Khabib's striking was soo bad that he almost didn't get touched at all in a 25 min fight against a dangerous guy.
nad sim do you know why? Becuase Al was worried about that low single. Look at the later rounds, leaning more on his front foot ready to sprawl. Al was really hesitate to let his hands go from khabib's early takedown success.
Yes and Als face looked like he got hit by a truck!
nad sim Al was focusing on takedown defense. Khabib read him I believe.
DrBootyShaker please don’t call iaguinta a punching bag.. it just shows how your a new fan to the sport and don’t know who your talking about. It’s cringe tbh
EXACTLY
I really enjoy the way coach Javier knows that Khabib isn’t gonna stand with these other fighters. He isn’t like other coaches that say “Oh we can fight em on the feet and take him down whenever we want.” Coach Javier did a great job at staying humble and giving props to Al and Connor and even Nate. Much respect!!!
AlohaPvP yea man, thus the undefeated record and champions left in right in his gym. Dude really is the man
Those comments helped himself. Because it shows he's honest. But it doesn't help khabib. Because you are not painting him as invincible to the casuals. He is doing a disservice to khabib. Coming to publicly admit he has lesser striking skills. He can believe that it's ok. He can tell khabib that it's ok. But going on camera to tell the casuals that is not ok. He only helped himself with those comments he didn't help khabib at all.
@@workeveryday8737 no actually its helped habib alot, makes khabib hungry.
@@workeveryday8737 The casuals will realise noboys wrestling is on Khabibs level
Firas Zahabi said Khabib had a phenomenal performance after analyzing the fight. I'll take his opinion over Rogans in the moment over exaggerated comments anyday..
preach
Firas Zihabi also said Eddie Alvarez had a chance against Conor McGregor.
Mystic Mac if Eddie listened to his corner (them scream body shots/48 but Eddie ignored and head hunted) we would of seen a better fight from Eddie
hey 1 2, stfu
Mystic Mac Conor was only -150 betting odds so apparently Firas isnt the only one who thought that
So much respect for Javier. Such a nice and talented coach, made 4 ufc world champions, love this man
Alex Williams you mean 4 champs walked into his gym
John Doe most of the guys were with hi before they even got into the UFC
Josh F-w I mean championship caliber fighters walking into his gym. I'm well aware they were there before they went to the ufc.
John Doe so he gets zero credit for developing the stand up of Cain and DC who were pure wrestlers before they went to AKA? He took Rockhold from a guy who did abit of BJJ and community college wrestling and taught him legit stand up and turned him into a world champion. To have 4 world champs walk into your gym you're either the luckiest guy alive or a pretty good coach. Might get lucky with one fighter like Edmond or John Cavanagh but 4 guys?
Josh F-w l you don't understand so I guess I will stop trying.
Khabib is smarter than people think he plays with each opponent, Connor will fall in the already laid trap
That true
And Conor did fall. :)
Oh yes
There is a special breed of MMA fan that has emerged in the last few years. Blockheads who treat Joe Rogan like some sage who never gets anything wrong.
LOL! So true.
Orlando Trustfull Well you’re wrong about one thing they’ve always existed. That said Rogan was definitely right in one regard saying Khabib backing straight up with his chin the air was amateurish, cause it is & was.
yeah... i dont understand how anyone can value his opinion after what he said about ronda... for someone like him, someone well-respected by quite a lot of people when it comes to mma, to say something so outrageously stupid... it actually makes me mad.
"Fallout" style :)
Joe rogan is a moron for the most part
Javier Mendez..love this guy
Khabib jabbed Al all night and he hardly missed. I’ve seen Khabib’s striking before this fight and TRUST ME, it’s improved significantly.
Javier is an amazing human being, the constant respect he gives to Khabib’s opponents is amazing, same goes for Khabib, he never disrespect other fighters. What a classy team.
Watching khabib forego the ground game and pump that jab was amazing. Great fight and thank you to raging Al for stepping up!
If u havnt seen improvments in khabibs striking then u havnt watched his past fights where he would b wild af
My thoughts exactly. So many people know Khabib but don’t know how he fights, wtf? When did these people start watching mma? Even if they started because of Conor, they should still know this. Taking casual to a whole new level.
javier mendez is a smart man
He said it all. Khabib has no holes his entire standup is focused around setting up takedowns. You don't need fantastic standup when you can easily take them down.
He has holes... How can you say his stand up is only to set up take downs and say he has no holes... Well guess what.. if he isn't able to get a take down than what? One dimensional fighters are just that. One dimensional.
JackDa Rippa When hasn't he been able to take his opponent down at will and also lose in tge striking exchanges?
JackDa Rippa striking is one dimensional, most strikers can't fight on ground but most wrestlers can exchange punches and drop opponents lol one dimensional
@@pakiboyhadrou you don't need to be great striker to good in striking ...This MMA you need to be effective in all department ...One dimensional but still toe to toe with so called superior standup fighter
This is real Mexican Gangster right here
Khabib is no elite striker, sure, but against Iaquinta, he most certainly improved and tagged him with solid jabs throughout. He didn't swing wildly--if anyone was swinging for the fences, it was Iaquinta, obviously trying to get the knockout (being the only way he'd win the fight once he reached the 3rd round). I was impressed with Khabib, absolutely dominated on the ground, and standing, he was solid.

Ariel. You have to put Khabib's picture on your wall now that he is the champion. You promised.

Javier is one great coach, really like his attitude towards fighting too and seems like a cool guy.
I like how he criticized Rogan but still gave him props. Makes your point stronger when you don't just trash the person you're criticizing. I can see why he's a great coach.
He is really a great man and great coach. I love how honest he is and how much respect he has for other fighters. It's really refreshing.
This is the honest coach i will ever see
Khabib is not a seasoned striker, he’s an elite grappler and high level wrestler. It’s quite obvious why his striking isn’t high level, because he doesn’t use it as his primary asset! If he was to, his grappling would be less apparent but because he’s so good at it, that’s what he sticks to.
Javier Mendez is SMART he had clean vision on future big part for success of his fighters
Khabib has stopped four of his UFC 10 opponents.... Conor McGregor got outboxed and exposed by Nate Diaz and soon as it went to the ground he Tapped Out in just a few seconds....
Haha notice how you didn't point out how many of Conor's UFC opponents he finished. Clinging to one fight. Khabib is obviously great but you can like him without blowing him.
Conor was rocked hard af when he went to the ground. Different when yur seeing stars compared to when u havent been tagged
Pete Ha ! Makes me laugh when you casuals have no clue that Conor has fought JUST ONCE at lightweight ! Now suddenly , Conor Mcgregor is a lightweight beast ? Ugh...no
Jeff Sargent Not a casual Jeff, fully aware of that, but he was champ at 155 in cage warriors too. His fights there are very impressive. He was never a proper 155 champ, but his style beats most lightweights except Khabib and Tony (more than likely). Stop calling everyone casual who disagrees with you it’s pathetic
@@pacman6163 lol
Javier Mendez is best coach in the world.
MMA is not kickboxing Joe. And who cares, a fight is just that, a fight, not a beauty pageant.
Seems like an honest guy. Good interview!
Kabib was toying with al. Put some boxing on the clock and win with a nasty jab is a great achievement.
look guys connor would destroy kabib standing toe to toe on the ground different story everybody is saying oh wat a striker he couldent box snow off a rope to be honest
@@derekwilson7880 i just wanna comeback and laugh to your wife.
@@derekwilson7880 I come from future and I laugh at this comment
This guy is amazing +respect
This is VERY enlightening about Khabib and his performance at 223. Thank you.
Khabib outstriked connor so.....
Good honest coach. Enjoyed listening
Perhaps the most clean and well disciplined interview of all time. No beep no f*** word no abuse no critising other people. Outstanding Mr.Mendes, KHABIB is in such a safe hands
Khabib is great at his wrestling game, he played with al for 5 rounds, khabib tried to move like ali and throw jabs with the chin up and he even talks during the fights like ali, I don't think he would throw those jabs and kicks against conor or tony or any other great striker, he would only do that if he feels at ease as he said
khabib time
Gotta love this guy , best team in MMA
Khabib showed a few REALLY explosive, fast kick/strike combinations. I was quite impressed by those. He even did it late in the fight, where many fighters don't have the energy to kick and strike so fast and powerfully.
Javier is an awesome dude. definitely a goal to go and see him, check out a gym and do a couple of sessions
wow, he sounds really like a great guy
Looking back to this interview... now we know how good this is
Smart coach, smart fighter.
Khabib did very well boxing al. People underestimate his stand up
Great interview.
great interview
Comments incoming from people who don't know anything about real striking. Including me.
Roley Chiu don't be a killjoy haha. Do you really take KZhead comments seriously?
Ben M you have the right mentality
😄😄😄👍
dude. .love ur channel...u get all the big boys on!!awesome!!
10:46 coz NO ONE wants to disappoint the scariest man around: Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov!!
listen this is not kickboxing. khabib striking is good enough for mma. he didnt get touched and Al looked like he was jumped by 5 men.
Wise coach
No hype train hyperboles and glossing over flaws, just honest and sincere comments on his own fighter... You've got to respect that.
Love the respect by Mendez, by the way. Iaquinta was a warrior for taking that fight alone, but for pushing it to five rounds was awesome. Turned a shitty circumstance into a great main event.
Both coach ang fighter are great even without trash talk, its so rare in that kind of business,

Most def the MVP of the thread. Thanks Rytis
The respect we give to coaches to guys like bill belecheck we need to give to this man he coached 4 ufc champions rockhold , Cormier , khabib , Cain this man needs to be respected more .
Javier Mendez is the best coach in the business
I think every fighter should calculate weight dropping and preparing like gsp it would be alot easier and alot less dangerous for fighters to make weight absolutely an excellent point he made gsp is very smart when it comes to the fight game would love to see khabib fight gsp
Javier Mendes is a terrific coach. Despite the language barrier and an idealogical lacuna, he's always successfully realised what it takes to control a monster like Khabib and gather respect. Javier understands what is required for Khabib to win, he's a master tactician and excellent at studying Khabib's opponents. In addition to that, he's also always realised what Khabib's father envisioned and wanted Mendes to do. People say that Mendes got lucky that talents have walked in his gym. That's true but without Javier's vision, tactics and ability to work with such strength athletes that could turn into loose canons they would not be where they are.
the real mexican gangster
Javier super coach
Ariel, where is Khabib's picture!?! YOU PROMISED HIM TO HAVE HIS PIC UP IF HE WAS THE CHAMP!
This guys are really smart
Ariel doing a really good Job!
I'd like to see some 10 vs 10 MMA fights. Good idea, Kalabib.
DC has never lost to anyone except cheating Jon Jones. DC is completely undefeated at HW. DC only really has problems with kicks, and Stipe really doesn’t ever throw any. DC can devour a Big Mac in 3.46 seconds while it takes Stipe a full 1 minute. DC once took on a whole store of Popeyes employees at once for shorting him a thigh in his 5 piece combo, while Stipe has never even defeated a single fast food worker. Stipe is great, but DC is the best to ever fight in the cage. #DCTime #NeverTouchedTheTowel
I think Javier is totally on point about the Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib could be a sick ending for the Light Weight Chronicles.
Comment section keep hating xabiib all he do is win win
Great job Ariel
The only difference between this fight and those before. Khabib didnt follow game plan. Also it dont matter how many times he shoots. He will take you down. Imo khabib wanted to test out his striking during a fight and see what he has learned etc. He also went 5 rounds without a scratch and great cardio. Not to say he wont face problems via conor or tony. I am a fan of all 3 and damn do i wanna see those fights.
Khabib was enjoying himself he even tried a back kick which is something he never did before.
Let people speak without shutting them down
Khabib was lookin like a combination puncher would have touched that chin. Who knows, maybe that opens the takedown. To me it looked like Al decided to be less effecive on the feet, but stuff takedowns as a trade-off. Khabibs chin was up, dats it
IMO the new commentator is the best the UFC has had.
Who, Jimmy Smith? Yeah, that guy's incredible. He and Mauro are the best in the biz.
very smart coah, it's more about the game plan, so true. Just watch Woodley beating Thompson on the feet???
Nobody ever thought khabib was a stand up fighter,if anybody thinks he is they really havnt a clue... his deffo working his stand up....way better than he was before, but its not his gift.....taking people down and breaking them up...... thats khabib.....this is his gift and this is why his a legend.....if you can stop his takedown he could be in trouble with a great striker.....but is this not a secret, just common sense...... GSP would be a class battle.....
Put Khabib's picture on the wall!
This fight reminded me of Bones vs. OSP. Also being a short notice fight, Jon beat him all 5 rounds with a 10-8. But people overreacted even though it was pure domination.
If one guys striking isnt on level with the rest of the division then that guy has a hole in his game. Period.
Mendez speaking the truth.
There's a lot of people who can't fight in the MMA community, isn't there
Ariel, WHERE IS THE CHAMP’s PICTURE IN YOUR STUDIO? #STAYLOYAL
I think Joe was bang on in his comments, if Joe didn’t point out Khabibs chin was high and exposed it wouldn’t have been mentioned at all.. And everyone would just been saying how good & unbeatable he looked which wasn’t true.
Conor might never fight Khabib now, now that Khabibs coach admitted they wouldn’t stand with him. There goes Conor fans wet dream of Conor knocking him out. Now they’re praying the Eddie Alverez fight plays out the same lol
There is plenty that Joe Rogan doesn't understand. Mainly politics & social issues. However, fighting is the one topic Joe understands fully.
Joe just wanted to make Khabib look human just to lure Conor into fighting him, cause his boss Dana told him to...look into it
Naaaaate Vs Khabib!
where is khabibs picture ariel
I totally agree with coach don't give Mcgregor the fight make him wait but I bet he doesn't even fight

21:19 sums up Javier's opinion on Joe Rogan. Nobody is perfect, and as usual, the internet is quick jump on someone's mistake and make it like it's the end of the world to which somebody is stupid, should lose their job or go to jail. Jeezuz some people need to take a deep breath and relax.
It's not so much how bad his stand up is or isn't it's his lack of power. He was swinging and landing on al. But didn't rock him once. Sure al was was beat up but never got rocked.
that is why he cant finsih guys. he landed more than 100 strikes on Al. Al has black eyes because he blew his nose afters. where is the damage? paper hands
its America joe has an opinion he needs to suck it up he is entitled to his own opinion end of if he agrees or not great fight though both guys went for it
i like javier, but he seems to be bashing joe in the beginning, ironically agreeing with him in the end.
KingKong couldn't make 155 but I hear you.
it's unorthodox but i wouldn't say it's ineffective
To me it seemed that after the 2nd round Khabib was standing with Iaquinta because he was unable to take him down. He made lots of takedown attempts that pretty much all failed after 2nd. Thus he resorted to just boxing( and he won the striking overwhelmingly), So for me it seems like spin to say he was standing because he choose to rather then was forced to. Obviously I am not an expert though so what the hell do I know?
Jo and co commentary on Jan vs Izzy: Joe Rogan: "If Jan can't do anything about these feints I think the ref is going to have to step in and stop this fight... This is brutal!" DC: "I know Joe! His corner might want to think about protecting their fighter if he makes it out if this round. You hate to see fighters eat THIS MANY unanswered feints!" Anik: "Ummm.... Fight clock bought to you by Modelo. Brewed with a fighting spirit."
Why does he say he has no holes in his game yet acknowledges he has a hole in his game. "He's growing, he's growing, he knows he's no striker." I thought it was constructive criticism needs to quit being defensive.
i love rogan but he does need to step up the boxing knowledge
Honest question would khabib last longer than Conor, vs Mayweather in a boxing match??
No way..Khabib and Conor are both great fighters, but Khabib's striking is no where near Conor's..Just like Conor's grappling skills are no where near Khabib's
Genuine question: I do Wushu Sanda Kickboxing, Muay Thai & a little Jiu Jitsu, just not all at the same time! So I'm asking: In MMA, is it legal to knee Khabib when he's going for that diving takedown? He's sometimes very sloppy when going for it. Don't want a big discussion, just a yes or no answer. Cheers
If he is on his feet diving, yes. If he is on his knees, no.
Yes, if his hands are not in contact with the floor. If any hand is touching the floor they are considered a ‘downed opponent’ and you can’t knee or kick, I believe. Although it is worth noting that a good wrestler will hide his attempts behind other shots and shoot quick, just like hiding your power shots behind jabs.
Thanks guys!
Watch the Yoel Romero vs. Chris Weidman finish for a good example of how it should be done.
