Could have listened for another hour
Nick Grant exactly right. Only criticism of the interview was too short. Need a longer version.
What a striker loved watching him at Leeds ,Legend
That last sentence really shows you who he is, even more than the rest of his honest and well spoken interview. Prem legend and so underrated
Poignant and yes, a class act.
that last sentence is what true "legacy" is all about
I played against him at the National Championships in 1989 in Coffs Harbour. He was playing for Victoria and I was playing for Western Australia. One night I went out with some of the Victorian boys that were staying in the same house as me and I met him and lost $5 playing darts against him if I recall correctly. I remember he was big, strong and skillful back then. He was like a giant compared to the rest of us. We would have both been only 14 years old.
Best target man I've seen at Elland road in 50 years of Leeds watching. Strong as an ox, feet like a ballerina. Brilliant, superb player. Great interview as well.
He had great skill for a big man. Nice guy most of all.
Gary Neville said that Sir Alex Ferguson was very respectful of Mark Viduka and would give team talks specifically on how to stop him. Says a lot about Viduka as a player really
I have a sudden urge to visit Zagreb and drink some coffee.
You will have to wait until this Covid situation is cleared.
@@jakovcu LOL
My Serbian friends would suggest the cafes in Belgrade and wished Viduka had played for Partizan (Belgrade).
@@sethfinberg348 Well Viduka scored goal to Partizan playing in Zagreb for Champions leagues qualifications. When Viduka came to Zagreb Serbian rebel forces were 18km from Zagreb.
Any idea the name or where his café is? I’d love to drop in and have a coffee from Dukes and give him thanks for his service to Australia.
Viduka was a tank! Australia is still trying to look for his successor.
Just anyone who can put the ball in the back of the net from open play would be good at this point...
Another ethnic Croatian lmao.
Get chevapi with it
Spotted on!
Grew up supporting South Melbourne, and with Viduka being a star player for Melbourne Knights, (our biggest rival during that era), I got to see a lot of him. To this day, I still am absolutely adamant that he was the best home grown talent that I have ever seen in our country. 18 years old and absolutely tearing apart the old NSL. His touch, control, strength, and finishing ability was class to say the least. What a player he was and it was a privilege to have seen him in his prime.
it is a shame that his and so many other players knowledge is lost to australian football. Great interview.
The FFA is completely at fault. Since 2006 we have become progressively worse.
So true
Amazing interview. Thank you Mark. Easily Australia's best and most underrated player. The mainstream media never understood the fact that he sacrificed himself to play such an important role for the Socceroos.
Tim Cahill
Harry Kewell
@@sam-ze8bz Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell are hardly underrated.
@@sam-ze8bz cahill never had barca, juventus and inter milan chasing him
@@juz882010 But he stayed at Everton, give me a break
Kicking the ball in the backyard with my old man....right answer
Australia’s best player without question and remaining humble and unselfish throughout- absolute legend.
Also the comments re players selfishness at Asian cup is spot on! yes that includes Cahill !
massively underrated. right footed christian vieri. the dink finishes, hold up plays, back heels. a big man with touch and tekkers, they dont make strikers like viduka, vieri, diego tristan anymore.
I agree with you. He was like Vieri.
Vieri's favourite sportsman as a kid was Allan Border! Imagine Vieri with Viduka and Kewell
The game has changed since their day. Nowadays 433 reigns supreme and a center forward must be able to contribute to the build up play by linking up with the wide forwards and midfielders. Gone are the days of two man strike forces where one can drop deep while the other stays up top to latch onto a long ball from deep.
@@unstoppableExodia Have you ever watched Viduka,? Sure he could play target man but that wasn't the only string to his bow? He did all of the things you mentioned, he would be absolutely fine in most systems today. Lewandowski is a good modern day comparison.
1 of the most underrated players ever
Agreed. He Was a beast, technically superb. What a lad too
Wouldn’t say underrated at all. Was a class above the rest
Exactly! What a team Leeds had then with Viduka leading the line, backed up by Kewell, Alan Smith, Bakke, Dacourt, Kelly, Harte... they reached the semis of the Champions' League under David O'Leary. A great striker, could play on his own up front, never truly appreciated.
@@Sramota1 did u get the meaning of "underrated"?
@@rituraj4447 I know what you mean. I love Leeds United. I remember that time so well...Another set of great players were Woodgate and Radebe
The streets will never forget. Mark Viduka.
The most naturally gifted player we ever had. Even his old Leeds team mates said if he applied himself more at training he could have been one of the best in the world. A true legend. Old school!
One of the most... do not forget our other Aussie star Kewell! But I agree with u, this video makes me nostalgic. Wish Leeds were back again in the premier league.
A great center forward. However Cantona was even better..
@@ElectricSoulShow Why suddenly Cantona? He was in a different role and a cut above, the 9.5 that he himself claimed to be, the 1st gamechanger in the PL era in that role followed by the likes of bergkamp.
apache tyson He was better at European level than Australian.
Please can anyone get the full length version of this video. I and many others would love hear it.
Mark Viduka is the best Australian footballer of all time, from 99 to 2002 one of the best forwards in Europe
Viduka, Kewell, Cahill, scharzer. Oh I miss my days of 2000s.
With Stan "Catch me if you can" Lazaridis on the wing.
What a great interview ! When he sips that espresso at the start, that is Viduka personified ! The best player we’ve had by a fkn country mile ! Pure class ! He is just a relaxed mofo man, I didn’t think I could like him anymore than I already did ! Fkn Leeds blocked him from AC Milan ! At the time prob the best team in the world and his boyhood club ... Dukes is an Aussie treasure
The days of seeing him tear apart the EPL defenses is something ill never forget, and long to see from another Aussie again.
As a young Australian with little knowledge of football, watching Viduka at Leeds is what brought me to the game and developed an overall passion for the game globally and here in Australia. It is so sad there has been no one like him or the other quality players of his generation come through since such a great era of player depth in Australian football.
Viduka stvarno se vidi da si ljudina i dobar čovek. Uživanje je bilo poslušati ovaj video i još sat vremena da je trajao ne bi bilo dosadno. Svaka čast!
Makes me sad to see where we were... and where we are now.
You will bounce back, I'm sure! Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia! Stay safe!
One of the most elegant players to play in the premier league. I remember in 2000 when he scored four against liverpool. Everyone was talking about it the following monday in school, how brilliant this Australian was. We couldn't wait till the weekend again for the highlight show to watch those four goals. Nice memories. I will never forget!
I love Leeds United..It's so good to hear from people from around the world about this player and that Leeds team of 1998 to 2001....Such a good center forward..the only thing he lacked was sheer pace..But he had everything else....
@@ElectricSoulShow Yes true, no real pace but those are actually my favourite types of players - Le Tiss, Bergkamp, Berbatov, Viduka. That Leeds team would have won at least a title if they played in this recent era just like Leicester. I also enjoyed watching the futuristic Villa team in the late 90s with the 3-5-2 formation, topping the league by christmas twice only to fall of the map by april / may. Those were the best times!
Can’t take the boy out of the western suburbs of melbourne, watching this makes me feel you are still around, could listen to your stories all day, all the best.
Zisis B. He’s still got that western suburbs Australian accent....
Frank Machin 100%
“Kewell and Cahill weren’t even developed in Australia” I love that line. He’s so right.
Brilliant player. Lovely man. The answer to the question at the end....pure class. What a humble guy.
Class player🖒 my mind goes back to when he destroyed Liverpool at Leeds he was brilliant that day. Liverpool fan.
We tried to forget the Big Aussie and his scoring ... 2020 Reds are finally getting the title.
havent heard from him in 10 years. what a legend
100% Authentic. God bless you Dukes. We love you in Australia. Champion Bloke.
I love the last part. It is so touching. Favourite moment of his is kicking the ball with his old man.
What a legend. I loved following Leeds during those awesome years. Great interview. Its the year 2020... I repeat 2020 and we still cant get Football right in this country... very sad.
Loved the v bomber... being a st.albans boy I grew up listening to story's about his time at the knights
6:14 Great to finally hear someone coming out and saying it how it is. More big names should be critical of the way the game is run in Australia as it’s not good enough and has definitely regressed.
I hope this gets shown around the a-league/FFA. Not enough former players speak out about the mismanagement of the last 10-15 years.
@@Juventud2222 Some have, but I agree it sadly hasn't been enough. I think most Aussie football fans agree but none of us have the voice/platform to make it known that change is needed. Therefore it is down to the players to continually put pressure on the people at the top to make changes to the way the game is run. Its all well and good making a few comments in the odd interview but realistically that isnt going to change anything.
Such an accomplished player. Solid in every league he tackled: Croatia, Scotland, England... Perhaps the best player Australia ever produced.
Was at the 4 3 Liverpool game. Best individual performance I've ever seen at Elland Road
What a player what a man miss you dukes
What a legend
Probably my favorite player of all time for Australia. Great player, great guy, great personality. Truly a one off
Viduka you legend played for both my team leeds and Celtic what a baller ☘🍺
VERY HONEST INTERVIEW, BIG DUKES WHAT A PLAYER AND JUST THE RESPECT SHOWN HERE ON HOW HE CHOOSES HIS CHOICE OF WORDS. ALL CLASS.
Although he is only 3-4 years older than me, I watched him as a kid in the NSL at the age of 17 and 18. I think he was 17 when he made his debut and scored twice against Preston Macedonia. My cousin played with him at Melbourne Croatia juniors and he was a monster even as a 16 year old. Although not a well-spoken gentleman, he still knows how to get the message across with honesty and says it the way it was. Such as shame football in Australia has not called any of these legends to help run the game. Thank you for the interview just a shame it wasn't longer.
One of the best players I’ve seen play for Leeds. Fantastic at holding up the ball and bringing other players into play.
Love this interview. Mark viduka my childhood hero
Am a Ghanaian but I just love this guy.. one of the best strikers in childhood times
Loved Viduka at Leeds. On his day he was impossible to stop. Great memories watching him play.
The V Bomber...what a great socceroo...a member of Australia's Golden Generation...Aussie Red
What a legend 🙏
One of the best finishers, a natural footballer.
Great watching him in his prime. Lethal finisher
Most Humble Football Star ever... !! Mark''s Last comment is the cherry on the cake Proud to know this Great Man..!!
Easily our best player. Always got the best defender, always was out numbered at the front. Fantastic interview, loved it.
Open honest and possibly the most candid interview I've ever seen by an ex footballer. Captivating to watch. Brilliant interview.
This is great to see 👏🙏
Good interview. Always liked Viduka as a player, but respect him even more with his opinion and honesty.
Never was a Leeds fan, but always liked Viduka..hearing him say Van Basten Gullit and Milan was his favorite team was awesome
An absolute legend
Really enjoyed that, however I would have loved for Michael to have asked him about his Knights days.
Big Dukes telling it exactly how it is
Great interview what a player you could already see when Mark was at the Melbourne Knights he was going to have a wonderful career :)
Thank you for this video amigo. Mark Vaduka; the V-bomber, our captain true! This gentleman never disappoints, every time all the time! Humility, earnest, proud to represent, and a wonderful sense of deprecating humour. We will always love you big bomber. Do you have a mini bomber, when can we see him representing ozzy!? P.s Twice mina’s beauty rules okay?!

Our greatest ever player
Brilliant, over too soon tho. Engrossing . That last comment ...shows what a person he is.
great interview and Viduka providing honest insight into former team mates and coaches Aus no1 player @ 2006 WC
God, I cried when Australia qualified, what a great Socceroos team.saw Viduka play for the Knights in the National league, that was a while back.
what a legend of aussie football..........wanted to hear more.......
This guy is GREAT, love his honesty. Speaks a lot of truth - so refreshing. And my god it reminds me how good 2006 was.
love you mark, leeds united legend. so happy he never went to man u. he would have stayed at leeds had we not been relegated i feel. loved the club
great job Michael Cain
The greatest footballer this country has ever produced. We will be lucky to ever see another champion like this produced through our system.
harry kewell, tim cahill, mark schwarzer?
@@aaront9778 They were all good.
Read my comment again. All those players to mentioned were not produced through our system.
@@Robbie1950 i stand corrected.
Great interview. Aussie legend. Really enjoyed watching Mark play. Such a genuine straight shooter too.
Absolutely love the Duke. Loved watching him play back in the day at Somers Street.
Great upload bro . Thanks for sharing
Loved him at Leeds!
What a player to watch!!! He created space, he moved defenders away and had some incredible passing skills. Such a noticeable presence up front. Defenders always knew to keep an eye on ol Dukes. Underrated Australian player that brought real quality to the game.
Absolute legend. Greatest Socceroo of all time in my opinion. He makes some very good points.
When fit and in form was up there with the best strikers playing the game !
Love the honesty
Love Vidukes. Not because I love Leeds (though it doesn’t hurt) but because he is just a down to earth 1st generation Australian kid proud of his Croatian heritage, straight shooter, great player.
Awesome!!
Legend of the game
Legend. Respect
Raw chat and total support of his opinions.
Great great man. Don’t let history forget how talented and forthright this gentleman is.

aussie legend and great bloke. Great player and miss him playing in the prem, i reckon he could teach up and coming aussie players a few tricks and tips.
