Ghostbusters was a massive success in 1984, but it took more than half a decade for the world to get a second one! Why? I don’t know. That information is probably available on Google. Reasons, presumably.
Ghostbusters 2 definitely raises some questions. Like did they just redo every beat of the first movie but slightly different? Is Venkman even a Ghostbuster or are we just following his love life? And most importantly, how did everyone forget that ghosts exist?!
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Ghostbusters 2!

If they phrased or explained it differently like they do not officially declare ghosts as currently existing since Dozer was defeated then that plot point could have made more sense at least.

It might have made more sense if Viggo had used his ghost magic to make everyone forget about the events of 5 years prior in order to proceed with his plans.
And the reason the ghosts disappeared was because he was harnessing all their ectoplasmic energy, reducing them to slime, to fuel his magic?

They could have made Dana being targeted again make sense by having Viggo want Oscar because Dana was possessed by Zuul, which would somehow heighten his powers after being reborn. "Bring me the child of the mother blessed by Gozer."

@@SupremeGreatGrandmaster Thanks!
If Akyroid and Ramis had managed to get their original intentions for a third movie script into production, I think it was supposed to hint that Dana was actually a blood descendent of Ivo Shandor (the architect of the Gozer building), which helps explain why these malevolent paranormal entities are attracted to her.

To be fair, they did set up the ability to control the statue of liberty when they showed the toaster dancing to happy music earlier in the movie.
Yeah this is the sloppiest pitch meeting I’ve ever seen. Usually all his points are right on the money but so many are off here. He totally half assed this one. Like the whole “aren’t they famous from the first movie” when the movie totally shows they are still famous! The opening scene has them at a birthday party. Crowds cheering for them at court. Just because a few characters don’t recognize them or don’t believe in ghosts doesn’t mean EVERYONE feels that way. Think of the world we live in. There are plenty of great moments in GB II. That court room scene with Rick Moranis as their lawyer is priceless. Far, far better than 2016 and those recent ones with the non-binary girl.

It's worse than that, they say repeatedly that the anger of New Yorkers CREATED the slime. So you've got the classic chicken and egg scenario. Did anger create the slime or did slime create the anger?
The slime is supposed to be magical. It performs miracles. Summoning ghosts, making people angry, making people euphoric, making a toaster dance, animating the statue of liberty, defeating a wizard, changing a painting, those are all miracles. @@jeremyf9124 In a deleted scene in the psych ward, a patient there mentions that he read the book about predicting the end of the world. @4:03 well they sprayed a toaster earlier with positive slime, and when they played music it began to dance, so that's how they knew it would work on the Statue of Liberty too. Now...how they knew they could CONTROL it with a damn NES Power Stick is something I can't tell you lol
Just want to point out somewhere, it's not that they spray it, it's that they drop a dollop of slime into the toaster. And apparently the toaster *manifests* toast that it shoots out. As for the NES controller, I'm inclined to say it's about intent, and just giving the slime something to perceive from the person using the controls.

"So does the slime make people angry, or summon ghosts?" "Yes!" LOL!
I'm still astonished by the fact that they had Vigo kidnap this particular baby, and never once came up with a reason why no other baby would do. What's especially astonishing is that given that his mother was possessed, made out with Louis while possessed, then turned into a demon-dog, then back again, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to come up with a reason for this baby to be the one picked. Just say the baby was altered by the paranormal incident his mom experienced, so it has special qualities other babies don't. Boom. Solved. Also, the Scolari brothers reminded me of Waldorf and Statler for some reason.
Louis and Dana could've conceived the baby when they were Terror Dogs. (They'd have to change it so the movie takes place not too long after the first one instead of five years, or just have Oscar be five.) There's even a deleted scene from the first movie where Louis asks Dana if they "did it" when they were both dogs. Dana tells him "no", but she could've been lying.
@@KasumiKenshirou In fact, it would have been in-character for her to lie about something like that. I agree that would have been an even stronger connection, though as you point out, they'd have to change the timeline a tad to make it work. If Oscar had (sort of) been the child of Vinz Clortho and Zuul, it would explain why any other paranormal entity would want to get ahold of him.
The first Ghostbusters is super good but also somehow underrated despite its already popular. This is a movie as well.
The sewer scene with all the heads on sticks scared the CRAP out of me as a kid! ... low key still does
The Titanic scene for me
@ncapone87 that was a pretty chilling scene too! ... oh what about the minks on that lady's fur coat coming back to life and hissing at her?!
Definitely. Everything down in the tunnels was pretty creepy
"5 years is a long time, sir. People forget stuff." Was at an event last thursday that seemed to have completely forgotten covid ever happened because there was zero consideration for personal space or social distancing in the way it was set up.
I wish you posted more pitch meetings But you have a life besides the Ryanverse so... I just can't get enough of pitch meetings
Hot take: this is one of the most underrated sequels in cinema history.
This was one of the most sequels in cinema history.
I saw this movie before the first one when I was a kid and I love it. For nostalgia reasons, I prefer this over the first
I think it topped the first in many ways. So underrated
It may not be as quotable as the first one but I also prefer this one. I can’t help but love the Statue of Liberty section. That music is so upbeat and positive. I adore it. On a side note, I had NEVER before noticed that the ghost nanny was also Peter MacNicol! (He is also part of why I love this movie.)
I am glad you made this Pitch Meeting because when I was a teenager and originally saw the movie in the theater, I was so upset by that garbage. People hated the 2016 movie, but the IP had already been ruined!
I would like you to do a Pitch Meeting where you revisit a pitch meeting you just did. Like, next week, look back at this video and determine what you'd do differently with the experience you've gained since you made the original.
Ngl, Annie Potts/Janine in this movie awoke something in young me
“So, you wanna play Boggle or Super Marry-O Brothers?”
@@jeremyf9124 At least he said "Brothers" and not "Bros" like millennial and zoomer KZheadrs do. They don't understand how abbreviations work.
