  • Thanks so much for this post. With such an overwhelming array of toys on the market these days it’s so helpful to see a really practical review for those who have bigger working breeds with a strong bite. Especially helpful to see what worked best for the puppy years and for adult dogs with different sized mouths. 👍 I definitely have some new toys to add to my list now I’ve seen this. Thanks again.

  • Is there a dog anywhere that doesn't love the orange chuck-it balls? Those are the best!

  • Love watching ❤ Im a German Shepherd mom of 4 females and a male. I have a female, Freya, who "identifies" as a Mal.😅😅😅 I swear I have gone through 100s of balls. She is NOT allowed to have a chuckit ball. Balls are never left out, always get put away. She just bites them hard and splits them. She isn't a big girl, she's surprisingly. ... a showline, 😮and her max weight in her prime was maybe 60 lbs of solid muscle. All of my dogs are either imported or whelped from imports. I tried the bigger chuckit, but it didn't matter. Within a few days, a week at the most, the seam is popped open. Although the orange pool floaty was a great hit!!! We had one that had a canvas on it. It was in a triangle shape, and I feel like Chuckit made it. She loved it!!!! It was her reward toy. I trained her in detection and for AKC Scent. It was something she really loved. After about a year, I needed to replace it but couldn't find one in orange. She started having problems seeing the blue one on grass. She is getting old. She will be 10 in a few weeks. Years ago, i bought the dogs a bowling ball sized solid hard plastic Jolly Ball. Freya and a younger female i was training, Abbey, discovered soccer and would play with my husband. They would use their paws to bat a soccer ball around, but Abbey was young and kept trying to bite and eventually popped the soccer ball. After seeing the hard jolly ball used for big cats and bears (larger versions), i decided it might work better. They were light so they wouldn't get hurt, larger than their mouths could open and very slick, hard rigid plastic, so i didn't think they could possibly get their mouths on it. Boy, was i wrong. After a week of my husband teaching them how to play, watching the girls play together with the ball while i did chores, i figured it was a safe ball. Probably for most dogs. They have very limited time where im not with them inside or out and they live inside. I was washing door dog stuff and saw a nickle sized hole, a bunch of teeth gouges and punctures. 😮 that dog. I don't know how long you have had Mals. I have been training dogs since the mid-70s and had gsd's for 30+ yrs. Freya still doesn't have an off switch. She is amazing in her intelligence and icant wait to try some of the things ive seen on here but she still has the energy of a 4-5 yr old but her body is not thrilled i have to be her off switch. I am going to check out some of these toys. We just ordered some new balls last week for the other dogs. My male Justin (5)is from Poland and is a UKC Conformation champion. I have a female, Ursa, from Slavokia. She is a bi colored working line, and then Freya and Abbey(4), as well as Acacia(11), are all German. Abbey is a certified medical alert dog and will be leaving soon to be with a new owner. Im going to go through your videos if i can't find what im looking for, i will ask. This is getting LONG but i would like your opinion on something health related. Thanks for the great vids and the toy info its very helpful!!!!!❤

  • Re: ropes: many times individual strands would get between my dogs’ teeth and cut into the gums. I no longer use rope toys. I now buy KONG brand; expensive but worth it. FTR, I’ve had all sorts of dogs, never a Mal.
