    • This ref gave Mike Tyson a 13 count and Buster Douglas a 13 count, as well. Iron Mike is not going to go on a stage in front of hundreds of people and admit that the ref made the same mistake twice. Besides, Buster was really pounding Tyson's face quite a bit. Buster used his long reach to his advantage & this fight was one-sided in favour of Buster Douglas. Who would go onto face Evander Holyfield and lose that fight, then he retired.

    • @@gmic56ify probably why your dad started screaming haha. The whole Long Count controversy was settled almost immediately after the fight. Your dad probably remembers that after the match only the ibf would immediately recognize Douglas as the champion. The WBA and the WBC did not recognize him as Champion until a few days later because of the whole Long Count issue. Basically what the whole Long Count thing was about was Don King trying to invalidate the results. The fact of the matter is no boxing match has ever been overturned because the referees count was a little slow and they were not about to start with Tyson versus douglas. The fact is Douglas beat the refs count, which is all he was required to do. Even if it was a little slow.

    • @@devingarcia2178 also it's not really a 13 count either way.. the ref doesn't have to pick up the count from the guy outside the ring. You don't start counting, until the other guy is in a neutral corner, so the longer they take to get there because they keep bucking or trying to get at the guy, the longer it takes for the count to be taken up. So that was a mistake by the guy outside the ring. And in a "real" fight Tyson would've gotten knocked out the many times Douglas was beating on him like a drum and had him hurt but the bell gave him time to recover, before Douglas ever got so overconfident that Tyson could put him down... Anyway, he wasn't that hurt, he could've gotten up sooner either way.

    • @@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692 so this actually isn't true. The Count starts straight away and the ref directs them to the corner, the ref then picks up the count from the timekeeper, If the boxer leaves the corner then you have issues yes. Not if they are moving to the corner. The only real justification is that it's more a 10 count not 10 seconds. And that's in the rules, it doesn't say seconds, it says count. • At that point Mike was completely delirious. He could barely stand on 2 feet. The ref gave him a bear hug just so he wouldn't fall down again and called off the fight. I respect you all cheering for Mike Tyson. But he clearly lost that fight. Buster did fall down in the early rounds, so it seemed like Tyson was going to win. However, thereafter, Buster exploded in the fight and was the clear winner. The ref counted to 10 so slowly for both fighters and gave them a few extra seconds. Buster obviously is much taller than Iron Mike, but he just couldn't reach him with his short punches and Buster was just hammering away.

    • @@AnonymityAI disagree. A 46-1 underdog puts a shellacking on your undefeated heavyweight champion for 7 round and 2:50 seconds of the 8th… he earned those extra seconds. Watch the telecast. Lampley and Merchant are making jokes about him not getting out of the first before the fight starts. But for the record, we who fight know that the ref’s count is the only count that matters and so long as he’s consistent to both fighters you can’t really complain about it. I love Iron Mike, but Buster was just… chosen, for lack of a better term. By destiny, by the Gods of Combat, whatever it may be, it’s obvious from the opening moments to the closing ten count.

    • @@AnonymityA I know what you're saying, and it's tough when your fighter loses. I'm a huge Tyson fan. I love the way he has bounced back in LIFE. But Tyson put that man down in the 8th, and he got up, REGARDLESS of 3 extra seconds or not, and went on to put an old fashioned ass whooping on the baddest man on the planet. Tyson should have finished him in the 8th and there's no way he should have allowed 48 to one underdog to come back. And honestly, I love me some Mike, but for him to still be blaming a long count, bad training, etc. Is simply bad form. We all lose. If you fight long enough, you're going to lose.
