Motion Boardshop is a Seattle Based Snowboard, Longboard, Skateboard shop. We are what people refer to as a "core" shop, which just means that we actually snowboard, not just talk about it. All 3 of our employees snowboard, and skateboard. Did we mention that we are a small shop? If you like to shop small, or support local, you couldn't find a better spot, and we have been shipping gear out worldwide since before instagram existed. • Thanks for the video, great input for a great snowboard! I would like to swap my biddings on my Shadowban 157 since I don't enjoy boardfeel & ankle strap of my current bataleon astro asym bindings. I'm having my eyes on ride A-6 or ride A-9 model 2024 on sales now. I was thinking going for A-9 as more premium option but wonder if A-9 would be too stiff? I also found A-8 highbacks not very good looking as personal preference and not convince with that flip strap. Since you've been riding A series for a while, what would you recomment to match my Ride Fuse boots size 9.5 with that Shadowban? I ride mostly resorts on piste, side hits, no park, enjoy carving and sometimes charging on uneven bumby snow as well. I'm 180lbs. Thanks a lot!

  • Love this board....like many, my only complaint is the topsheet which chips like its made of eggshells. I have boards that are 6 years old that I've ridden aggressively off-piste with less wear around the topsheet edges than my Shadowban after a handful of rides on hardpack groomers

  • Hey wanted your guidance on snowboard length. I’m looking at the spring break resort twin in 156 or 158. My stats are 6’2”-3” 180-185lbs size 10.5 boots. Out in the Midwest and not a euro carver more flat ground and playful type of riding parks, side hits. What size do you recommend. I’m on a 156 proto slinger right now and have been skateboarding for 20 plus years.

  • recently bought the shadowban as my first board as it had so many good reviews and i wanted a really good all round board. I would class myself as intermediate but not amazing. I like using mine its super fun. I have only used it like 2 times totalling around 6 hours so far and have noticed some of the black matte finish around some of the top side edges to have chipped off? is this normal and should i be disgruntled about seeing this after only about 5-6 hours of use? Nothing majorly big but noticeable if looking at it up close.. Also, ive never seen those plates you have stuck on your board either side of the hourglass? what are they and what are they for? Thanks in advance, great review video and footage shown!

    • The topsheet of a snowboard will get scuffed up, especially if you are riding it in crowded lift lines, transporting the board in a rocket box, or loading the chair lift in a scissor fight situation(goofy on the left, regular on the right) if you mix the goofy and regular riders the boards will typically bonk into eachother when everyone sits down. I would not be too worried about it if it is a little scuff on the edges, but if it is a big chunk and you can see a piece lifting, i would get it fixed with some epoxy and a clamp. Sometimes that stuff happens. The little spiked plates on either side of the hourglass are called a stomp pad. It is a fancy sticker with a textured top that allows for a grippy surface on the top of the board so that when you are getting off the chairlift you have more traction for your back foot. www.motionboardshop.com/search?q=stomp+pad

  • I own one and love it. I didn't bring it to Japan when i went to the resorts in late December. Fully regret it, i rented boards for 6/7 days. I was there partially trying different boards out, as much fun as I was having and every time I was riding a new board, I thought my Shadownban would have been amazing. My question is, when you say good in powder, does that mean, ok. Or it can charge? Because I experience all different boards, and the one that i could charge, and smash side hits confidently were really hard flex,obviously. But they were no fun for broader freestyle riding. The board that was the most balanced for me was a Jones MTN Twin. Comparing to a jones mtn twin, would you say the shadowban is a better choice for all mountain, with Japow, freestyle/freeride and park, jibs and jumps? Because i'm deciding if I want to buy a salomon Dancehaul pro, or take my shadownban there next time and keep it there as my Japow board.

    @DVerdict@DVerdict2 ай бұрын
    • A lot of that comes down to what size you are compared to the size of the board. I would say that the shadowban would be good in Japan, but I would probably ride it in the 164w instead of the 160w for additional surface area. The reason the board does ok in powder is because of the rockered nose and tail, but I would agree that a stiffer board is typically going to charge through powder more. I would say that a Jones Mountain Twin would be stiffer than a shadowban. The dancehaul Pro looks very sick and should be stiff enough to really charge in powder.

  • Hey mate, Awesome review - appreciate it! My local store has some awesome sales on the C-8 and C-6 bindings, could you please advise which one you'd recommend to pair up with the Shadowban? I do a bit of everything (groomers, park, pow) and want something versatile but also that allows me to get better at carving and jumps/rails. I've heard the C-8 is a bit softer and versatile than the A-8 (and the reversible ankle strap on the C-8 would give flexibility to change it up to match what I'm doing on the day).

    • @@awe_full I prefer the flex of the C6 and find it to be plenty stiff enough for the shadowban. I am currently running the A6 on the board. I have replaced the bindings with the new A6 (it is just more black in the colorway, and I am mildly vain.) The c6 should be awesome, but if the deal is really good then the C8 would be also perfectly acceptable on that board. I personally do not like the c8 strap that much, and find it to be very restrictive and stiff, and I find that the c6 strap is a little wider and a little more flexible with the 2 part strap construction. Which helps to spread out the load over the top of the boot with the wider strap, as well as 2 piece strap has more flexibility towards the edges which feels better for rough snow and landings.

  • A lot of people like the Shadowban and your review really helps to pinpoint why it is so good. Have you had a chance to ride the new K2 bindings? I know you were a fan of the Formula and it seems they improved on that design. Also curious about sizing changes. My 9.5 Ride Fuse was a tad heel heavy in my Large Formulas, but a size medium Edition might be perfect.

    @user-lb9du4vt6x@user-lb9du4vt6x2 ай бұрын
    • The Shadowban is very versatile. The new K2 bindings are very cool and they are focusing on some environmentally sustainable stuff, but that is definitely some "green" stuff that really doesnt make the binding ride better. What makes the new bindings ride better are the new lower chasis, strap package, as well as the High-back now has a forward lean adjuster on it instead of the adjustment being in the side of the chasis. The ones that I have inthe shop are the K2 Edition, which is a very cool binding, and I would say is essentially 10% better than the formula. I have always thought that the Formula is a no nonsense binding with a great feel, and has pretty much everything you need. The new bindings are more expensive, and it seems like a lot of the reason is because the bindings are made with more recycled materials, and castor beans. I have historically been pretty suspicious of 'enviromentally sustainable" products in regards to snowboards and longboards. Typically either the performance is lessened, or the price goes up. In the case of the new K2 bindings the price went up, but the quality is still there. As far as the new sizing it is inline with what ride has been doing with their new bindings. If you are a 9.5 ride boot the size medium K2 bindings would be a good choice. Sidenote: I have been riding mostly Ride bindings for the last 3 years, specifically the A-series bindings. The reason why is the similar straps to the Formula, similar adjustability, as well as a movable heelcup which allows you to center the boot over the snowboard more easily. If you are looking, the Ride A-4 is essentially a Formula, and the A-6 is an Edition. Even though the binding is Aluminum it is lighter in weight, and has more dampening than the C-series bindings, and in my humble opinion should be more expensive then their prices are listed as.

      @MotionBoardshop@MotionBoardshop2 ай бұрын
    • @@MotionBoardshop Thank you for the response Nate! I agree that "green washing" products is a mixed bag and all of K2's marketing for the new bindings focused on the environmental aspect with nothing about performance. I am guessing their team played a role in development, so it would be cool to hear from them on what changes they wanted and why they didn't do any new Tripod bindings. I really want to try Ride's updated aluminum chassis. I had Preston's years ago and a few different EX/LX models over the years. Always loved them, but hardware seemed to come loose often. I am assuming the plastic puck will alleviate that. Next years A8 looks nice with the highback change. When will we see more Nate Hates reviews :)

      @user-lb9du4vt6x@user-lb9du4vt6x2 ай бұрын
    • Those tripod bindings were so cool, and they rode so well, but I think that level of customization went over the top of most peoples head. I was listening to the bombhole podcast and there were definitely some upgrades for the new bindings that they had made based on rider feedback, and I would say that the new ankle strap mounting positioning has changed and is now higher up on the binding which moves some of the pressure points, and the mounting position is now more adjustable as well. I think that this is one of the main riding/performance differences in terms of comfort, and with the new sizing I think that this binding will offer a different fit and comfort experience compared to the older models and size ranges. from the shop perspective, the old size range of 8-12 on the old Formula was awesome, because this binding fits on the majority of boots we would sell. @@user-lb9du4vt6x

  • I saw your two reviews on the Ride Algorhythm and Shadowban and struggling between the two. I am looking for a one board to do it all when flying to resorts in CO and UT. Mostly ride groomers, powder when it is there, and trying to expand into park jumps. Also sizing is throwing me off. I am similar to you 6'1" 220 - 230 lbs. size 10. You have the Algorhythm in 164w and Shaowban in 160w. I assume that is because you have two and the Shadowban smaller for freestyle and Algo bigger to charge with. • What do you think about this or your algorithm compared to the berzerker?

    @evanjohnson1740@evanjohnson17402 ай бұрын
    • The berzerker is basically an algorhythm with taper, and more camber in the tail. If you are more of a directional rider, that spends less time switch, and rides less rails, and prefer a board with more bite in the tail and a slightly stiffer flex than a shadowban the berzerker is the way to go. My previous everyday board before the shadowban was the old berzerker that was not tapered. I might get a berzerker next year because I like that board so much, but the taper on the berzerker is more powerful and useful in the allmountain category, but a little less forgiving in the slow speed park riding category. Ultimately a great board the berzerker is, and would be very similar to a shadowban, but it has the camber all the way to the tail, a slightly stiffer tail than a shadowban, a small taper, and a slightly stiffer overall flex which give the berzeker more directional float, a more locked in edge hold, and a snappy powerful pop.

      @MotionBoardshop@MotionBoardshop2 ай бұрын
    • @MotionBoardshop I've had my berzerker for 2 seasons now and it's my all mountain do anything deck. I'm 6'2 220lb with a size 11 boots. I have ride c9 on it and you described it exactly ad it rides. Im a directional bomber but it's by far the easiest turning deck I've ever ridden. If it was a touch wider I think it would be perfect. I do live the taper and stiff tail for steeps at stevens or crystal. Does the algorithm turn as easily as the berzerker?

      @evanjohnson1740@evanjohnson17402 ай бұрын
    • @@evanjohnson1740 I like the waist widths better on the shadowban/algorhythm. The boards have pretty different sidecuts. The berzerker should be ashamed of itself for the waist widths provided in the "wides" that they offer. If the 160 berzerker had a 264mm waist width and the bigger sizes were in the 267mm range I would likely be riding a berzerker. The berzerker has a quicker turning sidecut in the nose and tail, and a wider sidecut underfoot, which helps with stability when the board is not heavily on edge, but when the board is rolled over onto edge, the sidecut really starts to activate and make the board come around quicker, so it has that nice snappy exit out of the carve, and a great initiation. berzerker has roughly a 5 meter sidecut in the nose and tail, and an 8meter sidecut between the bindings. the algorhythm/shadowban has roughly a 9 meter sidecut in the nose and tail, and a 7 meter sidecut between the bindings. This gives the algorhythm/shadowban a more forgiving high speed edge hold, and a more responsive lowspeed agility. I would say that they turn differently for different reasons, but I will say that the algorhythm/shadowban have a more forgiving sidecut that feels more manage-able in tighter steeper terrain for agility and control, and the berzerker has a more responsive sidecut for a better rider who can get the board quickly onto edge, but with slightly less agility because of the 8meter sidecut between the feet. If you are a quality rider you can make both boards turn well the berzerker has more "range" in the types of turn shapes that it can make. I know it seems like some real gear nerd stuff, but the sidecut dimensions between the two boards you asked about are very usable for both riders, but they offer something different. I would say that the algorhythm is probably a solid choice for what you might enjoy based on your desire for a wider board, and a love of the berzerker. If you like the Berzerker and how it turns, stay away from the deepfake or the moderator. Those boards are Stiff Missles with big wide open sidecuts. They really only like to go super fast, and be incredibly stable at those speeds. If I rode Crystal more often and wanted a board to ride that would rip the fabric of space and time apart and still be stable while doing it look at those. They are not playful or forgiving, but I assume when i ride those boards, it has to feel the exact same way that THOR feels when he flys around holding onto the hammer. (mjolnir)

      @MotionBoardshop@MotionBoardshop2 ай бұрын
    • I appreciate your technical knowledge in this area and how you can pick the two boards apart and why I feel the berzerker rides the way it does. I bought a Flagship 165W to hit places that are wide open like Crystal and got to 50mph bombing little portillo and just riding it like a Cadillac off of forrest queen. That sidecut which is like 9+ makes you really work for it in steep terrain. I took it down the tree portion of wild cats doing all pivot turns on that terrain which was by far the gnarliest steep trees on a board that large. I am guessing that the deepfake rides similar to the sidecut of the flagship.

      @evanjohnson1740@evanjohnson17402 ай бұрын
    • @@evanjohnson1740 Oh dam! you got a Flagship! That is the board I had when I had a Crystal pass, and I feel that Crystal Mountain was made for the flagship. The moderator is less maneuverable than the flagship, with more camber, less rocker, and a 10 meter sidecut depending on the size. Also the Sidecut is not a quadratic sidecut (different turn radius in different parts of the board. The Moderator has a Single Radius (radial) sidecut which means its going to turn the same shape regardless of the edge angle. They call it a linear quadratic sidecut, but it doesnt feel like it turns more when you get it deeper onto edge, which is why I said what I said, but I am sure they are doing something in the nose and tail to make the board perform the way it does. The deepfake is even stiffer than the moderator.
