ISIS-K Moscow attacks - who is at risk? | DW News Desk
Islamic State, a group that once sought control over parts of Iraq and Syria, has claimed responsibility for Friday's mass shooting at a concert hall near Moscow that killed at least 139 people. U.S. officials have said they have intelligence indicating it was the Afghan branch, Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), that was responsible. The Islamic State once sought control over swathes of Iraq and Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack.
ISIS-K grabbed global attention with a 2021 suicide bombing on Kabul international airport during the U.S. military withdrawal that killed 13 U.S. soldiers and scores of civilians. In September 2022, it claimed responsibility for a deadly suicide attack at the Russian embassy in Kabul.
But perhaps its most brazen operation to date came in January, with a double suicide bombing in Iran that killed nearly 100 people at a memorial for Revolutionary Guard commander, Qassem Soleimani - the deadliest militant attack on Iranian soil since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

It's interesting that Russia has yet to explain this internal security lapse for such a large scale attack, just like with Wagner uprising.
As for why Russia, I remember asking why the Philippines, when ISIS captured the town of Marawi, and the army fought for months to retake it back in 2017 (a battle barely covered by Western media). There is, indeed, a lot going on that doesn't figure into Western concerns and narratives.

I did not knew that the US wants to overthrow Germany, UK, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Indonesia, and the Filipines. These all had ISIS terror attacks.

Thank you DW for covering this important tragedy. You may want to include a report that I have seen a few months ago by a foreign reporter (I believe he is European, but do not remember his name), he had gone to Afghanistan and arranged for a secret interview with ISIS-K leader inside Afghanistan. Clearly, these terrorists are unbalanced. As far as I know the Khorasan territory that they are referencing may have existed when the Iranian tribes were arriving from Europe to settle those areas, which is about 4000BC, before even Judaism, Christianity and definitely Islam was in in existence! If there was any formal Khorasan province in those times (I believe in the beginning those times the area was called Bactria Margiana (BMAC civilization)) the area would have nothing to do with Islam. Khorasan is an an Aryan (Avestan) word and certainly Arabic speakers of Islam would not name their territory by an alien Indo-European name. Iran became a Zoroastrian nation at around 1750BC! So, Obviously, ISIS needs an anthropology, linguistic and history lesson, and they should cut down on smoking the stuff their leader has been blowing up their you know what, so they cut down on all these uneducated stuff they are regurgitating 😊
All of ISIS-K attacks are suicide bombers, with intention of martyrdom. These were 4 paid men who intended to escape. Doesn't that seem odd to you? That the one who claim it are known for suicide bombers but the attackers were paid and they don't know who by. Why is ISIS-K claiming the attack but the attackers aren't in ISIS-K.

Interesting scholarly discussion, but they are all the same. There are no moderates or none with secular leaning, no one tolerant of other religions, what is seen is religious malignancy of extreme form. Therefore IS, IS-K, assorted Talibans, Hamas, Bokoharam, Hizbul Mujahideen and a motley crowd of jihadists around the world, they are all the same with complete mobility between the groups and countries. They pose immense danger to world peace, particularly to those countries who let them in illegally or unwisely through asylum programs to appease bogus human rights activists who actually are front of the terrorists.
