  • Just a note. When attaching a leader to fly line, put the fly line loop through the leader loop, then pull the leader through the fly line loop. This will give you a connection that’s a bit more forgiving on your fly line loop.

    @KingdomSamurai@KingdomSamurai4 жыл бұрын
    • Agreed. The way he did it will cut the rough the loop in that fly line real quick. Ask me how I know lol

    • Yes, I really hope any beginners out there see this comment, this is a very basic mistake it will ruin the loop in your fly line. Additionally this double nymph rig is a terrible recomendation for someone who is a total beginner. By the time you are ready to cast something like this you should already know all the basic connections he covers in this video. There are certainly more knowledgable people to learn from on youtube.

  • For new flyfisherman: The preferred method for the loop to loop connection of your leader/flyline is to insert the flyline loop through the leader loop, and then the rest of the leader through the flyline loop. The result should look a bit like a square knot. Otherwise, fine tutorial.

  • Hello from 🇨🇦 I hope you are well and safe with your family. I stumbled upon this channel, probably because I search out fly fishing enough I was bound to run across you. Your presentation is very, very good! You give clear instructions and you don't waste words. Well done. Now I have been buggering around with flies since 1969 and as I got older I realized I will never learn everything. Case in point, your video here. I grew up fishing in British Columbia Canada. We can only fish a single fly. I found myself in Alberta, where people generally fish three nymphs under an indicator. I had no idea about tying up multi-fly rigs so a couple of guys showed me and I have fished that way for a few years now. They do the first fly through the eye then each successive fly is tied into the bend of the previous hook. Heavy fly at the top thought sometimes I reverse it. I never liked this method but I stuck with it. I caught 90% of my fish on the trailer, I wonder why. So I watched this video and I really like the method you use. I will try it and let you know, once the ice is gone! I look forward to catching up on your educational series, you never stop learning right! Stay safe down there!

  • Nice vid! Might have an improved connection of leader to fly line if you put the fly line through the loop of the leader, then feed the end of the leader through the fly line loop. Creates the typical handshake connection that results in less hingeing.

    @gabraham21@gabraham21 Жыл бұрын
  • Question: Is there a good rigging system that makes it easy to switch between nymph and dry that doesn't take tons of work? When a hatch is going you want to get into that party as fast as possible. I would love some information on rigs that can breakdown and set up easy without going through yards and yards of line and leader. I've been fly fishing a few years now and the way I learned to set up my nymph rig is with using tags about 8" apart about 12" above the bottom of the line and then putting a split shot at the very end of the line. This has helped me with getting to the bottom of channels without risking my flies. If I get caught in the rocks, some vegetation, or sticks, I only lose my split shot and can quickly load another one on and get right back in. Flies cost too much or take too long to make to lose a bunch to the river. The problem is when I switch over to dry fly because of a hatch, I have to undo all the work it takes to set up my nymph rig and, vice versa, I have to redo all the work when hatch dies and I go back to nymphing.

  • Good info. I like to run palomar knot to first fly then improved clinch to second then about 12” of leader to 2nd flys shank then put my split all the way at the bottom. Casts easier and also forces the nymphs to “swim” in a realistic direction.
