The Expanse - (1/2) Eros: Missile Strike & Roci Chase
Part 1 of 2.
The missile strike on Eros and subsequent chase by The Rocinante. Because of the large quantity of clips edited together here, I've had to omit the Miller arc in this episode, apart from a couple of snippets for context. Otherwise the upload would of been gargantuan in size and instead I focus on scenes in the UN bunker, Tycho Station and The Roci.
Uploaded by request, but I apologise as I have mislaid the username of the requester.
As usual I've created a playlist for these 2 videos to run seamlessly. Link here:

I like when Holden comes on and people in the room give the "oh great, this a#@hole" expression.
Watching it now, I had the exact same thought, word for word.
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls the butterfly
I stomp the caterpillar.
Why did the president say that? That really made no sense in that moment. Did he know something about the deeper nature of the protomolecule?
@@mbaxter22 I think it was about allowing itself to "change", cause in this case, decision was to do, what previously would be just another option dismissed.
Such a great scene! Very well written and executed. We need more shows like this.
This is another example of the show executing the plot better then the book. The more I read of it the more I realize the writers of this show did so good at adapting them that their additions only improve everything they touch. In the books there's no discussion with the UN council or president, it's just a series of messages between Holden and Earth as Holden and the crew were nearly blacking out on sustained high g, not presented as a dilemma it is here. There was also a UN ship tailing the Rocinante, but older and fully crewed they couldn't maintain the same high g burn as the Rocinante and weren't in range.
You are delusional. The books are 10x better than the show and I love the show. It just doesn't compare, they pull far too many TV tropes with the show. The books are just far superior.
@@gupiwa I disagree with you, but somehow don't feel the need to insult you about it. Crazy how being an adult works that way.
Having read the books after, I gotta say I actually like them equally. Considering they went the path of showing more of the political side in the show, I really like this angle and I see why they did it. Partially b/c any reason to put Avasarala on screen with this actress is just necessary... shes brilliant. But I still really like the more personal nature of the convo between Holden and the UN ship commander that tails him in the books. With the delays, threats and confusion they're dealing with as Holden talks to her, waits for her to speak to UN Command, Holden speaks to Fred and everyone trying to figure this out with the delays. Meanwhile in other parts I agree the show improved ex: the railgun strike, the Roci's rescue of Avasarala and Bobby. Fuckin hell I love this story in both mediums lol
@@gupiwathe show does a good job of carrying themes and images in a different medium. I find they do a great job of giving humanity to even the most challenging characters, illustrating just how rare it is to find a black-and-white monster
The intro always reminds me of Mass Effect and I love it b
Humans: Once we master space travel we’ll reach our true potential. Humans in space:
The might of Earth...
Is it just me or the missiles don't actually appear to be launched at 2:30 but kinda fired from mass drivers like rail guns or centrifuges or something?
Yes, the drives ignite after they exit the atmosphere. Or maybe they had a 2nd stage.
The could have been railguned out of the atmosphere. The book mentions that railguns are often used to shoot payloads into orbit.
Yeah Spinlaunch got some pretty interesting contracts in the future.
Rail or spin launch makes perfect sense. Nice detail.
It would make much more sense if the missiles were mass driven out of orbit, considering the fuel requirements for them to not only escape orbit but traverse the solar system to a potential target would be otherwise immense.
2:30 I sure hope I never live to see the day. :P
5:05 I was like, "When did our boy get knighted?" :D And that "And get the secretary a line to the Martian prime minister" had me rolling.
At 2:30, when the missiles get launched from the US, I wonder why Florida is so dark? There's clearly still a tiny bit of light near Orlando, so the entire state hasn't flooded, but I'm confused why Orlando of all places survived...
Those Disney bucks. Perhaps they became an autonomous state :)
climate change devastated earth in the expanse series.
@@langston6882 Yeah, but if Orlando is still there.... it's as low lying as any other place in Florida. Maybe Disney really did build a dyke to protect their, at this point, trillions of dollar investment in hundreds of theme parks. Haha Season passes for those on the dole!
Thanks to Desantis, most of the Corpos abandoned FL alone with their jobs and assets. Lights out might be the deserted Detroit area we see nowadays😂😂
At this point, overpopulation and inaction towards the degrading climate/global environment lead to collapse, sea levels rose and swallowed chunks of land, Earth is a declining planet in this show.
How many missile did they launch in total
150 missiles I think.
More than 2, I think
Enough to destroy an eros sized asteroid
"Yes."
At least 2.
What the hell is this by the way I am watching this high so it is making it really confusing
So why didn't the nukes have a timer on them to prevent them getting captured
No nuke have
@@FedoReds88 no nukes today have such a system but the nukes in the expanse are designed to be fired accrose the solar system and they run a real chance of getting captured or intercepted
@@stalwartteakettlepotato9879 they have stealth tech which is why they are first strike weapons. So they weren’t expecting to be intercepted and also they didn’t have total control because they gave the controls to the station
@@stalwartteakettlepotato9879 The capture was only possible because their drives were shut down via the controls. Controls that were given to Fred Johnson. Otherwise it wouldn't have been possible to capture the missiles with their drive still burning.
@@death_parade and that situation would have been avoided by a simple timer
The hubris of humanity!?
What are you talking about?
This looks really out of sync. Is it just me?
It corrects itself about 2 minutes in
The KZhead compression algorithm often does that.
@@R3dp055um ...why are any of us still on this superfund site?
Dang, Joe Biden does a great performance here - not only one of the best presidents America has ever had, but a wonderful actor too - just like Ronald Reagan!
What?
I’m confused
The bad acting in this show is so disgusting, they ruined a great concept with the worst budget actors ever. it a waste of time
Who specifically do you think is a bad actor here? There's somebody I think is quite poor so I'm wondering if we think the same person.
Who, several actors are highly rated and skilled
