I think some people forget that there is no honor in death on the battlefield. Regardless of believing that you'll be remembered and all that stuff because what's the point in dying when you won't even be remembered what's the point in dying if history is written by the victor. Point being Mikey Steph would have been in vain since he could have done so much more. I mean this is a hypothetical if he did finish kill himself in time.

@@nathanskywalker1536 Actually no! If we're sticking to when the original publication came out in 1984 Mikey was already about 15 or 16 add up the timeline 36 years plus add 15 or 16 years Mikey would be around 51 or 52. However we still don't know what year this stories timeline takes place.

The easy easter egg that it was Mikey was his lack of stealth like Leo, driving the hover car which Donny would have figured out, and his anger like Ralph is more mourning than rage.
I was thinking the same thing. Leo would have never tried to drive the hover car and Donnie would have figured it out.
He's a bit like Batman in that way, he's taken his grief to a new dimension...we actually had a movie where Batman and the four of them all teamed up...it'd be really cool if Terry found him and reintroduced him to Bruce...God, what would Bruce do for him, seeing him in a state that mirrors his own?

I also thought it was Raphael, but then I realized that Raph is the angry one....there would've been a lot of dead bodies if he were The Last Ronin. Only Mickey, the empathetic one, would be so overcome with grief, guilt, loneliness and depression that he would go in without a well thought out plan and decide to end it after failing his mission.
You have to pay attention to the tone of the message when he grabs each weapon. 1) When he grabbed the BO STAFF, he considered Donatello's reasoning. 2) When he grabbed the SAI, he displayed Raphael's "no nonsense" attitude. 3) When he grabbed the KATANTA, he renews his focus as Leonardo would.

I love how they chose the goofy and joker of the team. It's like, he is Batman now... A once cheerful lad but because of a tragic incident, the once joker of team becomes a badass lone avenger...

Can't deny that it is the most difficult weapon to master. However, Sai's are extremely hard to master as well so it could have been Raph based on that logic. Glad they did go with Mikey however. He was always my favorite.

I was paying close attention of how the last ronin and his brothers were talking to each other. One would say a geeky reference, one would say a nerd reference, one would talk maturely, and one would talk rudely. They kept mixing up each of their tones to throw readers off. Threw me off. I thought It would be Donatello because of the high tech smoke bombs, but I'm cool with it being Michaelangelo.

I expected it to be Michelangelo. It seems reminiscent of the 2003 tv series episode "Same As It Never Was" since his personality was really dark and it was an interesting development of character since he went through such emotional turmoil to become a ronin like warrior. Since it is such a shift of his character it really creates an emotional response since such a contrast to the happy-go-lucky character highlights the toll of tragedy on him. None of the other turtles could make such an impact since the others were already generally more serious so it makes sense for this story as well.
Hope they do one based on Leonardo and Raphael since Mickey and Don already have their Old Man stories.

Michaelangelo wasn't the quiet one. That would be Donatello. Michelangelo was the most innocent, pure of heart. So, technically, this isn't his true identity, this is something that was forced upon him. That is why it works.

I like all the Turtles, Leo is my favorite, but from a narrative standpoint Mikey is simply the very best fit to be the last Ronin by a very wide mile. Very pleased they went that route. He became such an ultra-badass and completed the most compelling and interesting arc of all the Turtles. Love it.

Yeah they started as a Daredevil parody, Daredevil fights against The Hand, they fight the Foot Clan, Daredevil was given abilities from the ooze and became a Ninja, the Turtles got mutated by Ooze and became Ninjas.
Every time its a post-apocalyptic TMNT story, its always Mikey. He's been described as the best, most naturally gifted turtle of the bunch but because he has his brothers to pick up any slack left in the group who handle the more serious matters, it frees Mikey up to the point where he's able to slack off with his training. If he took things seriously, he'd be incredibly strong and its always the most lovable in a series that suffer the most in stories like these

The "all included" the "tou dont have to be great because you're always great just for being" people. Mikey is my favorite character in all cartoons and comics. I grew up on all this shit. But that's just the trend. Especially as we move into next generations. The kids, characters, people, etc that seem to be the ones that need more discipline, are shown to be the greatest.
In at least the 2003 cartoon continuity, Mikey is BY FAR the deadliest of the Turtles on the rare occasions when he focuses and gets serious. He's more agile than Donnie, more skilled than Leo, and more powerful than Raph. He's even capable of THROWING his nunchaku so hard that they punch through Utrom Shredder's armor and get stuck there. THAT IS COMPLETELY BONKERS. I don't think even Splinter has that kind of capability.

My guess was always that it was Donnie. Cuz his staff was broken so he used his brother’s weapons to honour them.
Only reason I didn't think it was Donnie going through is how unfamiliar he seemed with some of the tech around. Even if he was behind on his tech knowledge, he would still have a better idea of it then the others.
I didnt think it was donnie bc donnie for sure would know how to drive a car lol it was always Mikey who was the nut driver. Especially in the TMNT movie where he had the van 😂😂😂

I started "chucking" when the t.v. series first came out. To grow up with them and Mikey's only left is very hard to take, awesome & emotional.

Spoiler alert: What I like most about who the Ronin is, is that he has always been the “party dude.” Fun loving, most relatable. And now he’s dark and focused and hellbent on revenge and bringing down the bad guys. It just shows how hard his life has been to turn him into this

That's what I said! But the basis for this story was written back in the 80s and forgotten about. So maybe Eastman and Laird were thinking about that this story when they were doing that episode.

To be honest, I was thinking he was Mikey, I only remember seeing the show long ago and I've seen lots of serious moments with Mikey it makes sense too.
The party dude really matures in most in the future. Dose anyone remembers the 2003 TMNT were Donnie went to a alternative future and met a one arm Mike? Or the short where at the end of were their is mech turtles suit were Mike takes the roll of Splinter? Now Mike is like Leo and Raphael merge into one. Man, Mike doesn't get a break in the alternative future time lines.
Yeah there was an episode for the 2003 TMNT, where Donnie accidentally gets thrown into the future and it's a dystopian, Frank Miller like future ruled by the Shredder. Mikey is the only turtle active and he's missing one arm while the others disbanded because Donnie's disappearance and the death of Splinter. The episode ends with them killing the future Shredder but nearly all of them died. The only ones that are left is an old April and Donnie, who makes it back into the past.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who remember that or the show.

@@CA-ko8gi all it takes for these kinds of mysteries is to expect which would be the most surprising, it couldn't be Leo cuz he's already serious so therefor it wouldn't be that much of a mystery, nor Raph because he's too hotheaded and can be dramatic too, or Donnie because it wouldn't be nearly surprising as it being Mikey. ;)

I love that Mikey is The Ronin. In every iteration of the TMNT, he's said to be the most naturally gifted/overall best by a wide margin, but never reaches his full potential because of his chill personality. This story reminds me of the 2003 series episode "Same as it Never Was".
I love this! Mikey was always my favorite as a kid. And I always thought they never got into his potential very much. Always making him seem the weak one. Would love to see a story like this with him as a badass
