  • Suggestion. Since you are already laser etching, how about if you put graduation marks with enumerations along the belt, say ⅛" increments. The enumerations don't have to be listed in eighths. Just whole numbers. So that if you are grinding on a 3, when you flip the blade over, stay on the 3. Until you want to move up an increment. This would allow even less skill to get a great blade. Or, just enumerate the ¼" marks but place 16 th graduation marks. For even finer control. Cheers from a Rev 3 Builder. Though, I doubt the actual Unit of measure doesn't really matter. This would be merely a visual aid for how much material you are cutting off.

  • You did a good job of fluking your 45 degree cut with the toolpost holder. :) Suggestion.. You could also lower the toolpost holder to 45 then scribe the tooling arm then cut to that line. Not a big difference really but if you want to get that lined up like Brian did and it would guarantee giving you the hole clearance.

    @Cameron973@Cameron973 Жыл бұрын
    • That's a good point, not much to hold on to with a hidden tang. Probably think a bit ahead on that and leave it longer or wider then profile it later. Ill give it a shot and report back. Thanks as always for supporting my work!!

      @HouseMadeUS@HouseMadeUS Жыл бұрын
  • Ya know I love your stuff & this is a great idea(think I made something like it yrs ago). My big issue with any jig, they really cripple learning how to properly grind bevels. That said, if you learn great technique(freehand) & you need a production tool, this is amazing. Unfortunately, most people use them as a crutch & not a tool!!! LEARN FREEHAND 1st, NO JIGS!!! I've seen guys that made knives before me, still doing the same lame grind... Anyways, rant over, always love seeing your new ideas, hope all is well, take it easy...

    @evaderknives@evaderknives Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah its a polarizing thing these bevel jigs and hand grinders. Man I wish I had more time to dedicate to the process of learning it. I know its more efficient in the long run. This is some where in the middle. Thanks as always Dave for supporting my work brother!!! I appreciate you!

    @matthewmysse1523@matthewmysse1523 Жыл бұрын
    • You would not use it to put an edge on for 2 reasons 1) you will have the handle on at that point so there won’t be a constant flat to lay on the table and 2) the belt is running toward you and you would run the risk of cutting the belt. Thanks for the question!👍

  • Hi Brian, this new table looks great. I have a Gen 3 machine with the D plate upgraded to gen 4. I primarily make kitchen knives and usually make a full flat grind on 1/8” thick by 2” wide stock, my grind angle is about 1.5 degrees. Will I be able to achieve that low of a grind angle on your new table? I’m guessing I might need to grind out a the back of the belt slot on the table but would like to know for sure that I can achieve that small of an angle.

    @markthomas7399@markthomas7399 Жыл бұрын
    • It may be possible. The table is able to achieve the same angle as the platen but you’re correct to possibly achieve a 1.5° angle you would have to grind a ton away from the backside of the table. I have ground mine back about 1.5” and can achieve 3.5° with no interference.

    @jonmatle@jonmatle Жыл бұрын
    • Any jig requires you to clamp or bolt your work to it. This solves that problem and speeds up your grinds. Also the platen and work rest are made to be angled any way you like. Takes about 1 minute to reset.

    @raymondoreilly7569@raymondoreilly7569 Жыл бұрын
    • Yes I sell the arms but not the wheels. You can buy those pretty cheap on AliExpress. Here is a link to the arm: housemade.us/products/contact-wheel-tooling-arm-kit There is a video showing how it goes together at the bottom of the page.
