What does the future hold. This is a question that is asked daily by millions of people. But this is not a question that can be contained to the present. We as historians have amazing powers of hindsight to look at the past with. This is great for understanding the past, but it also means that we are limited in the realistic stories we can construct from the past. So in this series I will be making alternate histories from the perspective of people from the past. I will base my analysis on just the situation in the year and place I choose, ignoring any event that cannot be reasonable predicted from that starting year and location.
In this first video we will be looking at what the future of Europe may have looked like from the perspective of France in 1453. How would I predict an alternate history of Europe, and specifically France, would have looked without referencing any information from later than 1453.

Will you do a possible future if Union of Sovereign States survived instead of Commonwealth of Independent States after fall of Soviet Union?
@@ALMAZ157 better Idea. What if the Polish Lithuanian commonwealth and the Novgorod Republic. United or atleast formed a alliance to save their demacratic states from muscovite dominance.
What if julius Caesar conquered Germania and Gaul before his assassination?
Can you do Russia in 1950 next?
Do more of this, it’s a great series. Do more medieval videos as well
This reinforces me in my personal historiography : History as a whole is a pile of stubborn inconsistent twists to keep the world from being French.

I would love to see what the pre-Columbian civilizations of the Americas would think of their future in 1492.
This is a really interesting method to design an alternate history scenario! I would love to see more videos in this vein. Maybe predict the future of the Americas from the perspective of Moctezuma before the arrival of Cortez?
This kind of alt hist for a specific time is an interesting concept. Looking forward to more.
Great video, great Channel. Love your content. For your Q&A what mapmaking tool do you use ? Are you a History student? Also will you ever make another "what if X historical character had a superpower?" That was fun. Also could you do a What if France became protestant and England stayed catholic please? Switch their Destiny and see what happens from there.
What an interesting concept! Maybe I should brainstorm a few. But since I am currently studying the region, I must ask: What happens to Eastern Europe (mainly Russia) in your scenario?
I found it very difficult to think of anything definitively for that region. Especially Russia, from the perspective of the French, was still just a peripheral backwater in 1453. The Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth would mostly likely be seen as a natural ally to the French, since their ambitions barely overlap and they share potential enemies in the Habsburg and later the Ottomans.
The concept is really cool, you can apply it to almost every time and place. I need more.
Love this! Very innovative
keep up the good work! And cool concept.
really fun video concept! good execution too, of course
Hey so first off I wanna say that this video is amazing as your other ones and this idea is extremely interesting and original. I am happy that my wish and predicament became true, that your channel will begin to quickly grow and become popular, I really hope you will end the next year with atleast ten times more subscribers than now aka, 50k subscribers. Second I have a few questions which I hope you can answer. What do you use to make your videos? They look really good, especially for a channel with your size and I want to make a few alternate histories when I make my channel in a few months. Second what led you to making alternate history videos and when did you start liking and learning a lot about history? Third what is your credit card number and where do you live?
this is a really interesting concept that I'd love to see in the future. So many sudden deaths changed how history played out, just before this scenario, what would have England thought about the future just after Henry V pretty much won the 100 Years War with England set to inherit France after the French King's death? Who would have thought that Henry VI would have been so incompetent, and England would lose France almost overnight leading to the Wars of the Roses, the Tudor Dynasty and union with Scotland?
Technically "England" wouldn't have inherited France, it would have just been a personal union, the same king. It's even probable the Plantagenets would have relocated in Paris. From the start, the chain of events that led to this situation (agincourt + the duke of burgundy brutally assassinated for little reason + a mad king that willingly disinherits his son) was kind of unbelievable. So even if there was reasons to be optimistic at that point, they knew they were still in a precarious situation in France.
Awesome!! You should make an hour long video of this
This is a very interesting scenario. I'd like to see more of these

a timeline where Poland didnt choose PU with Lithuania but HRE instead?
One can imagine that the people of that world in the 14th century played ck3, and Spain and other colonial players played eu4.
Just a correction: The existence of Vinland(aka viking former holdings in America and Greenland) would have been known for a time in Scandinavia, of course likely forgotten by this time period and certainly not known by your average french person, but it does mean the Americas would likely exist if we go by "knowledge available" even if going by the predictions it would never have been discovered at this time period
You ignored possible Polish-Lithuanian influence in the Eastern HRE. What's to stop them becoming Emperor?

New video ideal: What if the Bourbon and Habsburg realms decided to make a personal union via marriage. (A good scenario would be the case of Louis XVII as he was a child of both Houses). Not a very realistic alternative timeline but still there could be possible without too ridiculous. (In the case of Louis XVII, the marriage happened in the real world and just need more push to become a real union. Both France and Austria at that time had a strange warm relations with each other and both did need each other for their own safety). Also, Spain was (and still is) having a Bourbon king while most of Italy today were under countrol of either Bourbon or Habsburg so maybe some "extra" states could joint the union in the future.
1025 Byzantium/Rome would be cool.
Now that is called a French Empire with the French King becoming the French Emperor. Still, this time it is the Boborn becoming the new imperial dynasty of this new French Empire. So you're prediction of France being the leader who unifies all Catholics in Europe against the Muslims and the Sultanate, leading France to take the new mantle of the New Roman Empire, is a very accurate and exciting topic for an alternate history scenario with France's unification with the Holy Roman Empire. What is really weird is this France is now an empire with the french King who becomes the French Emperor, and with France and Germany united as a single country, would there be a French Revolution in this French Empire, causing this empire to collapse or would it become a constitutional monarchy similar of the monarchs from the United Kingdom. What do you think about this theory? Would this actual French Empire last long as a dominant force to be reckoned with in the modern century, or would it be divided because of political and religious issues similar to how the Hapsburgs ran the HRE? Anyway, this is a great video, Mr. Possible History. Really like the future predictions for the future of France, for it made me enjoy watching this video; keep up the fantastic work!
Small correction- it would be a Valois monarch for the time being, the Bourbons didn't claim the throne until Henri IV took the throne after the French Wars of Religion during the 16th century. With this scenario presuming a greatly weakened Reformation due to the centralized authority the HRE now runs under, the Bourbons never get the chance to make a bid for the throne, only staying as a minor noble family in Navarre. France would likely embrace the image of it being a universal monarchy (similar to how Charles V had the chance to claim the title during his reign). With France having complete dominance over western and central Europe, periphery powers like Spain, Poland and Britain would either be too weak to fight the French, or be allied with them (France and Poland have been very close throughout the early modern period, Henry III even sat on the Polish throne for a few years) As for a French revolution, its completely unpredictable. History has diverged so much that within 100 years of the divergence, its impossible to see what cause and effect everything has beyond that. Maybe France weakens over time, and within a few centuries the Empire crumbles back into vying duchies, setting political progress in Europe back by centuries (Imagine in 2023 there not being a France, Germany or Netherlands, but dozens of smaller states) On the other hand, maybe the empire survives and maintains its strength, and in the modern world, republicanism is quashed beneath absolutist monarchies, and enlightenment is repressed though religious indoctrination
With several institutions having to be integrated and respected with a unification of the HRE i doubt france would be as centralised or at least the empire itself wouldn't be as centralised as the France proper in our time became, thus there would be more ways for soceity to relieve pressures other than "fuckin' kill the king". perhabs France would become a constitutional monarchy aiming to restrict the crowns power in order to placate, represent and unify all the vassals within the empire. in such a scenario it's highly unlikely such the french revolution would happen as the pendulum would never be far enough to swing that extremely.
Make a Part 2 and incorporate Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Britain and the Italian peninsula by either union of the Crowns or outright conquest like Napoleon did.
This is actually relevant to my own scenario of a much less colonized America. I like this exorcise a lot
One can only dream.
What if Austria Egypte and Russia attacked the otomans when the Greek Revolution started
France: We will lead Europe, we will reunify the legacy of Charlemagne! Brittain with the first signs of capitalism and slowly growing wealth: Rule Britannia! I like the format in general. But 15th century leads up too much interpritation and possibilities, which cannot be looked at due to the lack of much information, which, as you mentioned in "Germany 1648" is bound to much more randomness. So, to begin such concepts, it would be better to adopt something from a more modern times, Like Americans in 1776 or British in 1836, with much more info and more reasonable ways to predict something, thanks to the politics shifting from the previously mentioned randomness into pragmatism and established continuity.

Spain might get to fight Portugal. Somewhat interesting. The Entente still wins, because Spain and Sweden aren't particularly strong. But the war might last longer.

Time for eu4
A new crusade should be much more successful with a unified strong state backed by the Pope. Especially if the new crusaders take Egypt first for the food to supply a standing army to support a Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Muslim threat to Europe would seem to be massively lessened. The ReChristianization of the lands lost to the Muslims would seem inevitable, and even further beyond to lands not largely converted to Christianity. Perhaps Arabia itself would convert by a mass wave of missionaries to the area.
