  • Gracie Jiujitsu was known for it's powerful submission, throws and grappling techniques on the ground , but I realized that ground fighting is just one part of Jiujitsu and for a long time it became a misconception. Gracie Jiujitsu has evolved from Kodokan Judo until it became more of a technical martial art until strikes were added, it's safe to say that Jiujitsu is now an all around and complete martial art.

    • Judo was derived from original Jiujutsu. Original Jiujutsu had strikes and kicks. Kano removed the strikes and kicks to make the art more accessible to the public and to appease the new government that considered original Jiujutsu to feudal.

    • @@francisfrando1071 Yes in a sense it is, Gracie Jujitsu is a little different because it uses leverage instead of the Japanese power game, also the mindset is different because your opponent's exhaustion is part of the art. GJJ is a complete system for defense. GJJ brings Judo back to its roots.

    • Lol! Bjj is judo and Judo has always been more complete than bjj. Judo is jiu-jitsu and bjj is nothing more than old school judo

  • This was a very beneficial tutorial thank you Mr kone. However defense against hook punches to the head are one thing but you didn't cover hooks to the body which is a different Dynamic altogether! You covered straight punches to the body but those are not even the ones that you have to worry about seriously hooks to the liver or ribs are devastating!

  • Love the techniques and what you are teaching should be taught at every Jiujitsu school in the world. One thing though, you should not tie your belt like that, loop it inside the first circle around your waist (if that made sense).

  • I know this is supposed to be a basic defense against someone throwing strikes..and it is viable I think..to a point..unless you're throwing down with someone who knows a ''bit'' and doesn't actually allow you to figure them out, or telegraph..almost half of the opponents seen here in the link are an example of why this defense against punches could end up bad..I know Chuck is a monster and all and it is a bit ''unfair'' to bring him into this conversation..but mind you his opponents weren't average either and had a lot of training under their belts..just be careful when using this against certain aggressive opponents is all i'm saying..good grappling set ups...that is the main reason I came here... kzhead.info/sun/d7GsfqeNfYp5ZZE/bejne.html
