Ride along as my solo adventure continues from southern Utah into Nevada where we stumble upon an incredible camp surrounded by a magnificent sandstone cathedral. I also meet up with one of my best friends and get a sneak peek into his new (to him) Toyota Tundra build.

Nice trip! As far as the start is concerned, turn your ignition to start and wait until the noise of the fuel pump stops before cranking. Then start the engine and see if it starts right away. This can help you test for a bad (or going bad) fuel pump. Ask me how I know. :))
I’ve camped in that exact same spot and stumbled upon it almost the same way, missed turn in the wash and everything 😂. The rocks there are so cool.

Thanks for sharing your wrong turn. I have made a few the same way and also learned to chck my track after a change in the trail or direction.
Great video Kevin! Enjoyed the rock crawling, overlanding and off camber footage (especially with the trailer). Not ususally a fan of drone footage but filming your friend off road as he was driving to meet you was really good. Also the zoom perspective of your friend from the drone (and associated commentary) was cool. Interesting how he followed the same left turn as you. Additionally I liked the canyon footage near the end (if I remember correctly) of last week's video (you actually showed this canyon again at the beginning of this video). National park level in my opinion. Finally, the location of this video's camp looked awesome. Kevin, are you able to do a video on how you go to the bathroom (specifically the duece) and shower? Do you use a special tent? Do you use a petrol station or restaurant bathroom? What about toilet paper or do you employ a type of bidet? What about soap? How do you set up your shower? Any particular routine you recommend to make the process more efficient. I get a bit anxious after watching your videos because you eat so much delicious food but then I wonder "Did they go to the bathroom? They certainly have been on the road for a few days and I hope they are not holding back any bowel movements." I realize this may read funny (however I assure you I know why they are shooting at the cans, have not incurred a lawsuit against my version of opti-grab and am ok with being served wine from 1969 but no earlier than 1969) but cannot figure out a comprehensive way to conduct this sort of business when in nature. you should check your fuel pressure for that extended crank and try a new purge valve for that cel. look me up i western colorado some time

Kev, With the intermittent tank issues/evap codes, id bet you are having an evap issue causing the hard start concern. EVAP concerns can definitely cause a hard starting concern
I was also thinking a leaking fuel injector or two adding to that problem as well,
Man, sleeping in that camper alone must be heaven! Enjoy it while it lasts! Haha
I had an AWD 2005 RX 330 which had an evap prob AND would code and turn on the VSC light taking away traction control. Come on Toyota. I have a 18 white 4 Runner (Casper). No problems at all.. Love it.
Great video, excellent production value as always! Just a thought, is there any way to install a valve between your two fuel tanks? That way you can isolate the aux tank and maybe prevent your evap problems?
Any modern offroad vehicle has this issue as there isn't a "tow" setting like some pickups have. Especially in automatics, the shifting is all off with that extra weight, sport keeps the transmission in a lower gear longer.
Getting a tune really helps a lot
I use sport mode 4 for towing, sometimes 5 if flat roads. LandCruiser Prado 150, diesel 6 speed auto. Toyota manual actually says to tow in 4th
My guess is either fuel injection issue, or a Spark from the coil packs issue, not Burning the fuel on Initial Combustion
Kevin, a hard start can be caused by a fuel injector leaking while the engine is off. It floods the engine causing the hard start.
I've had some suspicions about the injectors on this. Probably time for some freshening up. Thanks for the input 👍
Check your fuel pressure; it could be the fuel pump. I do believe there is way to test the injectors for leakage. If you need to replace them, I would use the OEM. After market infector tend to be not very good. @@LifestyleOverland

I just bought a 2018 4 runner last month.. so far good!
Because traction control reduces engine power when activated, so if it sees CEL on it can’t control the engine and then itself faults. Honda does this as well
Same with Subaru, even turns off cruise control for gas cap being loose
EVAP code and hard start sounds like it could possibly be a fuel pump. Don't get stranded.
Hmm, needs a coating or rubber on the forward facing bits of the trailer.

With the evap code, is it getting harder to fuel up? I replaced my evap but it ended up being a filter on the fuel neck. Hard start may be a head gasket too.
@Kevin...is that the Alpine ILX-509 head unit? (I know I watched a video a while back on this, but memory is lacking at the moment). Do you like the 509 or would you go up to the 511, if you were just starting to update the OEM head unit?
When are you making modifications to the trailer ?
Kevin million dollar question. You have owned and driven plenty in both platforms 4Runner and gx460. In your opinion one will outlive the other? One is more reliable than the other?

So I had the Long Range America 33 gallon tank installed in December on my Taco & have the same issue. What app are you using to clear the check engine code?
You have probably thought of this but why not put a valve between the 2 tanks so stop that code?

I remember 1993 and getting my 1st 4WD Toyota. I took it all over California, Arizona and and Utah. Made many videos on 8MM. Should have kept them to be a KZhead star!!! Lol. This ends soon. Better have a backup, dude.
