Fabricating Tracks - Tracked Amphibious Vehicle Build Ep. 19
Fabricating tracks completely from scratch for a homemade tracked amphibious vehicle. The track design is very simple. It consists of custom made steel cleats made out of angle iron and round bar and all cleats bolted on two strips of rubbery conveyor belt. I really don't need to worry about the pitch of the cleats since I don't use any drive cogs which teeth they have to match. The tracks will be driven by rubber tires by friction. There is a small lip on the cleat also to better the bite into the tire tread and avoid slippage. Custom bender had to be made for bending the track guides. Also a couple of jigs for welding were constructed.

Appreciate your time putting these videos together , you’re a man of skills👌🏾
You have a well thought out manufacturing system. This makes sense and it's why I enjoy your videos.
Мне кажется машина получится тяжёлая и двигать будет слабый. А так симпатичный аппарат получается... 👍
Так и есть.Смущают самоварные привода ещё,рвануть должны
A great way to kick my weekend off a little early - a video from Donny D!!!
Thanks for watching!
Never ending Originality and workmanship. The jigs you made worked great, had no doubt, look forward to more Donn as the journey continues, Happy New Year !!
I'm getting hooked on your videos, love how you deal with mass production. Compliments and thumbs up on an awesome job. Thanks !
Cheers!
Damn that’s a sweat shop, well done getting through such a repetetive job!
Im impressed. Very keen to see this thing running soon!!!
It is a great shot when you look down the track after it is completed. Nice work!
Good one Donn, it’s really shaping up now, looking forward to the next vlog. Regards John
Mag drill and custom jigs! Awesome! Gettin' 'er dun!
Thanks for sharing always very good 👍🇦🇺🚜
Thank you!
Wow. You are very inspiring. All you fabricate to get to your final result is pretty awesome.
Not sure which I'm liking more... the project, the way you work, watching how your mind works on "fabricating" a jig to make something work. I hope you don't burn yourself out. I've seen many young and older people with ingenious minds burn themselves out. I like the fact you're commenting more in your videos as well. This build is coming along quite nicely. Looking forward to seeing this all up and running. Cheers :)
You definitely have the patience of a saint. Very impressive can't wait to see you in the water.
You are one hell of a machine Donn. Tracks look awesome.
Whew! Well done to you, sir! That was quite a job for one person to get done in only twenty one minutes!! I really like your electromagnetic drill press, too! Those things are awesome. Your skills are to be admired!
Cheers!
Excited for the next vid. 👍
I've been building a machine like this in my head since I was about 10 years old. There it has stayed for 40 years and I think it will remain ! Great job, can't wait to see it go!
It's never too late!
Thank you hard working master Take care be safe
That is the coolest homemade tank track I have ever seen!
Cheers mate!
OMG you are awesome as always. Your videos are always a must watch! Along with garage 54, j mantzel and Kris harbour. Always fun to watch the progress
Holy mother of god.....a 21 and a 1/2 minute video doesn't due justice to how much work this must've taken.
Some might argue with you on that but I think the same as you do. I did a lot more work than only these 21 minutes worth and that is what I want to share with everyone and especially with those who think about making their own tracks.
Following this project is something I look forward to every week, I can totally relate to all the problem solving you have encountered, Super great job your doing on this build 👍👍👍👍👍
I am always proud of humans after watching Donn's videos.
Wow you`ve been busy --Nicely Done , Thanks for translating makes a video so much better.
You are very good, you are organized, careful and informed
Это просто колоссальный объем работы. Моё уважение за такое трудолюбие.
Toujours un magnifique travail !!!! Bravo !!!! Always a wonderful job !!!! Well done !!!!
It's only scrap when it's swarf , great use of materials new and old !!
Well said.
Parabéns Donn, continue firme!
Looking good Donn. Really enjoy your fabrication system and jigs. You keep amazing us as you continue your build. Thanks for sharing with us.
Cheers!
Well thought out track system and assembly process. And the best part? The assembly jigs made from scrap! That's artist level craftsmanship. Looking forward to the next videos and the test run through water!
This track system is not my invention. It is really common on most simple tracked vehicles.
They look GREAT!!
Great work, I'd wondered how the track was going to work. Simple but strong. Great stuff!
That looked like a ton of work. Great results
It was a bit. But all moments were satisfying. 😀
Love the design. Most DIY tankers go all-metal for the tracks and they are difficult to make work reliably. Also the wear rate makes all-metal kind of unfeasable. This is genious!
This design is very old. Not my idea. I just surfed the Internet and copied others. 😄
You sir, are a wizard of metalworking! This whole project of yours was more entertaining than the last Marvel movie
I can understand how you got excited, getting to make tracks! Can't wait to go for a ride!
Absolutely. 😀
Your building of templates to easen your work is amazing
I remember when I made my tracks for my model t snowmobile. Very similar methods. Great Vid.
I can sit all day just to watch your videos.
ingenious and off course a nice Plate on the Trailer (007)!
💪😀
Awesome work! Will soon be ready for a test drive
Let's hope so. I can't wait!
Wow that is fantastic work. I love how you used the round stock as a guide for the wheels i have seen others try but fail with the track. Excellent thought you are the real deal.
Making track guides or tracks this way is nothing new. I really liked the design so I decided to use it for my own tracks too.
Tracks! Awesome sauce.
You are very handy man !!!
Сколько сил, терпения и времени! Простор нет слов, молодчина!!!
You sir are my most favorite KZheadr of all time I've learned so much from you I love everything about everything you do and the way you do it I aspire to work the way you do in my shop
Chuffin nora, been following this. And this is just beyond words. Superb work Donn
Great constructed!
Amazing, it takes intelligence and a lot of skill to do what you are doing but not only that, you make it look easy. That my friend is genius. Look forward to seeing a work of art finished. Best wishes Rich
Nice! I’m at work right now so I’m going to check this out later when I’m done 👍 thanks for posting 🙂
Cheers. Have a great work day!
Donn DIY Man you really got a good assembly line going there! Nice work 👍 I just posted part 2 of my articulating mini 4x4 dump truck build video and I had about 3 comments from people telling me to check out Donn DIY channel 👍 take care
Great job DonnDIY Hopefully the next video will come faster, I can hardly wait

I would say using some 1in (25.4mm) strap to make the "washers" and have it the length of one side (so its just one wide washer with the 2 whole in it) would work a treat, but my god drilling the holes would bout drive a man crazy lol. Nice work good sir.
Yes, that would be ideal. That's what I had in mind.
Most underrated DIY youtuber. Love your videos! ❤️
Nice 👍👍👍
What a nice design!
Love the use of jigs to ease mass production, really looking forward to future episodes on this thing!
Couldn't do without jigs. No way. Would take a lot of time, even for me. 😄
Good job 🇺🇸
Well done. You should be proud
Awesome. Best track design i have seen! Also... thanks for all the detail on the jigs. Enjoy your work. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I'm very cold watching you work. Nice tools! I like your milling machine.
Not knowing the kind of job you perform, now this is some great fabbing work, I like the way you make jigs so everything comes out looking the same, thanks again for sharing your great videos and work :)
A tip for doing productions type work like cutting the guides and angle for the track pads. When cutting, if your saw is able to handle thicker material, cut the main piece into half or quarters and cut 4 at a time. It will make the job of cutting much more efficient than just doing one at a time.
Pretty, pretty, good :) Srsly, good production, workflow, & execution. Good job
Those are amazing brother WOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! You are talented bro. Cant wait to see the finished ATV
Master fabricator! 👍👍👍👍👍
Great job looks amazing
Your a beast! I would have tapped out on those track cleats about 1/2 way through.
Damn.!!..youre f* in' workaholic..great job Donn..just wait for your next vid..

wow you have been busy. on to some home made ATV tracks
Wow its awesome 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Yet another great video! Keep them coming!
Amazing job!
Making tracks... most mundane part of the job lol. Great job!
Pretty good!
Yeah, that was amazing. Tracks look so uniform. I still don't fully understand how they will stay straight but guess that will be more apparent in a later video. Like many others said I also thought the jigs were very cool.
You mean how will they not lean on the sides and drop off? The tracks will be held on with tension so the tracks are stretched on, thus they'll be straight.
You continue to amaze and inspire me, thx sir!
Thanks for tuning in!
