This is the new Dacia Duster!
Dacia is renowned for making relatively cheap yet good value-for-money cars, and Mat’s about to see if the Duster is the right choice over some of its more expensive competitors!
For starters, the new Duster has a number of upgrades compared to the previous model. On the outside, there are a few design updates including a new grille and new tail light designs. What’s more, all Dusters now come equipped with LED headlights!
On the inside, you’ll also find an 8” infotainment screen in all but the entry-level models. There are a number of other design tweaks, along with some optional extras including heated seats!
When it comes to engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel models to choose from, with the range-topper being a 1.3-litre turbo petrol that can produce 150hp. If you choose this spec you can get the Duster with an automatic gearbox, while any other choice is equipped with a manual only.
The Duster starts from only £15,000, but is it the smart choice?! You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

  • I work at Dacia factory and so does my wife and my father. My mother and grandfather worked there as well (he helped building the factory in the 60s). I grew up in Mioveni and I still live there. I never had any other car besides Dacia. Me and my family had Dacia 1310, 1410, SuperNova, Solenza, Logan, MCV, Sandero and now Duster. I can tell you that Renault saved the factory back in 99 when they came to Mioveni and they did an astonishing thing with the brand. I'm so happy Dacia lives on and has gotten to this level of fame and appreciation

    • It's really a shame that Dacia doesn't serve in North America. There are way too many cars here that are too complex and overpriced. Lower class North Americans are desperate for cars like Dacias. As a 16 year old, I'd love to buy a Dacia Sandero as my first car.

The space inside and especially the boot size beats most other cars. If you have kids it would also be perfect for car seats in back, great height to lift kids in and out with loads of room for buggies, baby bags, toys etc etc etc. This is a great car. • Nearing two years of ownership of a comfort trim 2020 Duster with the 100hp 1.0 three cylinder. Super satisfied with it. I've travelled Europe a lot, use the back for sleeping. 25k kilometres now. Last trip was Slovakia -> Croatia and back, around 1400km, and I averadged 5l/100km. Got no 4x4, but when it's dry I don't shy away from the woods and every week I visit our family vineyard which has driving over terrain to get to it. Very good cars. Recommend. My father just got the Sandero Stepway two months ago, also with the 1.0, lovely ride too.

Everyone predicted they'll depreciate like hell in few years and will disappear off the face of the earth. The best car I've ever had. Period. Value for money and then some. • I’ve had mine 2 weeks and driven 1000 miles through France in it. I can safely say that all the 5 ‘issues’ mentioned are irrelevant. It’s a fantastic car for the money, there is no excessive road noise, the cruise was fine on the French roads and the blind spot sensors are super helpful. 4 adults with luggage and a baby seat in the middle. No issues with comfort or room. I think the clowning around distracts from the review and makes people lose interest. It’s a great car and I’m happy about saving 10 grand over the price of the Civic I had before. It was a very wise move.

    • Many cars have a remote opening fuel lid, and have had them for many years, I cannot see why that is even an issue, and as far as the soft suspension goes we are back to slagging of the very thing that gives the vehicle any off road prowess without any explanation, the two wheel drive has firmer suspension as it does not need to keep all its wheels in ground contact to maintain traction due to the fact that it wouldn't be in that situation, due to pushing the extra metal the 4x4 version doesn't quite get the same to the gallon as my conventional one, the only real criticism I have is the rather light tow weight, my old Discovery was three and a half tons, but at thirty three to the gallon as opposed to fifty eight point seven (my best yet), you can't have everything. When you next criticize a four wheel drive for soft suspension could you please qualify why it has it or can we see Ferrari's criticized for lack of ground clearance when off road, fair is fair.

Good long term prospects too and reliable and sturdy. Comfy as well, including a longer cruise. Comparisons have to be 'apples/apples', not 'apples/oranges.' Job done. Well done Renault.

Yes it will be noisy when accelerating but all diesels are. I think they're cracking value for money and a good buy.

OK, performance is not lightening fast but it's not a Ferrari and is very much more than adequate, as is it's road holding - the extra ground clearance soaks up most potholes like they were never there but I have found it to be more than able in country lanes and twisting corners, and can easily keep up with whatever is in front of it. I prefer not to think of it as a cheap car (as it is very well kitted out), but more that other cars are too expensive!

I can guarantee you that the Duster would be a hit due to its affordability and the fact that it’s an SUV. But of course, their models will have to pass regulations so that may be a reason why they can’t sell here.

  • I bought the Duster Extreme Special edition. I think it's great, I love an underdog. The heated seats have 1 setting and come on and off. The little cipholder I use for a California scents air freshener. The other 2 aren't an issue except the back one with the arm rest can end up covering it up. The side seel definitely does touch the back of your legs. I've driven the car in snow and it did very well, better than the other people I was around. Its not fast at all but it doesn't feel as slow as it is. What I like that Matt doesn't go into is there's a good amount of storage under the seats, so under the passenger seat I've got a bunch of things. The headrests are very hard which is about the only bad thing I can say. It's got lots of cheap plastics but it's cheap and it keeps the car from being a full on family car and keeps a bit of a rugged off road feel which is what I like most about this car, it doesn't feel like it's just a useless over sized hatchback, it feels like it's got serious purpose
