All in all regardless of what was or wasn't said, an Umpire should have more grace and class. Words are words. What you do with them is up to you. I've been called all kinds of racial slurs, but did I get bent out of shape and go after someone? Nope. I laughed, looked at them like they were dumb, and went about my business.

  • This was a clear case of Ump with a major attitude. You can see he was the one leaning in screaming at Tucker Nathans when he was just trying to plead his case to the Home Plate Ump.. I've seen so many players flip out but Nicholson doesn't belong on the field. Umps are not supposed the be "part of the show" but some do their best to make themselves a big part of it. Over the top strikeout calls, antagonizing players to the point they lose their cool and then get tossed. the MLB has some serious Umps with issues that push the limits. On a side note, I didn't expect to hear the name Pete Incaviglia at the 9:15 mark when I started watching this, a flashback to his playing days crossed my mind. Glad to see he's still part of the game.

The ump SHOULD NOT have touched him. But Nathan's and the other 42 should have both been thrown from the game. Officials need to be held more accountable for bad calls. Good lord, not every overreaction to every situation has something to do with race. Since you clearly just take things at face value and didn’t check further into this before you commented your absolute trash comment, the umpire approached the bench because of use of an iPad, which was completely legal for the players to have, and didn’t like that the players challenged his authority! This happened in August of last year just so you’re aware. So no, racial slurs were not the cause of this, fragile egos by all of the “adults” there is what caused this and the biggest fragile ego belonged to the umpire who was wrong in the first place.

  • My guess looking at this video at the half way point is the commissioner of this league is trying to determine if Nicholson (the umpire) should still be in this game since he was the one who initiated contact with the player. If a player contacts an umpire then it’s an automatic ejection for the player.

    @DJDOGG31@DJDOGG312 ай бұрын
    • But the player was already ejected. If he had left there wouldn't have been a problem. If he had let the first base umpire walk away and then talk to the lead umpire none of this would have happened.

    • @@CptColumboproblem is the player ejection was wrong. Why is it placed upon the victim to just walk away and suffer the consequences. Obviously this ump couldn't control himself on that day.

    • @@hyperkoala1758 When has yelling at the umpire ever lead to overturning the decision. If he had waitied for the other umpire to be walked away and then discussed it with the plate ump, it might have worked out for all parties involved. He decided to be aggressive and was suprised when it was met with aggression.

      @DJDOGG31@DJDOGG312 ай бұрын
    • @@DJDOGG31 Not at all. Does being ejected from a game give a player permission to attack an umpire? Of course not. What would have happened if the other players hadn't held him back? If a player or manager doesn't leave and continues to act aggressively towards the Umpire (waving thier arms around and needing to be held back by another player) they shouldn't be suprised if it's returned on them by the target of their anger. Does it mean what the Umpire did was okay? No. But the context is important.

  • So just exactly what went down

    @ThreePhaseHigh@ThreePhaseHigh2 ай бұрын
    • It started with accusations of in-game cheating by the Tri-City Valley Cats' manager, who happened to be former MLB player Pete Incaviglia. Incaviglia accused the New York Boulders' team of stealing signs using the centerfield video camera, so the instructions were to turn off that particular camera. That is what started it. What this then picks up was the 1st-base Umpire Warren Nicholson ordered someone in the Boulders' dugout to turn off a league-approved tablet - I guess like an iPad or a Microsoft Surface - that players use to study how plays evolve. The league approves of the tablets because they are supposed to show parts of the game that have already taken place, not what IS taking or is ABOUT to take place, and no one can accuse anyone of cheating then. But Nicholson wanted the tablet to be remove from the dugout, and the argument between Nicholson and Tucker ensued.....

  • I find it hard to believe this was all over the use of an iPad. They said the ump and player had words a previous game. That Tucker kid got ejected (just after striking out) and remained on the field, chasing after the ump. And the ump was about as mad as I’ve ever seen one. To the point where someone called the crew and made the umpire leave the game. The Tucker guy who got ejected never even left the field. No matter what the reason is, if you get ejected you’re gone. You don’t get to stand around causing chaos for 20 minutes after. I’m pretty sure this is a “fuck Tucker” situation. He just looks like he’d be annoying.

    • You still don't get to punch him in the gut. And you definitely don't need to start jumping in everyone's faces while they're not even talking to you. He should have let the home plate ump handle it. Instead, he kept escalating and making things worse for his own crewmate who was trying to regain control of the situation, but failing because of the first base ump undermining him. Ump had to go.
