honestly i think Rodgers' team selection for that Real Madrid game probably permanently damaged his reputation with some or a lot of Liverpool fans (including myself). Granted they were probably never going to win that game and probably not get out of the group stages, but to not even try, that's just unacceptable.

Obviously Gerrard was past his best when that Real Madrid game came around. If he was still at his best he wouldn't have left for MLS just months later. Rodgers made quite a few mistakes at Liverpool, but in retrospect this really wasn't one of them.

Shame Brendan didn't have the good sense to drop him for the games against Man Utd and Chelsea a few years back. Liverpool should of won the league that year, but this self inflated ego ruined that for them. I can only hope Gerrard learned from that experience and has the sense to know when a player, even a key figure head like Steven was, should be dropped.

He stayed too long. Never put yourself before the club. His failure to prioritize the club, at the end of his career, cost Liverpool points; and possibly a title. His bad mouthing of Rogers and Benitez is sad and leaves us in no doubt that he should have begged harder for Chelski to buy him; Lest we forget.

Perhaps you'd have deeper feelings on the subject if you were a Liverpool fan. Gerrard was huge and a legend, and lead his team admirably, but contrast his departure with Jamie Carragher, and even the despised Gary Neville. They knew they had given everything and to hang on was to weaken the team. Stevie's problem is that he stayed when everyone knew it was time to go; but how do you tell him that? As he's considered an ambassador for the club, to speak badly of Rafa or Rogers, just to sell a book has not gone unnoticed by Liverpool fans. It's not nice. Perhaps the club you support have no problem with that, but Liverpool FC have higher standards. YNWA

He cost you the league a few years ago and what's more, he set himself up for the fall in dramatic fashion (this can't slip), it was hubris (you may have to look that up). I am not taking away his Champions' league medal (I'm not being smart, but are there any others? He's not a world class player. a guy who has never won the premier league cannot be considered world class. Wes Morgan , Vardy ,Mahrez have won more premier league than him. does that mean Vardy and co are world class? no they had a world class season . similarly Gerrard had a few world class matches in champions league finals but he never won anything and has lower output that Lampard and scholes in terms of Goals and Assists.

Not winning trophy X or playing for club Y doesn't make a player with patently world class ability, as in the case of Gerrard, any less world class- it's a nonsensical and incoherent argument.
Steven Gerrard was not world class. He was very good, but tactically naïve, which is why I don't think he'll be a good manager. As Alec Ferguson said - he's not a top, top player
