  • I think it sucks that nobody even apologized to him or said I'm sorry for a faulty equipment. Like it was Magnuses fault for hurting himself. Damn a bit more responsibility wouldn't hurt

    • For real, watching it frame by frame the bar went on both sides of the supports, Magnus did nothing wrong except maybe using an abnormal technique that the bar was not created for. Wild.

    • They can't say that, because their lawyers won't let them use the "language of culpability", i.e. admitting they did anything wrong. Sucks, but not unusual.

Have to keep in mind magnus was doing that technique for the first time, and given the circumstances was probably giving it a huge differential in force. Him push/pulling it at max tilt, on top of the impact of landing just sheared the bar in two, like tearing a phonebook. • the instinctive reflex for protecting the eye and the skull design around that area makes eye damage be quite uncommon, even more so when you are hanging on a bar wich isn't very different from hanging on a tree branch, so evolution did it's job cuts around and on the eyebrow are, in contrast, VERY common, probably because of the same reasons humans aren't tough like some animals but we aren't so weak either, it's normal to get these average cuts and bruises in sports

  • with the bar, i think they thought that if they made it out of carbon fiber it would be stronger but carbon fibre is strongest for tensile loads where it is stronger than steel. For an application like that its a Shearing/Bending load which is where carbon fiber is weakest. Its no surprise its broke, carbon fiber has only about 4% the strength when in shear conditions as it does when under tensile loading.

Climbing is also great way to exercise without it becoming really boring. Like gym is, as a rule, mind numbingly boring and uninspiring. • Fast ATV Trail Riding You are so dumb. This is obviously a joke, and you take it so literally. How could you just conclude that someone doesn't want to work hard just because of this comment. I don't think that you can tell someone to stop living just because they told a harmless joke that shouldn't offend anyone but an idiot such as yourself.

    • I don't think you know the roles of the host. He came over and brought the stress level down. . What's the point of people freaking out and causing a scene. He deescalated the situation and had everyone feeling ok. That is an issue that will be brought up with lawyers not an issue that needs to be brought up at that moment. yes that's the organizers faults but pointing finger and getting mad isn't the route to take.

    • All athletes would have to sign a waiver. I think it's as simple as him watching an athlete get hurt and coming over to see how everything is. This probably happens quite frequently (Not the bar breaking, but athletes getting injured) You're making this bigger than it actually is... Edit: I understand this isn't a popular answer, but it is what it is.

  • With a steel or metal bar, you have a strong and reliable bar. It is reliable because steel will fail in a ductile manner. That means that the bar will bend and hold it's shape before it snaps in half. But steel is heavy. A carbon fiber bar is lighter and stronger than steel, but when it fails it fails in a brittle manner as we see above. For games, I think carbon fiber is fine. The bar needs to be light or the jumps won't be as exciting. But for most things, we should use metals where reliability and ductility still matter.

    • @@lesbiehonest8914 If they don't have a specific clause in that waiver for injuries from broken or mismanaged equipment, they could likely be sued, at least for a larger injury like losing an eye. However, since it's an American show the waiver probably covers absolutely everything and anything. Still though, any deal or waiver can be challenged in court of law, in this case for example for gross mismanagement or misrepresentation of the courses safety. I'm not saying Magnus should do be looking to sue ofc, just that law is never that simple.
