If you’re like me, you probably looked at binding of Isaac gameplay one time and thought “eh” and opened up your favourite, relevant, movement shooter. And I can’t hate on that, but you ARE missing out on one of the most fun and chaotic video game genres out there. But you prefer first person shooters right? Well I think I’ve found a solution.
See, I’ve spent the last month sifting through steams extensive library to find 3 FPS Roguelikes, 3 GREAT FPS Roguelikes you can confidently tank your hard earned cash into.

    • I see that you have a combo system. Why not make the health drain a bit faster by default, but by increasing your combo meter you gain larger amounts of health, with a max multiplier overflowing your HP (to an extent) to reward people for playing aggressively and stylishly. Kind of how DOOM 2016 makes you fight aggressively if you want ammo and health back!

  • Actual comment: Gunfire Reborn needs to be on here somewhere. The movement in it is simple yet addictive, the gunplay is psychotic, the way your characters ramp up is amazing to feel, and the variety of characters, builds, and difficulties is just fun. It was/is heralded as BL2 if it was an FPS Roguelike and it definitely leans into that, with the Crown Prince and Ao Bai (the first two characters) literally having Maya's Phase Lock (but as a projectile) and Salvador's Gunzerk respectively. Even then, the game diversifies itself when you get to Qing Yang, a melee focused bird who dives in and fucks bitches up with his wing hands. Or Lei Lou after him, who is literally the most fun sniper character I've played in any game while also having speed and power. The main draw of the game is how insane things can get as you gain more and more stuff through your runs, maxing out your skill trees outside of the game and going in knowing more about interactions between yourself and enemies. Such as elemental combos, where shocking and burning an enemy confuses them and makes them attack allies. Or the sheer gravitas that is the "final boss" of the Pole Monarch in the final, challenge level. The weapons are unique, the characters are fun and refreshing to play, and the game just has so much PROMISE. I bought the game years ago when it was in early access, right after Tao released. I then bought the game for my friend, then another, then another, until I bought the game FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES. It's come out of early access and is 20$ USD with arguably overpriced (and overpowered) DLC (7$ per 2 characters and 4 weapons). It's a game I can't not recommend to someone who likes FPS and roguelikes. It strikes such a balance of style and power that's almost intoxicating. And with the story mode still actively in development? It's a very top tier game. Joke comment: Pee pee poo poo cummy wummies uwu

    • Gunfire is pretty decent but I'm surprised people haven't recommended risk of rain 2. I think it's also better than gunfire as the roguelike thing is the powerups you get, in gunfire they just don't feel as strong and shooting an enemy for ten minutes to kill it seems to just happen way more often as you can't control the power ups you get as well, as in risk of rain you can do the teleporter earlier if you feel that the items are not worth going for and the enemies in the next stage are weaker as you spent less time. But idk I'm just kinda saying id way rather play risk of rain instead of gunfire most of the time, but if you're looking for a new roguelike experience it's good for a while.

  • I feel like the argument that force reboot is "short and repetitive with poorly implemented upgrades" can be applied to post void too. It makes perfect sense for post void to make it onto the list though, as it definitely has a lot of areas in which it beats force reboot, but going so brutal on force reboot just to jump into post void with such positivity afterward really tripped me up. Also really love these videos on little indie genres that don't get much attention, can't wait to try out robo quest whenever I can.

    @hipposeducer28@hipposeducer289 ай бұрын
    • That's fair enough, there were other things in force Reboot that hold it back that I wasn't bothered to mention which add to the argument, but I can see where you're coming from. Personally, I think post void is a much more refined game with a smaller vision, therefore it's easier to make work while force Reboot is more complicated which requires a bit more polish. And thank you! I definitely recommend roboquest, I'm very keen for patch 10.0

  • RoboQuest was one of those games I stumbled upon when it was in its early days and I’m a sucker for rogue anything. The games was more barebones then and it had me hooked for hours. The movement, the pacing and twitch aiming really had me immersed. Finding the right combo of weapons really gave it more variety aside from the random generated rooms and enemies with even certain rooms that gave you taking out a mob before being able to move on. Now the game has a lot more to offer and it was cool that the update just refunded all my earlier upgrade buys. I like a game that can test my reaction and skill. This one did that with ease. It’s safe to say that I can highly recommend this

I have a game for you to try called Deep rock galactic, it is a team-based cooperative game with 4 main classes that all have their own use in missions and for your team. Not only that but once you get to an end game (promote dwarf once you are level 25) it'll get a lot more fun once you get things called "overclocks" which can change how your weapon works completely or can be additional good buffs to the weapon

  • You have to talk about Adios it is such an underrated game with a unique story and plenty of replayablity. It is like a slow burn show but in a game that can be completed in a couple of hours.

  • As a rythm game lover, I would absolutely love to see a video on the subject. I really recommend checking out "Old school musical", Wich is definitely worth the price imo, and one of my favorite games. I gotta warn tho, the most creative part and the best one overall is the post game ! I would love for you to check it out if you want to

  • Dope video, but I can't help but recommend Get To The Orange Door, its a game being made by a very small indie team that is SUPER extensive, and has a very cool neon aesthetic. Its still in early access atm, but I mean you should DEF check it out. Ngl I was a little surprised that it wasn't included.

  • I remember downloading enter the gungeon when it came free with my playstation plus pass. I never really thought much of it, and it's difficulty really pushed me away. But a couple months after, I decided to try it again, and I was immediately addicted to the 'one more run' high. I highly recommend it, super fun, challenging, charming, and as someone who's a sucker for pixel art graphics, its a must play. I've 100%ed the game by now but it's still an absolute rush to play. If you haven't already covered it, I recommend you do!

  • Not a genre, but I'd highly recommend The Void Rains Upon Her Heart, Hyperspace Dogfights, One Step From Eden, Monolith, and Space Gladiators. All are roguelikes that have found little to no attention as far as youtube content goes, but are some of my favorite games of all time. The Void Rains Upon Her Heart: Side-scrolling shmup boss rush with a truly absurd amount of content. It's still in early access and yet it has more things to unlock than the full package of every Binding of Isaac DLC, which is quite a feat. Not to mention that it's one of the few roguelikes to actually have some plot to dig into, though it's currently unfinished. Hyperspace Dogfights: 2D jet combat, comparable to LUFTRAUSERS, with yet another colossal hoard of content and unlocks to chase. I've put upwards of 500 hours into this game, and I'm still one achievement away from 100%, but I'm already looking forward to resetting my save and doing it all again just for the fun of it. Part of the reason I enjoy it so much is because, unlike a lot of roguelikes that try to follow in the footsteps of the big, well known, successful games such as Isaac or Gungeon, HsD puts a fairly large emphasis on player choice. The gameplay loop is fairly simple; each zone is comprised of about 5-7 waves, followed by a boss fight. In each wave, you'll be assigned an objective to complete, such as hunting down a squadron of elite enemies, doing recon by capturing a series of zones, or simply surviving for a minute or two. After you've completed your task for the wave, you have the option to jump into hyperspace, where you can spend the money you've gained from killing mobs on chests, identifiable by their color or price, as well as their shape, to be one of four tiers, containing either passives/actives or weapons, and sometimes giving a choice between 3 items. Once you're done shopping, it's on to the next wave, though any unopened chests will linger until you clear the zone. Between the generous supply of chests to open and a bit of game knowledge, you can actually exert a surprising amount of influence of what items you're seeing. On top of the well-designed loop and items, the game also just feels great. Combat is crunchy, with plenty of effects that can vary based on the weapons you're using and enough hitstop to occasionally remind you of ULTRAKILL (though it's configurable). Genuinely, my only complaints with the game is 1: The tutorial does not inform you that you can jump while flying through enemies to shake homing missile locks onto them, which meant that I was stuck using the default Flares active for the first 20 hours or so since I didn't know of any other way to deal with missiles. 2: A couple of the VERY lategame unlocks are somewhat annoying, namely Datacide Mastery and Hardgrade Mastery. Nobody likes being unable to see their items, and Hardgrade is, put simply, the hardest final boss in any roguelike I've ever played. I've beaten Roboquest on Heroes+6 several times, bested the Lich in Gungeon, and done plenty of Heat levels in Hades, but Hardgrade takes the cake for being both brutally hard and mind-numbingly long. On the other hand, it's also the only game I've ever played that caused me to ragequit, which was then immediately followed by booting it up again and playing for another several hours. 3: The music is... just not it. Slap on your own playlist and you're good to go. (we do a little bit of wall of text, oops. TL:DR game good, go play it) One Step From Eden: it's megaman battle network as a roguelike. I'll admit, I hadn't actually heard of MMBN before playing this, but OSFE slaps. All the fun of deckbuilding with all the hectic combat of my favorites in the genre. Plenty of ascension levels too, which is a nice touch. Monolith: Enter The Gungeon if it was good. Admittedly, unlike the other games on this list, Monolith doesn't really do much in the way of items. You've got one weapon slot, Cartridges that provide niche benefits, some Nuclear Throne-esque upgrades that, while helpful, don't really dramatically alter your run, and you can upgrade your health, ammo capacity, and damage. That's about the total of how much progression you can do in a run. On the other hand, Monolith does provide a tremendous quantity of top-of-the-line bullet hell gameplay, a handful of characters, and one of the best hard modes among roguelikes, as it changes the attack patterns of every single enemy in the game to be notably harder, along with an entirely new main route final boss. With Relics of the Past, its DLC that now comes included with the base game, there's quite a few new secrets tucked away, including three new final bosses, an endless ascension level system, and a few more opportunities to take advantage of during runs. It's pretty simple and maybe a bit too retro, but if you're looking for pure bullet hell I don't think there's a better roguelike available. Space Gladiators: Hollow Knight's combat paired with intricate stat-balancing and buildcrafting. Really, there's not much else to say about this one other than that it's made by the same developer as Brotato, though it plays drastically differently (actually being difficult, for one).

  • I got roboquest barely a couple of weeks ago and its been the most fun i've ever had in a shooter. I was gonna suggest it after watching your movement game video, because in the later stages of the game you get a grapple and a jet pack and extra jumps. Not the most sophisticated movement but good enough for me, (i'm titanfall 2 player, the movement is fine) :)
