece
how i wish she came back w those backyard sessions again... specially now in quarentine
Juan Leite she will soon 😊
October 16 on MTV!!!
Rodrigo SM yaaay
how you feeling now?
she delivered, the absolute queen!
I read how people are talking about her cover of Jolene all the time, but this one is the real treasure. I come back to this all the time.
Me 2. I always come back here to listen. Very wonderful this perfomance.
Niki young bend over
omg yes yes yes!!
Beautiful
It has become a daily routine mine to listen this cover in ongoing quarantine. ❤💯
This woman knows how to sing.
cool
+Ananda Davananda And just another reason it's sad she is now shouting about smoking pot. "putting the dick in the pussy" & acting like a moron. Some people are saying she is happy now. But I just see it ending badly for her if she keeps this lifestyle up.
+Tim O'Brien I want you to know that just about every one smokes weed.
+Ananda Davananda Indeed she does. Check out her performance of "Karen Don't Be Sad" on SNL. People speak of how she has gone off track......No, not really.
Brianna The Donut what? did you just say weed kills you?
Wow, 11 years. Came here after watching ‘One Day’ to reminisce on this cover.
omg me too!! my favorite cover
sameee
I feel like The Backyard Sessions are the best of Miley
100% agree
totally!
When she hits "love" 1:41 and then vibrato...spine chilling. What a voice
It is spine chilling.... what a voice
Yeah !! What a voice , terrible.
+Jackie1957able are you deaf lol
No problem with my hearing . She is a crap singer. All tits and ass.
+Aragorn Elessar You were going great until the last part...defending someone but insulting other band, you proved that you are not better than him and have no education in music (or tolerance).
Her voice is so unique and iconic i wish she put out more music like this so she could be better known for her vocal ability than for her stunts
+xogulxo2 - lol. If she was any good she wouldn't have to do porn on stage to get attention.
+chanel quattlebaum - lol, no they haven't, not like this. It's the shock value. Her handlers are destroying her life. She keeps this up she'll probably never see 30.
+chanel quattlebaum 🙌
+chanel quattlebaum I think that all of these haters are afraid of Miley's raw sexual power, she is strait up confidant about herself and enjoys sex as much as any man in her profession. Even as a married strait woman, I think she is pretty damn hot- I love her confidence and Disney is famous for making child stars that lose their minds trying to keep up with all that puritanical crap they heap on them.
+chanel quattlebaum Demi is disney too. But they both are amazing and showing the world that women dont have to be all that men think of them. We can be whatever we want and still be beautiful. She still has the voice. Shes happier than most living by her own rules. and Shannon, I agree! Disney can mess people up. Look at Britney, Christina, Justin etc. I also agree with you about how hot she is. My boyfriend and I love her for everything she is. We listen to her all the time.
Relaxed throat, natural voice, and soul - yes, the best of Miley! Backyard Sessions should be an Album itself. Liam should refall in love on her.
It's music like this that really brings out her beautiful voice.
she can really sing
She could always sing
Yes she can! I hope people focus on her voice more
***** Filthy mouthed creature. Figures you'd support this woman's vulgar antics.
***** of course she can, i mean, she's Miley Cyrus
mdzx For those who don't follow her music closely, she's mainly known these days for her outrageous/vulgar antics. And that's a shame. She clearly has some talent! Anyone can be obnoxious. Not everyone can sing like that.
She has such an extraordinary voice. Besides Adele and Ariana Grande, her voice is one of the most distinctive and beautiful ones we have today among the female artists. She can be weird and have fun now is she wants. But you cannot deny her sheer talent. Country music is meant for her low, velvety voice :D
Ariana shouldn't be in this statement.
Alex McCormac And why is that my friend? Ariana's can hit supersonic high notes and has a beautiful tone. I would kill to have her voice lol :D
+Chan I get that but she's not as good as Miley.
***** really? I feel Ariana's vocal range and tone are unrivaled. Also, she is extremely beautiful :D
+Chan Ariana Grande??? hahahah wft?
How did it take me so long to hear this cover. The Jeff Buckley version got me through some tough shit as a younger man. This is gorgeous and a true testament to her range. Blown away.
This is pure art. Miley’s voice is incredible, this cover is probs one of my favourite. Let the girl live her life the way she wants and appreciate the beauty of her voice and the purity of her soul. Miley is such a great person!
True that
Late reply, but cheers to that!
her husky country voice suited surprisingly well, actually. more of this miley please.
lordoflasagna I'm really disappointed she didn't follow her dad's footsteps.
Um why would she? She's her own person she doesn't have to follow her parents footsteps.
www
Beautiful job. Talented young girl. Let her grow up..mistakes and all. We all make them.
Ah! A fellow grownup who has been around. Bless ya, Brenda Beyer, for understanding that people can, and do, often change radically from 6 mos to 6 mos, from teens to mid 20s. Wait til you guys get in your 40s, lol. I was a concert groupie, saw (still do, just did Bonnaroo), hundreds of shows, hung out with everyone from the guys and gals in REM, B52s, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Whitesnake, and gave Nancy Spungeon a cigarette, way back in the late 70s, when I was in my early teens. I've actually worked charity benefits with the whole Cyrus family. Kinda hippie, kinda dippy, but hands down some of the most down-to-Earth celebs I ever crossed paths with, and even though it's been a few yrs, I personally don't see that big of a change in Miley. She was very much as she is now, the last time I saw her in person, in 2009-10, and when I caught her show this past Spring. She's just more out front and blatant about it. She's interesting though, because she truly does march to her own beat, not the one made for her by execs at big tv and recording studios. Which is truly rare.
amen!!!!!!!!! a normal person!!!
i love you
Her career and choices made within it were not mistakes nor did she get to choose much of it. It's all part of having a career as an entertainer. But thankfully, she has shown her true talent more recently
Judging by the covers this girl does she has very good taste in music
true hahaha
The only pop artist to ever cover Cocteau Twins..that's really something
She says her Dad gave her taste in music, wide and varied.

I just discovered this beautiful jewel by Miley. I’ve always loved it by Jeff Buckley. Miley puts the song in another dimension. Stunning!!
Clear, beautifully done. Miley, well done,!
This song was written in 1950 and recorded by numerous artists. I agree though, Buckley's version is fantastic. Miley has matured so much in the past few years, that I now seek out her later performances. I couldn't stand her prior to that.
Jeez... if I had heard this on the radio I wouldn't have even known it was Miley! Why can't she be like this all the time!?
her voice suits this type of music. Amazing and talented
I need this version on Spotify! I always come back and watch this
almost 10 years and i'm still obsessed by this backyard sessions
she's gorgeous. though i loved "bangerz", I'm hoping she'll release an album with stuff like this on it. it would be an instant hit.
6 years later and I still get goosebumps listening to Miley sing like this, I love it. Her transformation is quite historic in the music industry.
I come here every so often, like twice a year, and it never fails to give me chills
This style of music shows off her voice so beautifully.
Holy shit, this is fucking amazing. What a voice, Miley is an incredibly talented vocalist. Goosebumps from the first to the last note. Wow, well done Miley!!
her live songs are the proof that she is the best vocalist, she sings with her soul and sounds beautiful
the best of your generation
dude I like this a lot more than pop
This is pop.
taurtue this is not pop haha
***** This is not a rock ballad. It was written by jazz and soul artist Nina Simone, and covered by greats such as Eartha Kitt and Jeff Buckley. Dare I say Miley actually sounds really nice singing this type of genre.
This is my favorite performance of hers :) Her voice is just everything here
Sexes in this class
I’ve been singing her praises to everyone for the last 2 years!
The backyard sessions is the best performances of miley. Pure music, pure talent without any gimmick or 'images' made by the entertainment industry
This is so damn beautiful
She "was" so damn beautiful too ;c
+Fire Girl3 she was and she still is
+Amber May If she could return like this ...
+Reefs Doodles really?? from this to "dooooo it"???
+Amber May YOU are damn beautiful!
My hat's off to you Miley. I have to admit, I haven't been much of a fan, but after watching this performance, I have seen a different you. You have more talent than I was aware of. I wish you did more of this kind of music, you do it so beautifully.
Her recent cover of Baby, I'm In The Mood For You at Jimmy Fallon's and Summertime Sadness at the BBC lounge was great too. Also her recent performance of Hands of Love at The Ellen Show.... ._. So she still does this kind of music...
Hands of Love was great. Have you heard her do Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - awesome i was very surprised to hear her do the Robert Plant so well.
My feelings exactly
All 2020 need is the backyard sessions.
October 16 - MTV Unplugged (Backyard Sessions)
your wish came true
This cover is such a gem. I come back here every now and then
That timbre.. That tone.....that power!!! omg! Miley you gifted!!!!!!
Miley's latest albums don't show what she is truly capable of.
i always come back every couple of yrs and listen to all 3 sessions. such a vibe every time 🫶🏽
This sends shivers down my spine
I absolutely love this. Can't get over how perfect her voice is here
this was where liam proposed to miley :/ can't believe this was just 2 years ago and so many things changed since then :(
I agree! Too much has changed :(
I still love her. She has a really big heart. She's only a "slut" (how dumb people say) when she's on a concert or so. Love her so much
CrazyGirl But that's the face she chooses to show the world. If that isn't her, why do it? One answer: for fame and fortune.
Adam Millson
mariam samaan Yes?
Throughout the years, I've always come back to hear this. Beautiful voice.
couldn't stand this woman for years!....now.....big fan.....beautiful voice....👍
I'm probably not her target audience, older female boomer, but yes, I am a huge fan. Not of her early little girl pop, but this song could be played on a loop and I'd be happy to hear it.
That beginning is so hypnotizing
This is the first time ive cried my eyes out listening to someone sing.
You might cry more hearing the original by the incomparable Nina Simone, or Jeff Buckley's whistful version.
Please listen to Jeff Buckley or Nina Simone.
@@wholeshebang1 you can hear the emotion in both of theirs
Lilacs are my absolute favorites. Hearing this song brings me back to so many memories of my mom. I lost her 4 1/2 years ago. Thank you Miley 💜👏👏
Two comments. 1) Her voice is amazing. 2) Whoever mastered this session deserves a Grammy, possibly an Emmy, and throw in a nobel prize to boot. There is no way to tell this isn't mastered in a studio: not wind noise, no artificacts, just a band member saying "good one" at the end.
Her voice gives me goosebumps. I love her so much.
Miley's voice is beautiful. And her band is really good.
Holy fuck she is so talented. What I love about this performance is how she sings with such emotion and connection to the song.
her emotion and deep connection to music is,, what seperates her from most pop artists actually. Her talent is a true treasure
Miley's Backyard Session Jolene is excellent. This song is simply outstanding.
I used to dislike her...but that voice is way too beautiful and in a way she seems to be not only nicer, but much more normal than many others
Sir, this video is 4 years old. She WAS more normal than others.
who's to say what normal is? I think everyone is constantly changing and evolving but Miley is someone who has used her platform to give a voice to people in need and just because she makes wardrobe choices you might not necessarily like, doesn't make her a bad person. She is just a person. A very young person who is still discovering who she is, much like all of us. One thing that can't be argued is the fact that she has a unique, amazing, and piercing voice. i'd love an album full of chill old school country type songs from her.
Sarah Lane hhjj
"Normal"? What do you mean? She wa always like this and a crazy girl smoking pot, weed and drink and grinding up on men shaking her ass. Y'all just payed attention to her hair. Everybody just cares about hair nowadays
Fabulous, she has got a great voice, nothing can detract from that!
true that, this is amazing, she is young and so talented and damm it, who would not be wild and outta control at that age!!!
I lost myself on a cool damp night I gave myself in that misty light Was hypnotized by a strange delight Under a lilac tree I made wine from the lilac tree Put my heart in its recipe It makes me see what I want to see And be what I want to be When I think more than I want to think I do things I never should do I drink much more that I ought to drink Because it brings me back you Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love Listen to me, I cannot see clearly Isn't that she, coming to me nearly here? Lilac wine is sweet and heady where's my love? Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, where's my love? Listen to me, why is everything so hazy? Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear? Lilac wine, I feel unready for my love Feel unready for my love

I adore Buckley and this is the best hommage someone could do for him. Really beautiful cover. And yes, Cyrus is the greatest cover artist I know. Take the songs to another level
Please bring this out on spotify!!
ikr :(
She has an amazing voice that no one gets to see enough of. She should do this more often.
Listening 8 years later... this is timeless
Wow is this miley cyrus always though she was a kids pop artist and never took the time to look her up this is fantastic.
This backyard sessions program puts her in a whole other league...good for her!!!
1:30 - 1:45 gives me chills.
Shanty Grande It's so friggin good!
The whole video gives me chills
have you heard Jeff Buckley sing this?
Me toooooooo
no matter what she does, You cant deny that miley is so talented
This song will always give me chills. Such a good cover
Just heard this song in the finale episode of One day on Netflix. And I realized I’ve heard Miley sing it before. Who’s here rewatching again after that.
Never thought I’d ever say this but this girl has talent. This is from a 54 year old bloke who remembers the brilliant version of this from Elkie Brooks. Whilst I still think Elkie sang the definitive version and Jeff Buckley did a fantastic take on this as well, Miley’s version is also top class and endearingly quirky. Top stuff.
Thanks. I was trying to remember who did it before (Elkie Brookes).
Agree. Elkie Brooks owns this song for me but this is a really good version. She's got a great voice. She should listen to Elkie's version and import some of her emotion into it and she's be even better.
Nina Simone did a wonderful version of it, too.
Katie Melua introduced me to this song.
Man I can so relate...I too have been highly critical in my thinking about her in past years but I've come full circle. Incredible and unique voice....talent with no end. She dares she takes risks.....I'm a fan now and I'm in my 70s
Miley still does covers like this and still always talks about country music. Why are people so adamant about labelling her, asking why she's not this or why she's that? Why can't you comprehend that she can be both soulful and crazy at the same time? Just because she smokes weed and dances around doesn't mean she's heartless "skank". What is people's obsessions with labelling things so simply and not seeing a person as a whole?
People have a hard time accepting things they don't understand.
***** Stop making dumb and unqualified statements. Soulful means emotional. She does have music that is emotional too. Just because it's not according to your taste doesn't mean what I'm saying is wrong. Rephrase and be like 'okay well it's not according to my taste' instead of denying what is actually part of her content- a lot of love songs. It's baffling to me that you can't explain how you feel properly without making false statements about who you think she is.
+mm1996 That dubious person is dense. You're absolutely right, people are so quick to label people as one thing when we all know human beings are complex and in a constant state of change. Labels, pfft.
you are right
+dubious Shallow?? She's anything but shallow, same with her music. You obviously don't know her nor her music and yet here you are talking shit. Her music is honest, raw and relatable. You can have an opinion, but don't go around making ignorant, judgemental statements.
Indescribably lovely...best version I think
Omg..her voice is so pure
My wedding dance was to this song. There will always be a special place in my heart where I will keep those memories tucked away. Her voice gives me goosebumps, just like kissing her did for me. She's no longer with us. But the goosebumps still are. Bless you Miley for letting me see her every time I hear this song.
❤️
OMg . This is such a romantic comment
I’m sorry for your loss ❤️
this is absolutely stunning. Her vocals are something wow.
I don’t think that I’ve seen Miley look more beautiful.
She never sings badly. She has me in tears. I love her so much.
I wish she sang this type of music all the time, you can enjoy her singing ability more
I really wish she'd do just a couple more songs like this.
Are you happy now?
Absolutely beautiful voice. I could listen to "The Backyard Sessions" all day long.
This is one super talented young lady who is destined for a long career. This song showcases her at her absolute BEST!
Why can't she be like this again? She was beautiful and soo amazing! An perfect role model.
She's 20, she's young and she wants to live her life and have fun, it's her time ! She doesn't have to be a role model, she doesn't have to hide her true self in a shelf because she has people looking up to her, she wants to be true to who she is, and although I never been a fan of her, I like her much more now.
***** She's 21 now ;)
Our generation has such ADD when it comes to music and what we think is cool. Unfortunately this Miley just wouldn't have gotten the same attention and album sales as the one we see now. Most of us didn't even know this video existed until new Miley popped up. It's sad too, her voice screams country, and I wish she could become more memorable for her actual talent and not for to rubbing one off on stage. The music industry is a sly devil.
hear hear sister
couldn't agree more, hmm
Sooo true!
I think Miley lives like there’s no tomorrow. She does whatever she wants to explore all kind of music. Good for her. Her life isn’t boring. She will never forget her roots though. It’s nice to see her always remember her “home” every now and then.
I love rewatching this
The whole range of this cover is G#3-G#4 which it can be sung by anybody and yet this is the only cover that is so ground breaking to me. Kudos to you Miley you nailed this one.
Nina Simone version isn't the original one, James Shelton wrote this song in 1950. :)
What a voice.
She gave her tone "pop-soul" to the music and I don't dislike it at all. Her voice embraces this song so well! Such cover , so well done! Amazingly!
I wonder how many more times you will manage to astound me. Ms. Cyrus, you are a veritable mine of talent - and there is at least one elderly gentleman out here that realises that your intellect matches your gift. Are you going to save the reputation of 'modern music' all be yourself? Well, it surely seems so !!
(sorry that should be by yourself).
Beautiful then, beautiful now. She honestly sounds amazing with whatever she does.
I'd take this miley for a day than the miley we see now for 100 years
Had forgotten about this song as had not heard it since the late 70's when it was performed by the Great Elkie Brooks here in the U.K , Miley continues to impress with her fabulous voice and song choices . Love her " Plastic Hearts " album .
Probably one of my favorite songs by Miley.
I love this part "I cannot see 'clearly'"
The resonances at 1:41 and 3:35 killed me, I'm still shocked
That "resonance" with that extra compression and ancillary reverb
This song makes me cry. Idk how she performs so full of emotions like this omg
her voice --- PERFECT
miley actually never changed the fact that she changed her hairstyle and the way she dresses nothing mean her personality and way of thinking changed too. people you should actually wake up. she never changed. she's still this sweetheart with this perfect voice. with clothes or without
During her tour, when she took some time to sit down with her guitarist and sing "Jolene," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," and other songs of the like... that was my favorite part. So beautiful. I was heartbroken when she didn't sing this one because this is my favorite.
Don't have words for this singing I started crying in joy Lilac wine that node you sung so beautiful just amazing.
my favourite backyard session performance of hers. ❤️
