This was really informative. Thanks for posting this.
I'm just an ol flatlander from Louisiana. 18ft above sea level. Watching these videos as well as doing a lot of other reading and research on forums has turned me into a shawnuff elk hunter. 4 yrs I've been to Colorado, I just sat there like a dummy hoping something walked out the first 2 yrs. Last yr I dropped my first elk, young 3.5yr old bull. 4x4. This yr I actually worked with another guy I go up with and used the same tactics I learned on these videos and the reading.. same tactics I used to bag my bull and we got him HIS first elk, a very nice 4.5yr old bull. 2yrs straight we have bagged bull elk on public land, unguided. SW Colorado in the national forest.
Sorry guys I have to cut it short by I learned a lot today based on the info given. Thanks a lot. Corey can’t wait till tonight for destination elk!
Great podcast👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great job guys! Can’t wait till tomorrow’s video!!
Heck yea!
When the Black Friday obligations are fulfilled I am going to listen in while hanging Christmas lights and some silver bullets.
Awesome!
Weekend warrior here, I hunt the same units every season and 90% tags filled lol it's completely doable!
Being from the northeast and hunting elk in Colorado like leaning information on other states to hunt in hope to make it out there
Saw or no saw? I hunt Washington states rain forest/coastal GMUs (the elk state you guys don't talk about or hunt LOL) and discovered I need to carry a saw for: 1. Survival - in case I have to stay a night or more I can have fire wood or shelter. 2. Cut an area to field dress an animal - cut the brush down around the animal. 3. Cut off the lower leg - safer and faster. 4. Cut a trail through the brush, especially when packing out an Elk. Right or wrong these are 4 reasons I carry a saw with me when ever I am in the woods. Thank you again for sharing your Elk/hunting knowledge with us.
No one talks about hunting in Washington because no one wants to hunt in Washington. #sorrynotsorry
The reason some people keep the full leg on is because some processors will not accept the boneless meat at certain times of the season. This is the case in CO, and I had to hump it all out, and to the processor. No idea why... however.
I think I will listen to this podcast when I am in my tree stand waiting for a monster deer to come in
This is about elk tho
Is there still give aways for commenting?
Couple good guys
I'd love your coffee and talk to you about hunting, deer and elk sometime. I hunt Western Oregon. What old timers? Tell me what I found. Western Oregon is the hardest hunting on planet Earth. All the work times I'll tell you down the bottom of the steepest nastiest drainage. You're going to find your big antlers box or bulls. They also say they killed one when they were young man in the bottom of one of those and they never went back. I can attest when I say the hell with it and I decided to kill some big antlers. I go in the bomb the nastiest hole and I can find. And yep I kill my buck or bull but God almighty it's a hell of a pack to get one out.
Randy come up to Canada 🇨🇦. Big bull elk
Corey you free this year oct14-20th? I have some llamas and I’m a disabled veteran going to hunt mccall idaho . Wanna come with or maybe help me pin point an area in 19a. I have all the gear and also a friend with cabin in middle of 19a.
Trying to get my son is first bull elk in Oregon and it's been a pain in the assbecause everywhere we go there are already a ton of hunters in every direction. Does anybody know a place from Tillamook to browns camp that's a good spot
The coast is a tough place to hunt.. I pulled a 4 point black tail from there 5 years back and my cousin and his friend got 2 bull elk the previous year but they keep closing all the roads... Thanks to the assholes at Weyerhaeuser...
Never hunted Oregon but in Colorado on public land you'll run into people everywhere. That's just something you're going to have to deal with But you can use it as a positive.. first off, when I see a lot of hunters in a specific area, to me, that is a good thing! Especially if there are lots of locals. Use that hunting pressure to your advantage by working areas on the outskirts or high altitude, farther from the road and those hunters. They'll push the elk to you. I worked a few draws in Colorado last yr full of hunters, I ended up going higher up than them and found a nice bull just laying there with some cows. Looked like to me all those hunters pushed the herd up to me. The further I got away from the other hunters the more elk I seen.
Auto grabs and prices in the Cascade mountains with no elk hunters. There's no app though either. Good luck buddy!
Any tips for spike elk hunting?
I have a few ideas... been there
