the fact that you respect it as a historic car, yet still drive it how it was meant to makes me feel less jealous knowing a real car lover owns it
exactly what I wanted to comment after I saw the video!
It's tough cause you do not wanna crash a rare irepplaceable piece of history and motorsports, but you also do not wanna baby the vehicle and not drive it like it wants to be driven. You have to strike the right balance.
Yeah, I was worried that he was going to treat it like a collector’s car and be ultra gentle. I’m happy he drove it like the sports car it is
i mean, it is the legendary Nico after all! if a man should drive this beauty it should definitely be him!
its being owned by someone who will treat it much better than I could
Imagine owning this automobile in 1955… You were the MAN....
Same as owning one now.
It's value nowadays is so much higher!
Imagine owning ANY automobile in 1955))) But especially this class auto.
You'd be the man even to this day!!!
They were the fastest road cars back then, even people like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley had these.
Best thing about this video is to see how Mr. Rosberg treats that car. While pushing it in the mountains, he still cares about the clutch, oil temp. etc.. Nice to see that a man who can buy pretty much everything actually enjoys and cares about his belongings. A true professional.
Just as I do with my '65 Mustang. I got extra gagues to check the voltage, oil pressure, and RPM and rarely push it. Im not necessarily rich, but I am still looking to put some money towards it and possibly supe it up a little without destroying reliability on the engine.
And, of course, that just adds to the enjoyment.
Why do you call him Mr. Rosberg, he isn't your teacher
@@nemanjap8768 he values respect
@@nemanjap8768 respect
I like how he INCLUDED the part of him grinding gears. Such an honest mistake even I make after driving stick for the past 6 years. Makes the video so much more real and relatable.
@@pierreless So what would you call that? a good driver?
It's much easier to grind gears on an old transmission like this, despite the fact that it does have all forward gears synchronised.
@@andrewpearce2562 oh for sure, but still he could have easily edited that part out and no one would have even known see what I mean?
@@socialNrocker oh yes, I do agree with you on that of course! 👍🏻
@@ginofoogle6944 So Rosberg is a bad driver?
A F1 pilot, wearing a Rolex Daytona while driving a 300SL Gullwing through Monaco mountains. Does not get better than that. Ever.
You mean status symbolic? The pinnacle of capitalism £o£. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into these products, but their price tag is just as ridicouless. Also, why do cars all look so boring these days? Is it really just because of efficency and airflow? (Motor noob speaking).
@@henrymick9648 I was talking about the absurd level of quality of all things I listed. From the 300SL to the sheer beauty of Monaco. Nothing to do with status.
It could be better. Driving a 300SL NON-"Gullwing", you stupid, *_STUPID_* fuck.
Reminds me, "Paul Newman"?
“Nothing to do with status” 😂
Nice to see that you all enjoyed the ride! Next outing coming soon!
May I come with you next time please? You have obviously worked very hard to achieve what you have and are very humble about it. Really nice guy. And the car Is gorgeous .
One of my favourite cars of all time, hopefully some day I get a spin in one. For now I look at my model one lol
Full send it! Always nice to see you driving Nico, thanks for the ride and explanation!
More such content please! Awesome to see an F1 champ get excited about classic cars. 👍😄
What a nice guy. Good luck to you, I used to love watching you race. This video is very personal and genuine thank you.

So here's my '55 Mercedes 300SL story. In May 1969, my soon-to-be (and now long-gone) wife and I were eating breakfast on a Sunday morning in a Howard Johnson's across from the VW dealership on East Kellog in Wichita, Kansas. As I looked out the restaurant window, I spied the signature nose profile of a 300SL sticking out a few feet behind the dealership's repair shop. After chowing down, my fianceé and I drove around the back of the car lot and, sure enough, there sat the SL, dusty, dirty, and sitting on flat tires. I was driving my first car, a '58 Mercedes 180D, so I knew what I was looking at. German car lust instantly swelled up in me. So, the next day, I visited the dealership, talked to the owner, and somehow convinced him to take me for a test drive. After waiting a couple hours for the battery to charge and the tires to be inflated and checked, we climbed into the cockpit and cruised east on Kellog. Even before reaching the Beech Aircraft plant, the dealer floorboarded the crimson-colored beast and I watched the speedo climb to 120. That sound! I had to have that car. The dealer made me this deal: "Jim, because you're a teacher and make next to nothing, I'll sell it to you for $100 down, $75 a month for a year. After a year, you pay me $150 a month until the $7500 price is paid off." I gave him $100, left the car at the dealership to be prepped, and flew out of town for three months to be with my folks before returning to get married, to chicken out of the deal, to get all but $5 back on my "hold" money, and to walk away from the biggest "fish" I ever caught. Should've kept the car and dumped the girl.
What a sad end :(
Jim Henry is that where Kellogg’s are from?
Congratulations, you played yourself.
Damn these cars are worth 4.5 million now. If you didn't fly back to be with your family would you have gotten it, or was it unrelated to the backing out of the deal part?
‘kept the car and dumped the girl’ ... unfortunately the story of most young men’s lives
That car is breath taking
Underworld Raps quite literally as it was choking him with the fumes

Nico Rosberg - The Cleverest man in Formula One. Prove you are a champion and win the World Championship. Then enjoy your life. Fantastischer Zug.
He's already forgotten
@Catfish Billy Go out on top. Let the others fight over it.
@@bay876 he isn't, he was an absolute legend when he beat Lewis. I don't see anyone beating Lewis right now. He broke his streak, LH could have been 7 time world champion, but this legend nico had balls of steel to do what nobody else able to do right now. Besides that, he's definitely not forgotten, Ferrari, Mercedes every car maker still respects him and gives him the behind the scenes access, and what not. His YT is doing pretty well.
Nico punked out..... he was always second to Lewis. Remember Lewis car broke when he was leading..... little punk got lucky that year.
Chris Henney So why come on a “little punk’s” channel? If he was bragging on here about his win, you could put another side, but he just seems like a nice guy showing us a nice old car. So many haters.
😆😆 As the saying goes, money is the root of all evil, but stay poor in today's world and watch the world laugh at you.
Millions come and go, but the gap between rich and poor is made up of the three pillars of risk, investment and determination.
You're right. A few years ago, I broke the shackles of financial instability and participated in the main source of income in today's society, I hired over 100 workers in my food factory and sent my children in the best schools.
John Joseph, a certified financial professional, has lifted my financial status to a peak with his trading strategies and I am now making huge profits from all three major sources of income namely cryptocurrency, stocks and real estate.
So I made a wise choice and got into real estate because of that. I invested in a construction project two years ago and I made millions this year and it won't stop unless you stop real estate services, it's impossible
Mr. John doesn't need to advertise so much, his big name speaks for itself. I am now a shareholder of a juice company in Thailand, all thanks to him, his cryptocurrency trading strategy is beyond my explanation.
"my eyes are burning from the fumes, its unbelievable!" he says with joy
Heeltoe'ing a 300sl in the hills above monaco, thats lifegoals right here ladies and gentlemen!
Would'nt it be great to have Rosberg back, and then you hire him ? He'd do far better than Kimi! Two Germans at Scuderia Ferrari!!! That's the perfect team!
Hire Danny Ric for 2019 please!
Sebastian does not have the balls to accept that deal
+Gonzalo Martinez You lie. He says he's afraid of no one and read yto take on any teammate, otherwise he doesn't consider himself a Formula One driver.
Words are taken by the first wind. But anyway, can you imagen two drivers competing for the championship in Ferrari? Remember when Barrichelo was faster than Michael.
For an old guy born in '44 and such clear memories of Stirling Moss, this was a real nostalgic trip especially through the tunnel at Monaco - great video Nico, have subscribed to your channel and best of luck for the future.
Oh my god, are you really 77 years old? How was it growing up with such classic cars being born into life?
It makes me so happy seeing people like you in comment sections. Hope you are doing exceptionally fine today mister :)
neale i'm jealous you got to grow up during so many iconic eras of automobiles
U really used to witness the golden era❤
You can see the emotions in his face, that's what a car like this will do.
Love the start procedure. Like firing up an airplane.
Something so pleasing about it. Old school driving
@@NicoRosberg amazing review. You have the coolest personality ever ! Glad to see you enjoying your life after F1. Greetings from Mallorca 😁
Nico seems happy. Good on you - there is so much more to chase in life than more championships. Such a role model.
For me the 300 SL is one of the most beautiful cars ever built! I would love to have the possibility some day to sit in one even for a short drive haha
Not one of, it is the most beautiful car ever made❤
I'm glad this car is driven and driven fast in occasion, as long as its looked after I'm very glad it sees the light of day and is used like it truly should be

I was not much of a Nico fan while he was an F1 driver, but I'm liking these videos now. Away from the pressure of F1, he seems like a really cool and likable guy. And he described the sound of that car perfectly...old school! so awesome, cars just do not sound like that anymore.
Very few cars make my heart beat faster when I see them. I still remember the first time I saw one in the flesh (not that it was long ago). It brought a tear to my eye. There’s definitely something about her. Glad to see someone appreciate and use her like you are. Wonderful car.
My all time favorite car, been a Merc fan since I was 11 and found out my mom had a 540k limo under her command in WW2 in the red cross in Belgium. I currently have a 2006 right hand drive E55 AMG estate. Pumped to a tick over 800hp converted to limited slip rear end. Endless smiles. Thanks for the ride along Nico.🏁
I agree
Top Gear should hire Nico.
Maybe he retired from F1 to be the stig
Not sure they can afford him! he would be great though.
Petyr Kowalski agreed Mr Rosberg is not cheap
YES!! That would be great
Great idea but maybe too much travel/time for him. I hope they listen to you and try tho
Amazing content here - I love that you really drive the car as it was intended. Thanks for giving us the chance to do a ride along and see what it's like behind the wheel!

That chemistry between driver and car, emotion is something else Cheers Nico
The ultimate car. Thank you for letting us experience you driving it, let alone the way it should be driven. Just amazing!
I just remember his Dad at Monaco in a post race interview showing his blistered hands and saying he hoped the team would give him a real chance in the car. Nico is exactly the Son I'd expect from a Bloke like that. he must be so Proud
Nico is such a classy man, his passion for cars is amazing,, his respect for the 55 gullwing is outstanding, it must be really heart pumping to have driven through that tunnel in an F1 car then accelerating through the tunnel in the gullwing, it is so cool that Nico talks you through the shifting, braking, and acceleration, thank you for sharing Nico.
That engine note is just sublime. I could listen to that song all day.
Every detail right down to the knobs and switches was thought of when they designed that car. A work of art. That engine noise. Music.
5:05 that yacht is called Dilbar, it's the largest private yacht in the world by volume, and is owned by Alisher Usmanov. Just in case anyone wondered!

Thank you Nico! Finally someone who drives their amazing car like it should be driven.. You do not baby it, and only keep it caged up in garage.. This is what I like to see!
Thanks for the video, what a beautiful car and so good to see it in an original condition and not over restored. The only person willing to push this type of car into oversteer...awesome.
What a timeless beauty... a masterpiece of automotive ingenuity.
Dealing with an old supercar is like dealing with a lady, take it easy, do what she needs and then you´ll have some quality time. The 300SL fits totally on you, Nico! Thanks for sharing another stunning content!
And if you push her to the limit, she'll squirt
O c’mon! What about those all beauty but no brains?
scotie690 what walk on eggshells and hope she doesn’t have a breakdown on you
Swiss Tony?
I love your enthusiasm for the car. Thanks for sharing the experience.
Thank you Nico, it takes me back to being a US Soldier in Berlin in 1960.........And there was a t least one you see driving up and down Kufurstadam......every so often, and it would stop you in your tracks, to admirable that magnificent car.
I can't get over the sound that engine makes, it truly sounds and looks legendary, and being driven by Niko you realize the potential of this masterpiece that was built such a long time ago
This is probably the worlds most beautiful car ever built! And for it to be driven by Nico Rosberg! Thanks for sharing! What an amazing car!
Now thats what I call a perfect week end drive, a sublime drive in a gull wing followed by diving a twizy. It cannot get any better.
The gullwing looks and sounds incredible...your respect for her is awesome 👍🏻
1 million subscribers now, Nico! Congratulations! So happy I discovered this channel. Please keep the great content coming 👌
Whenever I miss on a gear from now on, I won't feel as bad because I will remember that even world champions do that from time to time.
I like Nico. He's so keen on detail on every vlog he makes, especially cars.
When you see nico’s smile and eyes you don’t have to know him personally to be sure that he is a good guy 👍👍👍 and this car is a piece of art
Awesome car! Thanks for taking us along for the ride Nico! Really enjoyed every moment!
A white 300SL Gullwing. . . In pure condition... Me Jeally
When I was in college in the late 50s guys used to drive these to work !! My friend Kent and I drove his from Whittier to Palo Alto with the windows out, up Hwy. 99 - others on the street around Whittier were a 550 Spyder a C Jag and a Ferrari MM!!

One of my dad's patients had this exact car (well, year, model, color combo), he took it to the local Porsche dealership car days back in the 1980s, and I was permitted to sit in it. It was stunning, even in the era of wedge Guigiaro and Gandini cars. Easily one of the most coveted and lovely cars in history!
Watching this video has made remember me a friend of mine which passed away last March, 31, due to Covid-19. He was a great petrol fan, loving Mercedes cars as well as motorcycles... a pity I won’t share more stories and chats with him anymore! Thank you 🙏
Living his best life. I love that this is a $2m car and he's loving really driving it. Wonderful.
These vlogs are so real and cool! Was a fan of you in the F1 scene, still a fan now in KZhead form ❤💪
It's a piece of art. I could loop that engine noise for hours and be a happy man.
Beautiful, Nico thank you so much for sharing. I’ve ever seen this car at auction never being run at a full trot, so thank you, thank you, thank you.
Now that's a real car! For me, the 50s/60s period was by far the best when it came to cars.
Brodie Bennett Totally agree with that, many different unique cars, high quality, not all the unnecessary stuff that breaks after a couple of years and is expensive to repair.
I kinda get annoyed when I show people E-types, 300SL’s, DB5’s, etc. and they always think they are ugly! Like what the hell have some class people!
Brodie Bennett aperience wise
Its the nostalgia. In reality, modern cars are far more superior
50/60's - golden age 70/80's - nadir 90's/2000's - ok not the best present - golden age
WOW what an incredible car, the lines, the beauty is simply stunning. I have never seen one in the flesh yet and not sure i will, i live in hope, but thanks for sharing the experience
Nico's channel is quickly becoming my guilty pleasure. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Nico, scrapes the gears and waves his hands like a true Italian. I like it!!
Videos like this make me be REALLY thankfull to the people who invented internet. If wasn't it, where could I watch a F1 champion driving a Gullwing in a proper way at MONACO?? Rosberg, I really admire you and your work, man! Thank you and congrats for the good things and awesome vibe that you bring in your videos. Keep pushing! Best wishes from a kartist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hey, that was alot of fun going along for the ride. Nice to see such a young lad enjoying such a classic car.
The sound of that engine. And the nonstop smile on your face. This was a joy to watch.
Seeing it pull up the mountain streets just makes me smile 😁
Good to see you drive it like you stole it! :) Constructive criticism reduce the music volume by a lot. I get sick of turning my volume down when the music suddenly comes on, and then turning the volume up again so I can hear you. We all want to hear you and the car engines. Forget the music!
EDITOR WHO CAN'T EDIT.
Agree! Shit ;/
El Casho yes the music is annoying af, 10 min loop
I agree, forget the music!
El Casho - Thank God that there's another like minded person in this music infested world. I thought it was just me who kept complaining about music in videos by KZheadrs. In this video, you have a great driver in a stunning Mercedes Benz 300SL. One of the best looking cars ever built. And it's all over shadowed with some crap squeaky music sung by someone I don't know and don't care for. This video already HAS music. It's called the car's engine!!
Probably the best Mercedes ever built... Beatiful car. Would love to see more videos with cars like this one. Grande Nico!
You know the cars special when u got a smile from ear to ear when driving...in the garage
6:40 that sound was beautiful of that beauty, and thank you for driving it also instead of it sitting in a museum, I think all beautiful cars like this should be enjoyed..
This over any modern day supercar every time! Love it!
I have seen this video several times. Thank you, it is such a treat.
Thanks Nico. Il thoroughly enjoyed this piece of legionary history. My first car, a 1930 Chevrolet also shared a 3000 straight 6 (albeit slower). Todays kids will not realise that there were always a set of procedures before starting up your car. And still it was always awesome. So glad that youngsters like you can appreciate yesterdays marvels. From Africa with Love.
Great video! What on earth can give pleasure to an F1 World Champion after driving the most advanced machinery at a speed of 360+ kph? Truly amazing. However Nico, we love you and please don't push to much with that Merc without seat belts.
burakt16 i Think it's hard work to drive an F1 car. So most driver enjoy comfortable cars private.
The shifts go soo much high and the sound still is amazing. What a car. When you think that one fender for this car costs 11000 € you know that the w198 is a super car. Today and forever.
Absolutely gorgeous piece of machinery! Thank you for this video Nico.
You just gained respect in my books. A machine built to be used, and pushed. Cheers, dude
This car sells in the range of $1.0 to $2.5 Million!! Quite a Classic Car!! 👏🏻
A bargain at twice that price, when you look at what old Ferraris are selling for at auction.
@Krakra Kranich I don't think Saudi cash is what is driving up prices on the old 1950s-1960s Ferraris being auctioned at Sotheby's, Bonham's and RM: collectors like Ralph Lauren and Nick Mason don't seem to fit that description. And then there's the Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis No. 4153 GT, bought in June in a private sale by an American businessman for $70 million…
Yet he drives it hard
@Krakra Kranich It's wrong , those middle eastern princes have absolutly no taste , as they are completly sutpid and have no culture , they are not interested in classic car , they are the ones who buys those awful bugatti/lamborghinis gold plated or lavish colors.
@@lebaillidessavoies3889 This is true of almost ALL the wealthy. They will pay over-inflated prices just to make sure their rich neighbor can't own it. And these trinkets often sit in high-tech warehouse vaults, safely locked away from all eyes. Only to be sold when they need money for the next sparkly thing...
Starts just like old planes! Thanks for showing us this amazing machine!
If there ever was a video on KZhead that showed pure class. This is it.
