I absolutely love these z4 videos they just give me that feeling to jump in and take mine for a spin . The feel of them inside them is like no other. I have gtr and m4 but some days I just fancy that classic feeling that you get in these.
Place the key into the drivers door and turn to the left, hold it there and the roof comes down. Do the same to the right and it goes up.
so cool jack!! thanks
With regards to the memory seat, the reason it is manual when the ignition is on is for safety. If you are driving down the road and press a button by accident you might find yourself moving the seat to your wife’s position and getting squished against the steering wheel. When the ignition is off, BMW couldn’t care less if you get squished or not. 😂👍 another good vid mate, keep up the good work.
Alex Senior I genuinely almost squished myself off camera in between shots when I was filming this playing with that seat! 😂
It's Joel haha. Gotta be careful mate. Next time get it on film!!! ;)
Yep, I was about to say the same. I think there have been cases in the US, of crashes (in other cars?) due to people hitting a memory button going along and not being able to steer!
On your keyfob if you hit the unlock button once and then hold it down again, the convertible top and windows will all go down together. We have a 2008 BMW Z4 also.
Yes! Your Z4 will do the same with the key in the door lock. Hold the key in the lock position and it will close the soft top and roll up the windows for you. Same goes for unlocking and opening the soft top.
Is this on all models even the pre face lift ones?@@lendmeyourear3546
You forgot the 'Guide me home lights' I think they are called. If you pull back on the headlight stalk with the ignition off the lights stay on for like 2/3 mins to help you see in the dark
Cool. I did not know that!
The memory seat position can be coded into your key as well as 3 more positions for 3 more people each with their personal key, so when you unlock the the car with your keyfob the seat moves into your personal position. I know this as it's in the car's manual, which also mentions the location of the first aid kit under the passenger seat...
Going into the video "I'll be surprised if I don't know it" After "I just learnt 5 things..."
That’s what I like to hear!
Hey Joel, the last thing with memory function of the seat is a safety feature (just imagine randomly pressing it while driving and the seat moving backwards so you can not reach pedals...) Would not be nice :D
adam šišpera never thought of this!
Don't know about pre face-lift but mines works with one press at key position 1. Great for getting to driving position and Bluetooth to connect while I get comfy and belt on.
Hi Joel with regards to the medical kit storage you also have the rails underneath the driver's seat so you can either switch it over or buy another and have one under both seats so more storage 👍
Just purchased a Zed, and will have a look to see if the first aid is still there in the morning, exciting times 🤣🤣
Haha same here going to look at a 2005 model tomorrow.
nice--just got mine so everything is new (except me 80 years old) this is much better than trying to find info in owners manual
Joel did you know what Z4 stands for by BMW. It's "zukunft" meaning "future" ... I had owned it for almost a year before I found out....
I also heard the zed comes from seeing a "Z" on driver side door and fender. Take a look. See the zed??
@@DeanG55 havd you even watched Joels video?
Got my Alpina 4 years ago...didn't know any of the 5 things ! Thanks 😀
I didn’t even know I had one! That’s how little I knew about my Z4! Enjoyed the video mate!
CarsWithWillo haha, maybe it’s a sign.... thanks fro watching buddy, hope you’re well.
The traction control is explained in the manual. One press is meant to help in snow. Its common in most bmw of that era.
I had owned my Z4 about 2 months when I found the medical kit under the seat. Fascinating little storage compartment. Not sure my care has the rack for the wind break and I have an after market wind break anyway
Here is one I found out a bit after owning: The Z4 has a "sound generator" pipe from the intake into the cabin that allows your beautiful sounding 6 banger to be more loud. The pipe comes with plugs to muffle the sound unless they are removed. Removing the plugs makes your engine noise more pronounced in the cabin. I never new about the medical kit compartment! I am curious to find out if my American version has it. Update: booo! mine does not have it. I guess it is a European thing.
American, mine also doesn't have it. :( could have been my glove compartment replacement
Just bout a Zed today, will definitely sub and watch more of your videos. Any other tips for a first time owner? Lol thanks 🙏
Recently purchased 2003 Z4 convertible with 45,500 original miles. Runs like a swiss watch, but needed two cup holders, new radio, tires, replaced all speakers, will be recovering the seats/door panels and installing a new lighted WindResistor. A fun ride indeed and a great car for SW Florida weather. Love the videos, watched them all.
Awesome! Enjoy the car Bruce and thank you for watching
I never knew about the off function for the traction control I always thought it was off when the dtc symbol wasn’t showing. Now I’m hyped to try it
Joel: I'll sell my BMW Z4 when it gets to 130 000miles also Joel: gets a cup holder + 100 000 miles
What I like most is every time you say “needless to say” and then you go ahead and say it anyway lol why do you keep saying that if it is needless to say ?? 😂
If you open your driver door with the key. And hold the key in the open position.. The windows will lover a bit and the roof will open while you are just holding the key. You can reverse this by locking the door and keeping it in the locking position for a bit. I think that is pretty cool😎
Such a cool video Joel I certainly didn't know about the med kit in the passenger seat or the design of the Z in the body itself it's very clever. Unfortunately I can't drive mine at the moment as it needs a new cylinder head cover because the ccv system has gone down and in tern created a misfire on cylinder 4. The garage can't look at it until the 10th Feb and I so miss my Z4.
Just bought my z4 and I’m so glad I ran into your channel! Got so much to do 😅
Awesome !
Joel, I have the 2006 Z4 3.0si roadster. It is left side drive here in CA. I do not have the medical supply compartment you show. My wind deflector is made of thick acrylic and does not appear to be removable. There is no mounting brackets inside top of boot for storage if it is removable. I do have the seat memory buttons and traction control adjustments you show. All around very good video. Keep them coming! Too bad about all that rain!!
I found the first aid kit when I was cleaning ours inside a few months ago. I Was surprised. Didn’t know it had one either until then
Love this channel, get so many ideas. Just bought a 2004 z4 2.2 and it’s so much fun. 🙌🏻❤️
Sallys Edit glad you’re enjoying videos
Your Videos are so informative! just subscribed.
What!!! Bought my Z4 2003 brand new for pleasure till now didn't know about the compartment!
I recently took possession of a 2003 z4 at 124000 on the odo. Thanks for this video and what brand of jacket and hoodie are you wearing. I like to buy em.
Thanks for clearing up the memory seat thing Joel, I had been suspicious something had changed but never realised it was related to the ignition switch. I was aware of the medi kit storage compartment, just never noticed the seemingly pointless green cross on it before. Unless you have your head in the foot well facing backwards, you’d never see it. The airbag warning light could be one of many things. On mine it was the drivers seat belt pretensioner. It’s an MOT failure irrespective of the cause, so give yourself plenty time to sort it before your MOT. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Alan - yeah it seems from reading other comments, the memory thing is a safety function to stop the drive inadvertently hitting a button and the seat moving unexpectedly and causing an accident etc... And yes, I had no idea there was a green cross until I put a camera down there!
@@itsjoel Yeah, that makes perfect sense now I think about it. I'm in the process of getting my Z4 back on the road after its been in hibernation for the past 2 months, (never had a car go mouldy before, what's that about???) and really looking forward a blast in the crisp spring morning air soon. Keep up the good work!
Not sure if other ones do this but if you have fog lights like mine does and you turn them on, off then back on they switch from white to yellow. I guess yellow fog lights are supposed to make it easier to see in fog. Oh and if you replace the light bulb on the side under the badge with an led, it will turn on when unlocking and after the car is turned off it will stay on for a couple of minutes.
Awesome info Joel! Keep on posting please ! Are you able to demeonstarte how the BMW cover is used? Specifically the small square enclosure bag. I don’t see that its placed in the trunk when the cover is on and the two black straps are just placed over the rear trunk wall. I never saw the car with the cover in place…so, I’d like to use it correctly. Thanks👍🏻
Hi Joel Have been watching your vids and didn't realize I had the first aid compartment I also didn't realize about the DTC button .I have installed Hood module to open and close from outside car .
Can you please share some information on the hood module? I would be interested to get and install one. Thx
watched you drive your dads z4 and it convinced me to buy a z4! thanks.. I bought a Z4 3.0i 2003 last night, the auto and trip tronic box in excellent condition! thanks for helping me decide lol
MadDog Customs pleasure
just bought a z4 at auction, its not arrived yet but finding these videos useful, Subscribed :D
Great, glad you’re finding the videos useful. Let us know how you get on with your new purchase!
Great video I would like a z3 but this z4 is so nice
I've had my Z4 for two years and I only knew one of them, thanks Joel 👍
Thank you for watching, that’s great!
Hey Joel, have you ever given it some thought to upgrading to a 2007 or latter Z4 M Roadster? I'm in the mind of doing so since I found 2007 with 31k in miles.
Great video! Wonderful that you've given us so many Z4 content. I didn't know about the 2-stage DSC. I drive a Z4M roadster and it just went straight to the circle and the A symbol. Was surprised when you showed it. Hope there's nothing wrong with my car. lol
Yes the Z4M is different and I believe it is either on or off, no DTC!
Late to the party- not only is the "Z" line imprinted on the Z4- so is the "4". When you see it- you'll smile. I did.
Thing 3: Perfect for Zorro!
Cheers Joel, didn't know about the memory seat button! I can see the Z, the 4 is a little harder to spot though love the videos - always nicely put together
Question yeah, I didn’t know about the 4. Gonna have a look for it today! And thank you
Good video- cool little design items. I do all my filming on weekends as well (full time job)- I understand. Editing is the worst for me. Nice work!
Thank you for making these videos
I'm thinking the intermittent seat adjustment is for finding a comfortable driving position initially. Once established, then the seat can be moved by a single push without holding.
The Producer of this medical Kit is literally 10 Kilometers located from My Home 😂😂😂
Hi Joel, if you hold down the "unlock" button on the key, the convertible will open before you get in the car - not a good idea in the rain! Also, if your convertible ever gets stuck in the open position, there is a small allen key in the tool box which can close the convertible manually from the central compartment in the middle right above the mirror if you pull the plastic piece away. Keep Z4ing!
With the electric seat, it’s so that if you accidentally press the a memory button set for your shorter spouse while driving, you don’t get pushed into the steering wheel and cause an accident
Abdul Hussain I didn’t think of this, makes total sense! Thank you for sharing
Another hidden feature: the stalk on the left of the steering column, if you move it up or down it makes the orange lights flash on the corners of the car. Found that by mistake - pretty cool feature. ...jokes 🤪
Having to use mine daily for the last 2 months while my other car is being repaired!! Found lots of little niggles I would like to get sorted as never noticed before as only used on dry days during the summer? Boot brake light cracked again🤬 also have the air bag light issues seems common and have no heater blower and other related items as car is in 'transport mode'and also a whine from the rear but apart from the niggles running sweet as probably done 4000 miles in the last 2 months which is about the same as the last 4 years I've owned it
That driving in the beginning! Wow!
Effortless in this kind of weather!
Well done thanks. Knowledgable tips and I didn't know.. How does one drain the motor for the convertible which raises and lowers?
I’m buying a Z4 today! Thanks for the info.
Excellent video, please do more videos like this. Thanks
Did not know about the windscreen storage..thanks Joel. I’m sure most know there is a basic tool kit in the boot near the battery box..but most times most of the tools have been removed and not replaced. Oh didn’t know about the the ‘Zed’ outline..very cool.
Ron Luckenbach thanks Ron, glad you discovered something new!
Hi Joel.. Do you or any of your contacts know a fix for the sticky steering problem on the Z4. BMW want +2K to replace this known problem. There are a number of ideas on forums but nothing concrete. Any help would be great...
You might already know, but the seats are also tied to the key. I have 2 keys, one for me and one for the missus. If I unlock with my key the seat will move to my position, likewise if she uses hers to unlock it will move to her position.
wow never knew about the wend deflector and the Z thanks :)
Seems like a safety thing with the seat. If you were driving and dropped something down by the seat, you might accidently hit a button and have the seat move to the next position while on the road. If your parked up it not a major if the seat moves.
Hello from New Jersey Joel. I subscribed and really like your content. I just about a 2003 Z4 with only 33,000 miles! I have the memory function and it works exactly like yours.
mac daddy wow, super low mileage! Thanks for watching sir
What year and model is your Zed? I have a 2006 E85, left hand drive. The first 4 things I did not know don't exist on my Z4!!
Good vid joel. Even as an mx5 driver ive subscribed 😀
Not all heroes wear capes
it's funny. today i was looking at those plastic clips for the wind deflectors wondering what the were for
Love the vids. Was one of the 85 % now 15 😉 any suggestions for spare keys ? Trying to avoid having to go to the dealership
Thank you sir! Not too sure to be honest, perhaps worth a search to see if any third party companies will do it
@@itsjoel cool. Have you a cup holder in there ? I recently picked one up on amazon which lools like it was made for the z4, i'd highly reccomend
I'm wondering how many of these pertain to the Euro spec only
Hey Joel. Your episode on 1/29/20 is one of my favorites you've done. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Richard, people seem to really enjoy this one, will have to do more!
.... always learn something new from you !!! Thanks Joel !!!
Thanks for always watching sir!
Hey. I cant get the brake sensor to reset. Does it reset automatically? Hmm...do I have to determine if the new sensor is bad?
Have you ever had smoke on startup after the car is warm? I’ve heard that it is running lean and replace the spark plugs. I have done so and still a little smoke after restarting the car after it’s warm. Any ideas folks?
I love my Z4 but had to lol when you spoke of the "Zed" design, I thought "it would be better if I had good cup holders
The seats don’t auto move when you have the ignition on because if something fell out of your pocket and hit a position where you’re in an uncomfortable/unsafe position.. it’s basically a safety feature. :)
There is a way to pgm the seat when put the key into the ignition the key fob will tell the seat in moveing to your 1st position.
Subbed off the back of this video. 👌🏾
Never knew the wind deflector thing! I mean I won't ever use it, but good to know
Haha yes same hear. Good to know but will never use
Hi Joel, how do you reset the tripometer on a 2012 Z4
Didn't know about the wind deflector dock... Thanks Joel 👍
Nice one glad you learned something
"just hold number two and it will be much easier to get out" ;-)
Hi Joel, one addition to your video reg. DSC button - so DTC/DSC does come up when You press, or press and hold the button. However for SMG owners as myself, there is an additional feature called 'Acceleration assistant with SMG'. Basically selecting Sport mode, pressing the DSC button for 3 straight seconds, and then flooring the accelerator quickly (kick-down) will engage something launch controll-like behaviour... at least based on the user manual :) I've also just found it, having some smg issues and searching for information, but unfortunately for the E85 there are no videos on KZhead to check if that's true. Will be good to get the car back and try it out - however if You have any friends with the SMG E85, it would worth to have a video on it ;)
Jus got my last week at age 17 3.0
Hey. Joel where can I get a latch for the z4 storage door?
Okay SUBCRIBED :) good luck mate!
The first aid kit was an option. Most Z4s I've seen don't have it.
Joel re memory function it’s like that from factory. This is so when your driving you don’t press for instance a small persons setting and get compressed into the wheel whilst driving and have an accident. That’s why it allows for small adjustments only when engines running; and memory settings when engines off. Hope this help you to understand why.
Makes total sense, thanks Emily
All good luv the vids I have a silver z4 2005 2.5. Luv it
Nice Z4 vídeos 👍
And I thought that i knew everything about mine. Thx dude.
Thanks for watching, glad you found it interesting
Ive subscribed! How do you programme the seats though. I like the cleaning seats position idea.
Thank you for subscribing! Put the seat where you want it for the specific preset you’re choosing, press the red M button so that it lights up and then hit the preset button
@@itsjoel thank you very much sir!
I’m not sure if you’ve already done a video covering “what to look out for when buying a Z4” as I’ll be buying one in the next couple of months and would like some basic knowledge of what to look for specific to Z4 rather than all the general stuff when buying any car. Also is there any obvious visual difference between the SI and normal? Ideally I want the 3.0 SI (265?) and the normal 3.0 is 230bhp? I know the coupe is 265 but it’s also double the price of the roadster haha
There’s a few visual differences, headlights and rear lights are updated but not much else. Have done a few videos on this topic - check out my Z4 playlist to find them. Cheers for watching luke
Joel, I'm Dutch, so like you not much sunny weather. Should I buy a roadster or coupe? Is it really a mens car? I don't know.
Just bought a Z4 as a fun car and love it but what I really need to know is where did you get the cup holder from??
I found a replacement on Amazon. I think car ID has them too.
A lot of people do not know that the Z3 and Z4 were made in Greer, SC, not Germany.
Need to do comparison with a 2.5si and 3.0si z4
Hi Joel, have you heard of z4’s having ski hatches?
My check airbag light on my zed 4 has been on forever 😂
hi yes we knew about the first aide kit we have BMW series 3, and a series 1:, and next week z4 ,
Had a z 3litre for 14 years , never missed a beat
About the seat that's safe when the car Is on n driving
Memory seat needs to be held down while car is on, so that it doesn’t accidentally get pressed and starts moving to extreme memorized position while driving. One touch activation while car is off so you don’t have to hold the whole time, waiting to get in.
the headlights can be converted to continental by clicking a switch near the bulbs, gotta take a wheelarch panel off to access
Nigel Carpenter good tip!
