    • Right? I don’t get why people gravitate towards the X2s for metal so much. I’m selling my X2s, I find them fairly terrible for metal. So screechy. I’ve been using my HD560S instead and they’re so much better to me, gives music real weight, rather than just booming bass

I want headphones that will not only sound great but last. Your presentation, content and balance was well done. Subscribed.

  • The look of the X3 is so much more my style. The fact that the sound has flattened out a little bit and become a more balanced headphone makes me think that it would make total sense to have the X2HR and X3 as complementary headphones if the sound signatures are distinct enough.

    • Done just that. Got X2HR for 100 EUR and X3 for 80 EUR, a steal! In my opinion X3 are to X2, what HD600 are to HD650. If Philips called the X3, something different, people would accepted that. I think they got bad rep for naming and pricing . For 40% of the price of HD600 the X3 are a steal, if people didn't look at them as X2 replacment, but different product you start to see them in new light. Lot of people on HiFi forums replacing their HD600 with X3, as their sound are so simlar and now with discounts price is very good and there are only subtle differences in sound. Personally didn't hear HD600 or HD650 yet, but I used HD598 for last 8 years and X3 and X2 are way more clear, detailed and got tigther bass. 598s bass just bloats over mids too much, but you can listen to 598 at higher voluemes where as X2 and X3 brightnes comes in play and they start to hear the hzzz noise. But I am really sensitive to high treble, down the line will be trying out HD650 and HD600 to compare for myself,

Im really happy with them as Philips have them tuned exactly for my "taste". It is nice and warm sound signature. Also if you will think about price today, this is a deal breaker.

  • I wish the reviewer would have said more about the treble region of the X3's. I owned a pair of X2HR's and loved their PRaT and how good they sounded and would have happily lived with them as my daily drivers, but there was too much energy in the treble region so I got rid of them. I think it would have been helpful if the reviewer had gone into detail about the differences (or lack thereof) in treble between the X2's and the X3's.

  • Never liked the SHP sound signature. X2HRs are fantastic and are my "easy listening" phones - they're easy to drive, have plenty of bass and lots of detail as well as the widest soundstage of any pair I've ever had (sometimes unnaturally so). But favorite pair is never talked about any more though I've still not found anything I like better, price notwithstanding.... the AKG K712 Pro (which happens to perfectly compliment the X2HR for me).
