People who feed bears are putting others at risk, because it makes the bears less afraid of people and more likely to attack someone, and considering how bold they’re being trying to get inside homes, there should absolutely be a steep fine for the very ignorant people feeding them.

  • I have a property in northern california and I appreciate the wild life and all but the bear encounters are crazy. I've had them break into my home numerous times because theres a old lady neighbor who feed the bears. Shes been feeding them for 20 years apparently. I was told she would go hiking and drop food into random areas and makes a trail back to her home. She loves bears and all wildife apparently. I got so sick and tired of the break ins that I filed a complaint against her. She was not too happy about that and insisted shes gonna keep doing it. I told her, dont mind me and my hunter buddies then because we will be waiting on my porch with tags ready to go. She opted to pay for fencing material and labor with electric fence equipment running all the way thru as she's a multi millionaire. Apparently she was a trust fund baby. But yea as long as I dont hurt the bear. I happily agreed. She fenced up over 4acres worth 😂. Shes happy and I'm happy, end of story. And it was not my offer, it was her idea.

Early 1900s Barnum and Bailey Circus sourced their circus bears from this area. Grizzley bears were hunted to extinction in the area 100 years ago as well. This isn't a "problem". This is natural populations rising back to natural levels. The question should be who moved into who's neighborhood?

Bears are naturally afraid of humans and their structures and have to learn over time that these are safe places for them to go and eat. It's one thing to be nice to wildlife but it's another to encourage behavior like this which ultimately will usually result in the death of the animal.

  • I found that little marine or stadium air horns worked beautifully for chasing away bears. They ran for their freakin lives. The racoons just looked slightly annoyed and didn't give a flip, but the horns often scared the turds out of bears.

  • We have the Black Bear on the State flag in California for a reason! They used to be everywhere and then the population was almost decimated. That they are back like this is a blessing. These people should move out of bear territory or learn how to co-exist. That one dude needs to clean up his house (looks like a hoarder) and then maybe the bears wouldn't come in!

  • I am from CA. Reagan as Gov had things better - he had logging companies working in the forests to clear out dead trees and bad areas, this stopped massive fires, kept people working and brought in taxes. Once he was gone Brown was Gov and the environmentalists got their way and no logging, but more mass fires, more wind and solar power, more people in all areas and less attempt to stop animals.
