If he gets the Champions League this season or wins the Euros with France he will be the front runner for the Ballon D'or. But then again many all time greats haven't won the Ballon D'or even in the Ballon D'or era. Thierry Henry comes to mind. Also what actually is the criteria to live up to this supposed "hype"? All of them have won league titles (except Jude, who's the youngest and will do it soon) and most of them have won either the ucl, the euro or the world cup, except sterling and the younger ones. Sterling has played for the 3 english teams that won the ucl during his carreer, but...was always in the right team at the wrong time.

Honestly Götze has had a solid season at Frankfurt and if some stars align (Dortmund winning the CL and ending 5th) he could actually play Champions League next season. His goal contributions are pretty underwhelming to be fair, but he is still an integral part of the team. And as he is only 31 he still could have a couple good years ahead.

I don't agree with the framing of Götze and him being compared to Pogba. He had a real medical issue which contributed to his injury plight and in spite of this, still won massive trophies with Worldcup being the biggest and he still contributed in knocking Ajax off the top of Eredivisie and is still playing at the highest level. I don't think it's what more he could he achieve, he already achieved so much and been a talisman a lot of the times. That's all really. I think he doesn't get the props he deserves. He reminds me of Kaka who was injury prone but no one says he could have done more. Because what more could he have done. I would understand if you were talking about Affellay or Wilshere on achieving more what if scenarios but not Mario, the dude deserves props for his achievements despite serious injuries and a condition.
