  • I've been actively driving for only 2 months, and the first thing I started doing was keeping a safe distance and checking the traffic lights and the traffic flow. E.g. if I notice in the distance that the light is red, I shift to a lower gear, brake with my engine (this also helps to save fuel) and slowly move forward. In 90% of the cases I don't even have to brake because the light changes to green in the meantime, so not just I save money, I also prevent to create a "traffic snake".

  • heres what i found: 1. use brakes as little as possible. launching out of the gate may use a couple drops more gas than a slow acceleration, but it only becomes a huge waste when you step on the brake pedal, turning all that kinetic energy into heat. and hey, maybe that extra speed will get you through that next light, and all the next ones too in my experience. so it may pay to drive fast sometimes. 2. learn your car. if you can play well with it, and learn what it likes, it will reward you by saving lots of gas. 3. learn your roads and routes. learn traffic patterns and think over the best road. some roads may get you worse mpg or km/l, but burn less fuel overall from point a to point b. 4. dont try to perfect your fuel efficiency. just do your best. and let yourself have fun with your car.

    @rabbitdrink@rabbitdrink2 жыл бұрын
    • this comment is 11 months but I agree with your lists of to save gas" tips, unfortunately one of our cars use carborators, historic artifact that uses alot of gas, inaccurate timing on opening, low speed and needs alot of reving to change to next gear, but the other car is efficient, only downside is some people accidentally scratching or intentionally. so we use old car.

  • I try not to use brakes on the highways... as in thinking ahead and anticipating the acceleration/deceleration of the car ahead of me, and I look 3 to 5 cars ahead of me. If I see brake lights of a car 4 cars ahead of me going on I feather my throttle accordingly to sync with the flow. But most people would rush and brake late and hard when cars in front of them slow down, only to accelerate hard again to match up to the flow. It's what causes jams on the highways, unnecessary braking. These are mostly tailgaters on the outside (overtaking) lane.

It depends on the manner and your style of driving. The best way is always to anticipate the actions to be carried out well before they approach. Avoid braking as much as possible and leave an elastic buffer zone between the vehicles ahead. and finally try to drive bellow 60mph

  • the ac part is wrong, if the ac is on its putting extra force on the engine no matter which temperature you put, the ac compressor spins or its off and its stopped. temperature and fan speed will not save fuel ask any mechanic or whatev.

    @sweetdreams1DIAM0ND@sweetdreams1DIAM0ND8 жыл бұрын
    • With modern aircon systems, if the car reaches the temperature you selected, the compressor also stops turning to save fuel. The Mazda2 has a temperature sensor in the cabin, so by setting a higher temp, you CAN save fuel

      @danesebruno@danesebruno8 жыл бұрын
    • +Bruno Danese 90s car has that as well, through I am not sure what you mean by reaching the temperature selected. My 95 would engage and disengage the compressor at any time on manual mode as long as its in eco mode. The air would get very cold and the compressor will disengage itself until the vent air gets a little less cold in which case, I'd hear a click as the clutch engages as the air becomes colder again and vise verse. There is also a 'climate control' as auto mode is selected, it automatically adjusts the AC, Heater and fan speed to meet the temperature set. However, it ramps the fan speed up so aggressively when ever the cabin is hot or if its a sunny day. If starts getting cloudy, it will automatically lower the fan speed and turn off the ac and finally if it's a very cold day, it will only open the valve and blend door to the heater position.

      @chrischoy9@chrischoy98 жыл бұрын
    • sweet dreams you got wrong mechanic then, compressor is belted to the engine and pushing engine to revs higher, that's why they put idle switch sensor to adjust the amount of energy needed when compressor pulls the energy compressor also equipped with electric coupled when it is turn on, the electric coupled will put the compressor geared turning with the engine all of this will make car engine got more load including alternator if you watch closely try turning on your main lights and your engine will sound different, because alternator puts load on engine according to the load needed all of this is a big matters if you drive a gasoline engine, for small engine especially, under 2 litre but, if you drive diesel engine, it will be more efficient because diesel engine got bigger torque, difference is real that's why I like diesel engine

  • LOL I swear, I'm worse than that 'fuel saver' guy ! Always driving under 2k revs (unless if there's someone tailgating me, and if so, I still won't exceed 3k revs), coasting (driving in Neutral) downhill and to stops, hardly using the aircond (only the blowing fan) etc.... but tbh, you don't need to do any of this in a modern car like this Mazda2, because it's already so fuel efficient and forgiving, whatever savings possible from 'Christian driving' is almost negligible... but unfortunately, my 80s-engineered, carburetted Saga is about as modern and refined as a wheelbarrow... so I don't exactly have a choice. xD

    @Aero7SVR@Aero7SVR8 жыл бұрын
    • +Aero7SVR OK so it's got carbs because I wanted to say that a modern car with fuel injection doesn't use any fuel to make the engine run while coasting in gear, whereas it needs a little fuel to keep it running in Neutral, so it's better not to put it in N when coasting...

      @TuddecBMW@TuddecBMW8 жыл бұрын
    • +Aero7SVR To save fuel when it comes to slowing down you are far better to shift down through the gear so the engine isn't needing fuel to keep running if you cruise to a stop in neutral plus if you need to move off quickly you can... only works with fuel injection cards not cars with a carb.

    • +Aero7SVR saga is still a good reliable car XD
