But these days, things aren’t so rosy. In fact, the situation got so bad that they will spend the 2021/22 season outside Germany’s top tier! It's really hard to watch Schalke struggling even in Bundesliga 2. I hope they will bounce back.
I had to look and see they're spot in the 2nd league. THEY'RE EIGHTH?!?! How is this possible?! I thought they'd just dominate and get right back up to the top flight again but my goodness. They have some soul searching to do.
Let's hope that they don't get relegated to the third devision first

@@spongeaang98 i mean the 2. bundesliga is a league where anything can happen and where any team can beat or get beaten by anybody. also the 2. bundesliga is a lot more physical than the first one so teams who aren't used to it will struggle. combine this with the fact that they have no money and a squad that isn't great and yeah, stuff like this will happen.

No not amazing. They never played amazing under Tedesco. I remember that season really well. They were really really lucky, often won 1/0, made many goals with standards, with a lot of luck and a good goalkeeper. The opponents played better most of the time. They played more like a solid mid-table team instead of second place.They also had a lot of mentally strong players back then like Caliguiri, Naldo, class players like Goretzka, Meyer, McKennie.

@@kaustavborgohain5161 I watch enough bundesliga since the early 2000's. Other teams would win it like Wolfsburg, Dortmund,. Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart. Now it's back to Bayern winning either consistently or struggle but eventually takes top 1 again.

This report has left out quite some important information about Schalke 04. There where also players like Özil, Rakitic and Memphis Depay playing at the club in their early years and the club had failed to secure there services for a longer period (2010 to 2012). Players which came through their own ranks, the Knappenschmiede, which is still one of the best youth academies in Europe where allowed to leave at fairly low price, like Draxler, Matip, and Kehrer which are now all playing at European top clubs. In addition, the club is constantly being pressured by into being privatised by outside investors who do not understand the German "publicly owned sports club" structure where a club is owned by its members and supported by public finances. By becoming a club member of a German club set up with that structure one basically becomes owner of a fraction of such a club with voting rights at member meetings. The member meetings at Schalke 04 have always voted against outsourcing and privatising the Bundesliga Team as a privately owned club separated from its roots of the publicly owned club. Following the club for my whole adult life I am aware that there are rumours that driving the club into financial ruin is part of a plot to force the members into agreeing to sell the professional top team into private ownership with a queue of potential investors already waiting but the members decided against it again and chose that they'd rather rebuild from scratch, take the relegation as a price to pay for keeping the club in public ownership. I wonder why so many reports on KZhead keep leave that somewhat important part out.

Outsourcing is not the key to success, look at Hertha BSC. Good decisions can be made with 50+1, leading to success. Axel Hefer understands that and stated from the beginning that the key is not investors bringing on money but buidling a team that knows what to do with the money
