    • An opening in chess is only brought about by the response of the other persons moves. Starting off with white and doing those moves just for the sake of moving into that position makes no sense. First white makes a move then Black and so on, each moving in turn to the response of the last move. Improvements are found over time to the persons last move and so on. What is considered the opening in chess? The opening in chess refers to the first several moves of the game. "Book" chess openings refer to common sequences of moves that have been studied and are generally well-known by professionals. Many such lines are well documented in authoritative references like The encyclopedia of Chess Openings (ECO) and others You cannot just make up an opening just for the sake of it and call it what you like. It has to be played at top level chess in general and played for a reason, i.e a sequences of moves. The sequence of moves are played for a reason and again not just for the sake of it and calling it what you like. Hell if that were the case all of the people playing chess could make up a name and call it what they like.... It has to make sense.. I think my sweet you might have mad cows disease. RANT OVER.

Not the exact moves but the general layout of the position that might occur. It a long way up that hill for sure. And having so enthusiastic people like Anna helps a lot.

  • I understand the principal reason your mother is not a big fan of the cow opening: your knights each take two moves to plant themselves on squares near the edge of the board where they lose the option of moving to two squares each. However I do like unexpected openings like this that can draw your opponent forward and create space behind their over-advanced line of pawns. Well done Anna! Now go win with it.

    • It's biggest flaw though is its difficult to attack from because u surrender a lot of space in the middle

      @justincase1276@justincase1276 Жыл бұрын
    • Its not the tempos, or I should say its not just the tempos lost. Its also the fact that the squars are objectivly worse and you lose control over two centre squares. It might work on lower level because we dont know how to take advantage of the weakness , but on higher lvl... Already at Annas streangth they are so skilled that they will have an advantage from it. You are 4 moves into the game an have -0.3 with nothing to show for it. You are objectivly just worse of. The only thing that you got going for you is that you have no obvious weaknesses. But that can be said about your oponent as well, who in fact has better pieces and control over the centre.

      @perkalov@perkalov11 ай бұрын
    • @@justincase1276 That is however true for a lot of "accepted" openings as well. Dutch Stonewall, Hedgehog etc. You will, possibly, be able to attack but in the middle game.

      @perkalov@perkalov11 ай бұрын
    • @@perkalov absolutely, there is a king and queen side pawn push feeing both bishops that helps. U then castle on the opposite side to that pawn advancement. Usually I castle king side and weaken the queen side as my main point of counter to the weaknesses the opening creates.

      @justincase1276@justincase127611 ай бұрын
    • @@justincase1276 You made that account just in case your original one was banned? Anyway :p Im not saying that it loses by default. Im stating that its simply a bad opening. Just as Pia implies.... There is a reason to why it wasn't invented before. The only advantage I can see, from a low rated players perspective is that it is solid. You have few weaknesses that can be easily exploited. This is true for better openings, like Kings Indian Defence/Attack. Most low rated players dont like to play solid(read boring) chess, but thats an other issue. The Cow is a meme opening and Anna knows it, so should anyone else. Teaching or luring beginners to disregard basic opening theory isn't really helping them. No "hate" on Anna. I don't think she really wants newbies to use it, but a huge part of us watching is far from as strong as she is.
