  • Nice job only one minor criticism. Bulkhead light is in wrong place. In the event of a power failure light will come on great but when you lift the flap on the CU it will block the light so you cant see which breaker has tripped and it will also be blinding whoever is looking. Better to have the light above or behind you if possible,

  • Nice work, nearly there, but you should add the icing on the cake, use cable numbers to all, preferably the heat shrink type, inc All Tails. This was common practice together with a Plan Drawing of the installation pinned to the wall whilst working on Rail Track, it sort of sorts the men out from the boys. I think also that the massive openings to the rear of the CU would be and should be treated as a FIRE RISK and filled with FP Putty [not filler or cement] I would also observe that the Pvc outer sheaths of all the cables should be within the enclosure by at least 10mm, again to reduce the spread of Fire. • Clear fuse board cover, 100% agree should be available!! When I do my fuse boards, I’d like to think I’ve done it justice, neat, tidy and photogenic! Like to leave my fuse boards in such a way that when the next Sparky comes along they know everything is in order and is impressed or makes them think twice about how their board can be done better.

  • On the subject of neat wiring installation, I was repairing a machine at a brickworks some years back. The whole place had a new centralised switch room, 20 or so 6’ panels all with transparent fronts, all the Contactors, fuses relays, timers etc fully visible and wired in the red, yellow, blue 3 phase wiring. Many Scada / data wiring in blue or purple. Looked like a piece of artwork, it was very impressive. Klockner Moeller switchgear throughout....

  • Nice neat job there nick. I especially like your back board all holes cut neat. I always do the same and cut my holes slightly smaller than the holes in the DB (saves on grommet strips. I do normally put a fire strip in just to cover my holes when back entry tho to be honest it does not need it as the DB is made of non combustible material I actually looked hard at the internal pic of this board just to see if I could find something that I would not do or could pick at. But to be fair it's a perfect install right down to the tails not having the outer sheath stripped back before they are connected to the isolator (I hate that but many sparks do it) . I have being doing this for 30 plus years and like all sparks it's normally easy to find something to pick at, but I could not find one fault great job 10/10

  • The concept absolutely makes sense. However, the location of the EMG light would have been best suited on the ceiling directing the light where it needs to be and not in your face blocking the top knockouts and taking up precious real estate on the back board.

I reckon it would be easier to dress the conductors , as the aico alarms dont leave shag all space to sweep wires neatly.

I do agree with a em light next to the board but it needs to be fitted in a more convenient position. Ps I found this out when I fitted my db and realised the mistakes listed above.

  • I think, given the nature of the work, (i.e. DB changes are very rare occurrences in the life of an installation and constitute major works when compared to, say, moving a socket outlet), fire-resistant MDF or a similarly rated sheet material rather than plain ply should've been used to mount the new DB etc. The fact that the timber you removed wasn't fire resistant is not a particularly strong defence, post-incident. In other words, it was reasonably practicable to use fire resistant materials in the circumstances. Also, as others have pointed out in the comments, you really don't want the emergency light in your face. It's a tiny room so it's next to impossible to locate the emergency fitting in a position where you would not potentially end up working in your own light but definitely _not_ above the DB!
