Learn How to Solder SMD in this Detailed Surface Mount Soldering Guide.
SMD Soldering and Desoldering is little different from thru-hole Soldering and Desoldering Process.
SMD Desoldering is generally done using a Hot Air Blower while Soldering can be done using a soldering iron and solder wire or using solder paste or solder balls (BGA) and SMD Hot Air Blower / rework station.

There are many process for surface mount soldering for SMD Components but none is perfect for all applications.
Types of SMD Soldering Process
All SMD soldering processes have technical concerns and there are ways to resolve those concerns. Because it offers higher yield and lower operation cost, convection dominant IR soldering has evolved as the preferred process for reflow soldering.
Vapor phase soldering will not disappear but will continue to be used in niche applications. For some specialized jobs, other reflow soldering processes such as laser and hot bar resistance soldering are also used.
These soldering processes are intended not to replace either vapor phase or IR but to complement them. The process ultimately used should be selected on the basis of the specific requirements of the intended application, the solder defect results, and the overall cost.

  • The thing is, those solderpads are huge so it looks easy in the video! But in real life scenarios.. they are more compact and you have to use a rework station...!!! I'm a mobile repairing technician as well as audio products manufacturing technician!

  • Ya it's a good training. But whe you showed the different type of components, simultaneously you should show the backside/bottom side of the component also. Or atleast during the soldering time you should show the other side of the component and how it should be placed on the board

  • He make it look easy i spent 2-3 hours to sold a small piece im wondering what brand is he using for solder wire cos mine dont really stick i believe this is expensive one for sure im also wondering if you burned those white lines does it affect the performance of the computer??? Also what kind of liquid to use to remove the flux?

  • You have to fix the soldering iron, and it needs a sharpened wire for using as tip. Instead of using the solderer, place the lighter panel to the solderer, standing firmly. I used a magnifying glass to see better the panel’s components. However, if you don’t have electricity at all, you can use a tin candle, can make it at home, suitable as a fitted solderer, and works with 4mm ² solid copper wire, if sharpened as a screwdriver. The wires corrode quickly, but works.
