    • Same. I knew it would be cringy, I could tell by the trailer. However, I pushed through it and actually enjoyed quite a few scenes. A lot of funny lines but the way it was filmed or delivered was awkward at times and made the jokes seem dull. I didn’t understand why they set it up for Ezra to meet her parents in that way, instead of showing them meet for the first time like Lauren had to with his parents. That would’ve made more sense and would’ve been better to see the father’s reaction to seeing him for the first time. This movie could’ve been way funnier if they put more time and effort into it.

Love the cast but it's 2 hours movie of played out been done too death jokes. I understand there is a talking point to this movie but it could have been done a bit better to deliver it's message.

    • Only thing that’s a tad silly is that on a planet of billions, in real life, not every person thinks like this and even if parents do, idk why their kids (Lauren and Jonah in this example) would even want their parents’ approval of who they date and marry especially when they already have their own homes and seemed to already be living together before the marriage. Other than that, I enjoyed the moments of realness that were sprinkled in. To me it was a nice mix or seriousness and comedy. And like you said, Kenya did a great job directing. Never knew this was his first movie but I’m familiar with his Black ish work, can see the similarities throughout this movie.

  • This movie was very funny and touched on interracial relationships and race relations in an accurate way. I also like that Eddie played a character that was different from what I've seen him play. He wasn't the comic relief. He wasn't trying to get a laugh, even though some of the things he said and did made me laugh. He was just the overprotective militant father. I respect him for taking on the role. Some people didn't like him because they wanted him to be funny. Well, sometimes, he doesn't have to be funny. He can do a serious role too. He was actually the straight man to Mike Epps' character. Lastly, some people are complaining about this movie because of the racism. The movie is about an interracial couple, so there is going to be racism involved. If not by the families, then by society. It's a fact. Not everyone is going to accept the relationship. And sometimes, people see color FIRST. Ezra's mom was spot-on with her characterization. If you can't deal with the racial issues in this movie, then don't watch it.

As someone younger than Jonah Hill, I think it's really unfair to deceive the fans of Eddie into watching small bits with him. That's why this movie didn't do as well as it could. Older legends have the ability to lead. They did Michael Keaton dirty and cancelled a Batman Beyond movie, thanks to David Zaslav and James Gunn (ugh!)

Mixed couples go through their ups and downs by accepting a new culture into their lives and I'm sure there is real humor in that but they just ruined it w this movie. Eddie Murphy played a "hard ass" black dude which did not suit him. It's as if Lauren London is still in highschool and Jonah Hill wasn't funny in the slightest. Mike Epps was the funniest character and he barely had a part. This movie was trash and I should get paid for the time I wasted watching it smh.
