However, from what I've read here, Izzy was more proactive in the bore-fest the match was. Conversely, Yoel had one job, and that's to take Izzy's belt by all means necessary, BUT he NEVER did THAT. Izzy was advancing when he unexpectedly got caught off guard by Yoel's right overhand, and preferred counter-striking instead of going forward and settled with low kicks. The two were just waiting who's gonna strike first, being more defensive, and it became a boring fight which dismayed the fans. Still, kudos to the two amazing fighters for doing their absolute best.💯

I just rewatched the fight...I feel even more disgusted. There's no way izzy won 3 rounds, let alone 4 on that judges card. Everytime romero used his hands izzy wanted nothing to do with it,he wasn't even looking for a counter. He landed nothing significant on the head,max 3 significant body strikes and all his significant strikes were leg kicks. Romero tried to crack him countless times, he actually stunned him a few times.1 takedown doesn't matter if he got back up or not..he had the center of the octagon most of the fight ..the 1,2 and 5 is Romero's,3is izzy's...4 is questionable.

@@deezupzeohdown957 Not as much as clean hits. Clean hits whether it is on the leg, body or head gives the most points. Romero landed 1 big clean punch in the 1st round, but all the other rounds, his strikes either missed a ton or got blocked.
So can basically win any hard fight just by running around the cage, the judges would let you win on the decision if you have a good storyline

He fought. He struck his opponent more than he was struck. I know everyone wanted a bloodbath but he did what he needed to do, and it was more than just running.
All the comments literally say the same thing just with a different name inserted; izzy didn't bring it to Romero, Romero didn't bring it to izzy, I'm pretty sure that we can agree and say that neither human "brought it" to the other human. That's why Dana had mentioned before in the Jones vs Reyes fight to "not leave it in the judges hands." I'm a huge fan of both fighters but in my humble opinion I felt like Romero could've knocked izzy out if he would've put more pressure on him. The whole point of the sport is to win fights through KO, TKO, Submission or Decision.. since neither guy accomplished the first 3 then we have to leave it at the decision. The decision is Izzy won. Paulo Costa has a big chance of winning the title from izzy.. so hopefully we can see PC & YR sometime in the future.

Yoel is by far the most terrifying person in the ufc. Maybe Izzy won the fight but put them in a street fight with no rules and no time and Yoel will win 99% of the time. Izzy is a great Point fighter but that’s not always the best to watch

This fight was me trying make peak fitness while also not trying to overtrain in ufc 3
lmao izzy was terrified after that first punch and pretty much did everything he could to stay away from him. even when yoel engaged izzy's reaction was to run to the other side of the cage. nobody should be calling his 12 leg kicks as a legit win over romero.
Every time Yoel loses a decision everyone cries that he won look the guys a really good fighter full respect but if his worried about loosing another decision in possibly his last title shot there's no more chances for this guy and he is going to just stand and cover up and wait to attack wrong game plan I believe considering the circumstances it's on Yoel to bring the fight to the champ and should have worked for a stoppage that's what everyone wanted to see

Clearly Romero came in with a gameplan of wanting to bait Adesanya into the pocket with him and knock him out with a counter punch. Yoel got Israel early in the fight in round 1. Izzy felt Romero's power and basically realized he didn't want any of that. So what did Izzy do? Well he played it safe the rest of the fight and utilized his reach advantage and didn't give Romero what he wanted by going into the danger zone. He just stayed on the outside and landed/threw more strikes in 3 of the 5 rounds and Romero never pressed forward. Romero would just stand there and take some of Izzy's strikes and then stick his tongue out to show your punches ain't affecting me. That is cool and all from Romero but that is not how you win a fight in the UFC....Romero the entire fight thought Izzy would come into the pocket with him and fall into his trap and Izzy never let that happen, instead of Romero switching up the gameplan, he continued standing stationary for most of the fight....he never started actually going forward and tried to take the fight to izzy, he never utilized his silver medalist wrestling skills, he didn't do enough to win that fight based off the scoring system....is Izzy gonna get people's respect fighting like this? Is he going to be a people's champ? Obviously not. However, did he win the fight based off the scoring system and do enough to DEFEND his belt? Yes he did...Romero only has himself to blame. He was the CHALLENGER, this may have been his last title shot ever and he decided to fight like that? Izzy ain't Whittaker or Costa...he ain't gonna rush into Romero and bang with him...that just ain't Izzy's style...Izzy is much more like Anderson Silva(who got his fair share of criticism too for boring fights). Israel "runner" adensanya said he was going to destroy Romero and was going to take him out of the UFC. A true champion easily wins his rivals. Romero had more takedown attempts and applied a couple of punches. Since he felt Yoel's punch, he no longer wanted to get any closer, just throwing kicks with the long legs of mosquitoes he has.
