  • Those lead plates still look to be in excellent condition. Water would have probably been enough with a graduated trickle charge lasting a few weeks. A cheap solar charge controller (with 20 watt or more solar panel) will charge any lead acid at 1/10 of a volt more than whatever the battery is currently holding. Modern solar battery maintainers that are low watt and close to 20 volts in full sun are too high voltage and won't work: they are basically worthless. Solar panels used to have lower voltage back 30 years ago or so, but improvement in technology was made and voltage was raised. Great for use with a charge controller and inverter, but not good for 12 volt trickle panel.

  • My personal opinion and I may be wrong. The distilled water in the battery had dried out. That's why very little liquid came out. I would have added a little distilled water to submerge the plates, and then charge the battery. If lucky, it would work.

  • Just because the bulb has turned on does not mean that the battery is working. It should simultaneously measure the voltage and observe the voltage drop for at least 5 minutes. I believe that after this time the bulb would no longer light.

  • That's a fascinating video. A lot of effort. A new motorcycle battery in the USA is about $70. So, you saved ... $70 - (cost of epoxy, acid, etc, value of your time). I'll buy a new one. You may want to hang out by a store that sells batteries and intercept the customers bringing in old batteries to get their "core charge" refunded. Buy those ($10 for MC battery; $15 for car battery) and do your magic and resell them. Thanks again, always wanted to know what's in one of those lead acid batteries.

I cannot see ANY practicality in doing this. I do not have the time to waste screwing with a dead battery, and NO ONE would very pay me to do this to their battery.
