Jake Gyllenhaal impressed many people when he got shredded to play Billy Hope in the movie Southpaw, and this included bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.
However what surprised Arnold was that he didn't set out to get into that condition. Jake had five months to prepare for the film, and wanted to look and move like an authentic boxer.
In his mind, training twice per day would be equivalent to 10 months of preparation. Boxing training twice per day for 5 months lead to a slow progression in his condition, but he look amazing when it came to filming.

“Pretty slow progression over five months”
He's talking bollocks 🤣🤣🤣
Lol
More tren more men
Well to be fair he wasn't massive. That muscle size is pretty attainable for literally anyone 20 to 30 in 5 months. It's the shred that is impressive and losing fat has always been a much faster process than gaining muscle.
@@Arkhs I think it was cus he just came off another role where he lost loads of weight down to like 66kg. So according to article he only ate 2400 calories a day to get to this. He was already shredded and then just put on muscle instead of fate due to the training. Seemingly anyway. He claims to have been only 165lb when filming started. So maybe he looks good because hes shredded but in person he was kinda thin? Who knows.

Trenything is possible
Caloric deficit plus a decent program will result in losing 2-4lbs of fat, weekly. Muscle building + cardio increase calorie burn. 4 weeks per month is approximately 8lbs lost. 5×8 = 40. Plus supplementation? It's possible without PEDS, especially if be followed the gruesome weight cut regimen which is actually not very healthy. Only to make weight.

@@TheWhiteTaco lmao damn pansies always thinking every transformation is gear induced.
You can't look like that in 5 months without already having a great body or doing steroids
Both in this case
He already is in good shape. Doubt he would take steroids if he didn't aim to get a beautiful physique. He got big waist, abs but small chest. So he prolly didn't lift weight too much. Hence, what he's saying should be true
He already had a decent physique and he obviously responds well too excersise, also he most probably had a good diet, you can see he wasn't on steroids by his shoulders, and his vascularity wasn't as prominent as most steroid users, if you work hard enough and train intensely enough and diet hard you can achieve this, genetics also play a big part, don't just throw the steroid phrase around if you dint know.
@@beetea2886 he is most definitely on some type of synthetic growth hormone or steroid, 5 months is insane, plus he trained two times a day, a clear indication that he’s on something

Y’all think he got on the sayce for this? (For those of you who don’t know, his physique in that movie to be achieved in 5 months after getting slim for night crawler is outrageously impressive)
If I hadn't read this comment, I'd have been on the fence. But yeah knowing this was 5 months after Nightcrawler he 100% sauced lol. The physique is completely attainable naturally, just not in that timeframe. Not even with "muscle memory" (which is a real phenomenon... but it's not this effective lol). It's a similar deal to Christain Bale's Batman Begins physique. Attainable natty, just not _that_ quickly. In my estimation you're talking 18 months minimum even with prior training experience to build a physique like this from scratch naturally.
You can see this is natural well done on not taking the Hollywood juice.
I remember first seeing him in jarhead. Definitely one of the most underrated actors of all time

Arnold : "He was literally zero body fat" Yeah no I think he'd be dead if that were true
Im sure this is in the comments. But also he clearly did steroids. Hard work is a must and he did ALL in the video…. But he also did steoroids.
If he took steroids i must say this physique is not impressive at all, anyone could look like this with decent time training and low calorie/water intake unless bad genetics is a factor
@@elrodrigo4102 not in 5 months close to the age of 40….
@@maisonMaple still not impressive at even age 50, smh people nowadays.
@@ic8537 taking roids doesn’t automatically make you a muscle mass monster…Saying he couldn’t have taken steroids because he doesn’t look big or impressive enough in relation to one’s own narrow subjective conception is naive af!
I don’t know, he’s really not that big. He’s lean for sure. But he started at a baseline of a fit Hollywood actor. I think half a year of hard training could get someone who was already fit into the shape he was in. He’s not a mass monster and not super low body fat. He looks like an athletic 8-12 percent body fat. Doesn’t exactly scream juice.
He left out the part about the gear
Now this dude doing the same with roadhouse movie ❤❤❤ this guy is insane 😮😮😮 Oscar need this guy 😢
What they won't tell you here is that at age 49 Schwarzenegger had open heart surgery because of damage to his heart due to the steroids he was in while winning Mr. Olympia. It's sad that you only year 1 side of it.
What's really sad is misinformation. Arnold Schwarzenegger was born with a bicuspid aorta. If you took the energy used to direct hate toward someone you don't even know and directed it inward, you'd improve. But that takes strength.
Not saying steroids wasn’t a contributing factor but he also has a hereditary heart condition that people in his family have died from. They definitely took steroids back then but much lower doses and usually only leading up to a contest. Not like the mass monsters of the 90’s and beyond that were taking GH, insulin, steroids and who knows what else, all year round trying to push the boundaries of the human body. Much more taxing.
@@bryanvincent4520 I saw an interview with Arnie and he said that he used steroids and that it was the primary cause of his heart problems. And he mentioned the hereditary heart condition as well but he didn't disclose what percentage was done, just what he needed to have done. It's been so long ago that I can't recall if it was a bypass or blockage or what that he needed to have fixed. But...he doesn't go hate chested anymore since he has that huge scar there. When I was into body building I did it without steroids but he was and has always beeny number 1 body building idol. I can't lift anymore due to very specific bone damage after getting hurt at work many years ago. But I'm still a fan of body building.
@@littleshepherdfarm2128 That sucks that you can’t lift anymore. I’m a huge fan of bodybuilding too. Pumping Iron is what hooked me and Arnie is still the goat. I took steroids a few times in my twenties and got results but while I worked out hard I was naive about what you do when your not working out, so a lot of my gains were usually not kept. Now at 46 with consistent weight training and diet for years I look much better than I did in my 20s. I still follow bodybuilding but I’m so glad they have the classic physique class now. Chris Bumstead is awesome and reminds me of those guys that originally got me hooked almost 30 years ago.
@@bryanvincent4520 Yep. I was just reading this comment and it got me thinking about my start. I was trying to quit smoking and took up body building. I smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day when I started lifting. First thing I did in the morning was stretches of the body part I was gonna work that day. Then a 5 minute cardio to get the blood pumping into the muscles. Then a 30 minute workout with free weights, a shower and go to work. On break at work instead firing up a smoke I'd do push ups and crunches. Then before going home I'd go to the gym (it was very expensive back then because it was a private club type gym...around $8,000 a year). Then my wife and I would go to Ground Round and have salmon or once in a while I'd get the swordfish. Talk about good eating! All you can eat salads at that particular one too and they had organic veggies from local farmers markets. Sometimes I'd have a big dessert depending on what it was. Then we'd go home and before bed I'd work out a little bit. Those were the days when Rich Gaspari was my body building idol! In 4.5 months I lost 45 pounds of body fat and put on 30 pounds of solid muscle. I did a few supplements at lunch time with a piece of fruit to keep my sugar balanced. I started out at 185, lost 45 pounds then went back up to 175 and put on 30 pounds of muscle. About 1 month into my work out schedule I realized that I was following the "bulk up" method and I didn't want that at all so I fasted and lost the weight then started eating tiny meals of veggies and fish and I ate 6 small meals a day that consisted usually of about 300 calories then one big evening meal and that one usually involved chicken, turkey or pork but almost never steak because although I love a good steak, eating it later in the evening caused me to not sleep well. No idea why but even today it does that to me.
