We had so much fun taking you along to Newark Fair, apparently Europe's largest antique fair! I have slight regret at not getting the Chandelier, should I have picked it up?
Would love your recommendations for French markets.

  • In France: 1. Marché aux Puces de Clignancourt (Paris St-Ouen flea market) 2. La Grande Braderie de Lille 3. Brocante De Maroilles 4. La Réderie D’Amiens 5. Foire Aux Puces De Crèvecœur-Le-Grand 6. Brocante De Durtal 7. Château De Chambord Flea Market 8. Nantes Flea Market: Brocante Place Viarme 9. Lyon Flea Market 10. Grande Foire À La Brocante De Pézenas Some are on a weekly basis, others just once or twice a year. Some are extremely high-end (e.g. brocante de Maroilles), etc. I love your idea of a road trip visiting some flea markets.

  • Hi Laura. Most enjoyable seeing Ollie and yourself visiting the Antique Fair and also reminiscing about the start of your romance. It's always difficult deciding what objects to choose for your home. A tip I would give is to buy what you love. The right pieces both expensive or inexpensive will jump out at you. Amanda x

  • Hi Laura,Ollie and little Otto. The antiques fair looked great,in spite of the weather, and is the sort of place I love. It’s so easy to be seduced into buying many bits and pieces so I admire you for only purchasing the items you did. It was lovely to return to Loughborough where you and Ollie first met- I was offered a place there but ended up choosing a university in London.Take care and happy Easter! 💖🌸🌷

  • Thanks for taking us with you behind the scenes on your field trip! I live near the largest antique fair in the US -- Brimfield -- and it is definitely not for the faint of heart (nor for anyone without sturdy walking shoes and a collapsable wagon). Also, what a lovely coincidence that you and Ollie have the same alma mater as two of my other favorite YTers, @JamieandMegan. I wonder did you know each other at uni?

  • Hi Laura, we where moving house in 2014 and almost bought a house in the road opposite the entrance to Newark fair, which also has an air museum next door. We didn't buy because the noise from the various shows they have while sitting in the garden would have been too much. We ended up moving from London to Norfolk and having seen your video this Easter weekend decided to visit the Peterborough festival of antiques. Its only an hour from us and we are going on the second day, Sat 8 so it is cheaper and just a day out and no rain due. We pass Newark when driving up to see family in Yorkshire so I will try and book a visit in October so we can stop off at Newark as you have recommended. Thank you.

  • Last year we went all the way from vienna to the bretagne with our car (4500km) with a lot of stops in between. We did´nt have a ton of space in the car for additional stuff since we are 3 people in the car ;) but we went to a lot brocante and emmaus. my tip would be to stay a little while in one place, ask the locals where to go, because the brocantes and emmaus are very different ... some remote antique malls where especially good ;) emmaus is a chain of charity shops. You will find local calenders for brocantes online ...

  • Not sure if you follow French Country Life. The presenter lives in country France and many of her pottery pieces are of a similar taste to your own. She purchases them for 'very little' from her local Emmaus. Suggest you check out some of her vlogs for suggestions as to which part of the country she sources them. The thought of doing a buying holiday sounds wonderful. Good luck! Looking forward to your adventures ...... and wonderful finds!

  • Laura and Ollie, what a sweet couple you are! How nice that you’re both interested in antiquing. I’m so envious of all the crocks and pots you saw, as well as the wooden benches. Your home will be filled with beautiful objects and also with the shared memories of each piece you find. I have a huge collection of Fenton milk glass (an American glass company) I collected mostly in Oregon and Southern California. I also have a collection of McCoy pottery (American pottery). As well as mismatched English Bone China as there’s a British influence in my neck of the woods (Vancouver, Canada). I love Mid Century Modern teak furniture which is getting harder to find. MCM has made a huge comeback here, especially by younger generations who didn’t grow up with the style in the 1960s. Happy hunting to you. Looking forward to seeing what you find. Cheers from 🇨🇦 (Check out Olive Atelier website - beautifully curated shop in Los Angeles)

  • I enjoyed the trip around Newark with you - my husband and I have been a few times, but not since the pandemic started. I remember once the weather wasn’t so good, and being very disappointed by the number of stalls missing or packing up early. I imagine now many dealers sell online, so the fair probably isn’t as good as it once was. I also wonder whether Brexit has affected the continental dealers who used to fill their lorries with stuff and drive over here.

    • @@wendymckee6627 Wendy, not every form of criticism comes from a place of negativity or wanting to complain just for the hell of it :) I would like to see these videos reach their fullest potential. I'm sure there are fans who are hard of hearing and it might be difficult for them to hear what is being said entirely. At that point they might turn it off and not come back. For me personally I only find it off putting having to turn the volume up and down. Because guess what? I want to watch it. I've watched Laura for ages and love her content. Sometimes people say something precicely because they enjoy it, and not to be nasty.
