We wanted to know what's inside a giant paper wasps nest. So we cast it in epoxy resin and then cut it in half with our 60,000 PSI waterjet to get a nice cross section of it. It turned out better than most of our projects!

The clarity of that casting is unreal! Great job guys.
great book ends :) next do the same process with a huge magnet. See if it attracts to each other afterwards
Quality of the resin as well....great job guys
The clarity of your rings are unreal, ngl
By… by far..
You guys need a good pressure pot to help with bubble-free casting. Pressure pots basically crush the bubbles so tiny they vanish. That was a huge improvement in casting already, you guys are getting really close to perfecting it enough that you don't have to second-guess what you're doing.
Isn't it the point of the vacuum chamber ?
Yes and no. The vacuum chamber will get some air out but not all of it in a casting that big, and with the complexity of the wasp nest there's a lot of places air can hide that the vacuum chamber won't get.
After wonder though if a pressure pot would crush a wasps nest because the resin would push its way and forcefully and the paper would not resist the pressure. So you have to wonder if that method would crush the wasps nest.
Nah. If Ben's Worx could cast an inflated potato chip without crushing it, it won't crush the wasp nest.
Y'all got me confused, I do not see the difference in a pressure pot vs a vac chamber. I believe you see the casting, covered down inside a stainless pan with a green gasket just a few minutes in... They are vacuuming otherwise that thing would never have come out so well
Cutting a pure block of polished resin would be cool to see. And then fill the voids cut by the water jet with different colours of resin for some cool looking art.
Cut about half way, then bluish resin to vein and insert nozzle on top of that (like it's cutting when it's on desk. 2. Add Inside cube toycar? Poor illusion like that is going to be cut.
Forget my idea, do this one instead!
How are yall not at a million subs yet!?
Ik right?
Lick more stuff 🤣🤣🤣🤷♂️
I figured out why! Me a sub for years who commented first loving the content on me believing thie channel should be at a million. And the ❤ goes to someone who has a couple more 0s beside his count! Lick this -1
That shot at 5:18 is pretty neat! It's not often we get to watch the waterjet go all the way through the material (because most things aren't translucent unfortunately) Now I kinda wanna watch a cube of resin this size, with nothing in it be cut in real time lol
I'd love to see more things cast in resin. It's so cool being able to see the stream as it's cutting.
Keep the regular released videos coming! It's been cool to see the production value and quality continuing to go up over the years. 1M subs is not even close to your guys' peak.
@@sjv6598 that's why it's so great!
A donkey pinata full of candy encased in resin or an xmas tree, a mini one of course. Cool video!
5:07 "The bee hole" Me: ::hysterically laughing like a 13-year-old::
That turned out extremely clear with little to no obtrusive things getting in the way. It's great the resin went into and throughout the whole hive. I personally was worried it wouldn't go. I can't wait to see what you cut next!
I could see you guys working out some kind of deal between two museums. Maybe one museum might have a spacesuit but not a helmet and the other has the helmet. It would be pretty cool to be able to see the construction inside. A mummy would be insane to see cut in half.
That's actually pretty interesting. You could donate it to a school for their science class, or a museum definitely.
Polishing, the art of removing scratches by adding even more (but tinier) scratches. 😂 How about a rose/chrysanthemum or other complex flower encased in resin and cut in half?
Love it. Watching the learning process is very enjoyable, this will open up many more awesome waterjet cutting possibilities. Just think, Mitchell's tongue has so much more it is yet to taste!
I like to imagine that there is one bee still alive in there. Forever wondering if his crew is coming back.
I would suggest to put flowers in resin. Roses or so. Or maybe a resin sandcastle? The hive looks awesome 👍
A computer encased in resin would be extremely interesting to see.
this kind of creativity is what keeps me coming back video after video, you guys always get me to laugh and keep my curiosity through and through. thanks for keeping the content entertaining!
Im glad you guys realised if you let the first inch of resin harden itd hold down the thing.
true creators. "This opens up new possibilities for things we can cut." "We can only get better from here on now."
Funny how you managed to quote what he said wrong twice 😂
I'm glad you learned the lesson of "Resin is denser than water--so things that float are REALLY going to float in resin" early.
Maybe do an ornament for Christmas. Also doing everything that's not meant for a waterjet in resin is probably the way forward because you can sell the halves
You could try and take a plate or an object and cut it in pieces and then ”repair” it with resin- so you get some cool cross sections in some ordinary objects but still fully functional
That's a cool idea. Break a plate but leave a small 1-2mm gap when you reassemble it. Itd be kinda like that Japanese art form where they fixed cracked tea cups with gold/metals Googled it, it's called Kintsugi
That was labor intensive! Fantastic view of the structure of this nest! Had no idea. Thanks for the vid!
@Waterjet Channel _Come on 1 Million Subscribers! It won't be long now! My 2 sons and dad (myself) love your channel!_ *Thanks* 👍
That was super cool. You guys did a good job on the wasp nest. I didn't know it had the layers. Seashells would be cool.
Keep it up guys! Love watching y’all’s stuff!
I wanna see you cut a big garnet in half. The hive turned out pretty awesome.
getting a big garnet is the hard part. the big, rough ones tend to turn to dust.
@@tsm688 Aww dang. ☹️
It's amazing how clear you guys got it.
My favorite super chill channel, always great vibes! 👌👌
“ate paint chips as a kid.. and continued to do so through adulthood” is probably my favorite thing you guys have ever said
Look at you boys doing directions!!!! Very impressed gentlemen. Now, the Turkey potato gun episode please
Anything mechanical that didn’t work well before could be tried again while suspended in resin. A carburetor for instants has small parts in it which will go all over the place when you cut it open but if it’s suspended in resin then everything will stay in place.
Fill an old radiator with green resin and cut it length wise to see all the old dirt and debris in it
Great job y'all, really stepping it up. Keep up the good videos guys!
You folks are a blessing
I love watching things be cast in resin. Peter Brown who im sure you heard of on youtube does good stuff with epoxy resin. maybe you guys could do a colab in the future.
Looking awesome. Love the new cast stuff videos
Man you guys are getting really good at casting resin! Please don't stop water jetting 😳👍😁🇺🇲😁🇺🇲
Wake up honey new Waterjet Lore dropped!
That looks awesome! Well done!
I love the resin vids, keep 'em coming!
Dang. Getting good with the epoxy.
The Stone Coat guys have a great channel. That was nice of them to help you out.
Cool that you can see how the jet bends backwards as it goes through.
I think a lens V2 would be pretty cool
Wow! The Stone Coat people are super generous!
good job boys definitely an improvement from last time
I’m happy they took the advice from me about floating objects
The amount of times they said "bee", "beehole", "beehive", and "bee parts" killed me.
Honestly just by itself without y'alls other attempts it still looks amazing. I would pay good money to have that as a display piece in my house
Make your own bowling ball Even a small one would be cool
Do a mechanical wind up clock next! That would be sick to see the gears and springs encased in resin.
Try encasing like 10 phones , drill a couple holes in each phone and resin them , then split them down the middle to make 2 cutting boards
Some of these you may be able to do with or without resin: coral/ocean sponges, spaghetti squash sponge, Brillo pad/steel wool, bread/cake/cheese/mushrooms
great video. For the best results, get a pressure chamber! super easy way to get rid of the bubbles and saturate the entire thing that is being casted in resin
Yellow jackets are by far the meanest stingers
I'm 3:44 minutes in... everything is going suspiciously well.
That asmr got my thumbs up and subscription lads. gj
I really appreciate your channel
Yall cats are cool. Love your channel keep up the good work.
Awesome job
like how half way through wasps turned to bees that's a pretty cool trick
You should do a brake master cylinder encased and cut. I’ll even provide the master cylinder.
Cut in half a rotten cabbage. Lol, Bhole.
Great improved techniques. The vacuum chamber and some poking at the air bubbles in the last coat at the cut would have been a good step. 👍 😃
I love the resin series
Have you tried stabilizing resin? Submerge, vacuum, wait, drain, bake, win. You can even re-use the leftover resin so there is less waste.
Impressive Improvement
Oh oh I know wasps! *Mitchell tastes bees* Darn it I was wrong...
Finally gets the resin right
Damn, good job guys
Things you can encase in resin and cut. A heart. That would be grosssssss amazing
I like the positivity!
The guys encasing organic stuff that rots is classic channel content lol
Honestly this was a really nice resin cast, in my utter lack of practical, personal, or professional experience.
Superman "does good". You "do well". Amazing how many Americans do not understand what "doing good" means! It's where expression "do-gooder" comes from!
Holy crap they did the thing and it was good
Resin, a perfect place for all wasp nests.
That was really cool guys
Amazing video
Imagine a single wasp coming out after all of that.
Issue was pouring that top coat over the cut. I could tell pretty much instantly you were going to get bubbles sandwiched between the layers with how rough it was.
That's some good resin
You should do one of the mechanical alarm clocks that's round but one that has all the gears visible.
Next time i suggest making multiple slices and later shining through it
Super cool love it
i liked when the nest caught fire, some pyro videos ? Asking for a friend
This is nice and all but I will never forget the bear spray test. That was pure quality content.
You should encase a bag of potato chips or cereal. Crunchatize me cap’n!!
A rubber band ball might be fun!
Make a mini jack-O'lantern, encase in epoxy, cut in half across its face, or cut into 3 pie shaped slices ( / \ like this) and do the same as the nest. Sit on shelf and see how long it takes to wither and rot inside epoxy.
“A symphony of crackle” *liked immediately
putting the resin into a pressure pot while it cures gets rid of all the small bubbles without having to vacuum or torch it, and I think those streaks might be from undermixing but I could easily be wrong on that.
Looks like some of the layers were undermixed, yeah
Awesome thanks!
These look like good book ends.
Lol I like how you stopped the music for the ASMR tape peeling
Amazing
Maybe cut one half, in half again. So the light can shine through and highlight the structure.
Nice!
This has to be the most work they put into any project so far.. just to cut it in half
