  • Fear serves to that make you realize your weakness so you can replace it with confidence and bravery as you age. It's a an emotion that when we are young keeps us in line and out of harm's way. Its part of growing up, but once you reach adulthood it serves the opposite purpose and many forget to not let it overshadow their true potential and it's result of waisted energy usually pondering on what future hold while they forget to live in the only moment we have to shine-NOW IN THE PRESENT.

  • Guys, if you are fearful of something, it just means you arent prepared to face it, whatever "it" is. Preparation is the key to overcoming fear. Many are afraid or too lazy to get into the trenches but its in the trenches where it prepares you, gives you wisdom and knowledge. Embrace the trenches and you will have no fear.

  • N = Non-identify. What he is saying is, if you can "percieve" your own emotion (point it out and identify it) that means it is not "you" ("You" are the one pointing at it). So there is no need to identify with the emotion because it is not "you."

    • I would put it another way. Everything can be perceived in the certain context. No context, no perception. So as Jung said, if something making you nervous it is something in you that resonates with it. So you have some internal context which makes you perceive.

      @operationblackbishop4785@operationblackbishop4785Ай бұрын
    • @@operationblackbishop4785 I agree. Very good here. Then, instead of saying, "I am This Anger" you can instead say, " I FEEL this anger but the anger is NOT WHO I AM it is what I feel about some circumstance going on in my life". And, this monk has said, " you investigate as if you were an investigator and ask where it comes from, why is it there and any other important questions but without judgement. Then simply accept that you are feeling hurt, anger, envy or whatever it is one is currently feeling. These emotions are the waves on an ocean but not the ocean itself but somehow is resonate with the under currents of the ocean. The rise and they fall and can do so without an injury to one's true self.

  • There certainly is substance to fear, and the fact that you're alive demonstrates it quite effectively. It isn't fear itself that has no substance. It is disproportionate fear that lacks substance. Hyper-exaggerated fear, irrational fear, or even a lack of fear, which can alter good judgement.

  • It's crazy how I instinctively knew what he meant by N in the R.A.I.N. because that's what I've learned (not too long) (and bear with me here) during a pretty strong PMS 😂 Usually you can find the "reasons" for feeling so overwhelmed by emotions. But that time I didn't. There was nothing wrong. Nothing to complain about. Yet hormonal emotional storm still came and shook me to the core. And I was just lying there thinking "yes, I feel these emotions. Yes, they're extremely intense. But I don't have any ground for them. They're just hormones acting up. They're real, they're important, I need to feel them and understand they belong to me. But they're not me, they will pass. It's an important emotion, but it's just an emotion". That day for the first time in my life I've felt grateful for periods.... because to learn that "an emotion is just an emotion" felt so powerful ❤and natural...

But some of us choose the sensation of moving forward even when our stop has passed us by. Or some of us fall asleep at the most inopportune time, right before our stop. And our train of thought carries us to places we never intended to go.

  • Having courage is not about never being afraid. You might be scared to do something but you do it anyway is the definition of courage. Courageous people are not without fear. Overcome a fear only if it is necessary in your job or brings you happiness in life. For example, if public speaking is occasionally part of your job and you are uncomfortable with it, overcome your fear with proper training, practice and preparation. And then do it even if you have fear. The more you do it the less fearful you will be. But if for example you have a fear of heights and bungee cording off a tall bridge brings you neither happiness or is part of you job, there is no need to overcome that fear.

  • Fear is also there for good reason. The key is to understand risk factors linked to the fear. 2 people who are about to jump off a cliff. Both will have a element of fear. To dismiss this fear though is stupid unless you have taken into account the risk factors involved.

Then you can loose your lunch. If you die it will be fast and you will not even know it happens. When wounded you use your mind to settle you pain and think good thoughts.

  • I Love Master Shi Heng Yi but fear is certainly not an "illusion". Fear is what stops you from running in front of a moving train, it's a survival mechanism. However, some people's fears are illusions. Much Love and Respect.

    @ChristoMac@ChristoMac4 ай бұрын
    • That does not mean it isn't a construct of the mind. It is definitely helpful, as we would not be here without. Exactly as youre describing, fear is important and integral to our survival. In modern days, however, our mind tends to overcompensate for what it is we are fearing. Like writing a paper, or making your bed, just to give a couple examples. This is when it is no longer labeled as fear, but as anxiety. When researching anxiety and the martial arts, this is what came up. I realized that labeling as anxiety is what gives it so much power. It is fear that I do not need, because there is no material value to it, exactly as Master Shi is describing. It is different when there is material value to it, like when there is a train that could hurt you, in your example. You simply want to know when it is genuine. I hope I am not received in aggression, I simply wish to provide my own context. I am no expert. I also hope you have a wonderful day.

You need a job/extra job, put all your effort towards it. Identify the root where you can convert fear to effort, you can't just remove fear but you can trade it off for effort which is in your control and a choice.

  • This is great for "normal" people in the "normal" world I've inadvertently been practicing this and it works in "normal" situations This would have triggered me into a rage earlier because, I'm living in abject terror and there IS substance to it But when others try to read or listen to anything I say about my situation, they fall into assumptions, minimize the substance to a level they think I should be dealing with and think I'm over exaggerating or attention seeking or or or This idea of r.a.i.n. is great in general But if there is substance, change is needed... I need change but I get ignored So the fear gains MORE substance and no amount of r.a.i.n. will wash that away

    @ShallaRadioLady@ShallaRadioLady4 ай бұрын
    • This is an incredible distinction I wish it was explored more. The fear that Master Shi is describing is more along the lines of anxiety. I believe, however, this technique could be used to be mindful despite fear. It's not the same thing as washing it away, but maybe you can enact change more efficiently? If you are driven by a more logical fear rather than building the extra substance that you are talking about, because at least that has little ground. I am no expert. I hope something changes for you in a positive way +love and respect

What I'm dealing with is more like the extreme expert levels played by folks at specific gaming conventions where they win real world prizes and titles What I've learned through my experiences, I've used to help others along the way but it's very rare to find others who can do the same for me So I have to learn as I go or because I'm kept in extreme isolation, i have to reinvent the wheel, while others have access to the information I'm discovering, through various books, podcasts or other sources

  • Let's help our friends in need. Fear is a powerfull emotion. Its a message from your brain to keep you alive. Fear is run away or fight for your life. Like in the jungle. The times have changed and the survival of the day has changed for many people. But the brain is still programmed the old way. The brain needs to be hypersensitive and carful. All problems must be seen as quick as possible. So we can run away from the tiger and increase our chances. But if there are no more tigers the brain stil is looking for other problems. But there are no real 24/7 death threads anymore. So the brain starts seeing problems were they aren't. And the fear alarm goes off. Adrenaline kicks in and your body is ready to run or fight. But there is no tiger. The Adrenaline needs time to dissolve in the blood and you feel very anxious. It feels like there is a problem because of the Adrenaline but that is just the blood pumping. Understanding this false alarm is the key to calm down again a little faster. Alarm goes off Is there a death thread ? Yes run No, false alarm Smile for the mistake Take some deep breaths Try to distracted your mind with something fun to do. Repeat if it happens again. Your brain will learn that there are no tigers everywhere anymore. It was just a fase alarm in your head.

  • My libgs are getting worse. I am afraid of my impending heart attack. And I want to be peaceful. But when your lungs give out and your heart gives out , who wouldn't be scared of that? Not knowing what the paramedics or ER will do scares me. A heart attack is no peaceful way to pass. Pass. Pray for me people.
