The scam was about bail money. Some people have suggested the scammers said they were cops telling him it wouldn't matter if he called them and, being cops, it would be easy to make good on their threats.

Very possibly an overseas scam. I hope they find them, but possibly not. These scams are occuring all the time. Some scams even have voice recording of loved ones ( from cell phones) to carry out the scam. Call the police if you get a call. Try to get callback number from the scammer.

There is the bad guy (The person that made the phone calls that set this tragedy into motion) playing on the old man's fears and uncertainty of a loved one being threatened for ransom. There's the victim that became the bad guy (The old man with the gun) who, as I said before was acting out of fear and uncertainty over what he perceived as a treat to a loved one, who should've called the police instead of pulling his gun on an innocent woman making him a murderer. And the true victim made pawn (The female Uber driver) who was shot in cold blood. I am not excusing what the old man did, because the moment he went after the woman when she was trying to leave, it was not self defense or anything altruistic, but murder. However, the real bad guy at the forefront of all this is the caller, and I hope the police will do everything possible to find him and bring him to justice for his actions. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Chances are they won't, they probably use the Uber as a money mule, who will then unsuspectingly, drop it off to an address where the package will be stolen and then shipped, or the shipment address, is that of another money mule. I doubt the ladder.

The gun owner/shooter/killer should have known she was not there to rob him. Like you said, she could barely move at a brisk pace. The fact that she was retreating as he brandished is revolver and walked her past her vehicle was striking imagery. She didn’t have a weapon and she was pleading for her life. I understand people saying the person that called Uber should be held accountable, but most of the posts on here reference that person and that person only. The man with the gun, who lied to police is the murderer.

Accused because the legal process has yet to happen, thus "innocent until proven guilty". However, in court, I'd wager his lawyer will argue that being old, being pursued in a scam, etc. is a reason against the accusation of murder. I'd wager he'll get a 2nd degree murder charge personally though. It's not pre-meditated, and even if he is senile, he shouldn't have a gun if he's not mentally capable of proper use. Thus, regardless how you feel, he wrongfully took a life. We'll see how the courts play out though.

A lot of people seem to forget that anyone accused of crime is presumed innocent until proven beyond a reasonable doubt to be guilty in a court of law. Even in cases where it is as obvious as what we see here, there is still a process that must be followed.
