On April 19th, Watcher fans were appalled and surprised to see a new video titled 'Goodbye KZhead' announcing they were leaving to start their own streaming service. Let's talk about this decision that they made.

  • It really does feel like they want us to fund Steven's over priced vacations and food under the disguise of content "for us, the viewer"

  • They should have announced it on April 1st, then they could have, well, you know, if it went pear-shaped they could have said it was a prank. Spent 4 years building it up, and 4 minutes tearing it down.

    • I commented the same idea on the Watcher "Update" video -- they should have posted the Goodbye KZhead video 19 days earlier so they could have passed it off with "April Fool!" if it didn't go well...

  • There is a logical fallacy wanting to make TV caliber shows and NOT beholden to advertisers. TV shows are 100% beholden to advertisers. That has never not been a thing.

    • That’s what I’m saying! there’s no way especially with the reasons they’ve given this move makes sense. Someone is lying and someone has to have been taken advantage of.

  • Steven Lim isn’t why we subbed to watcher…

  • One youtuber showed what Watcher makes, they make around $520K a year on KZhead, then, they have around 2,901 Patreons, even if the Patrons are only paying $5 each, that's around $63,000. What watcher is failing to see here is, that KZhead is providing Watcher with the Bandwidth and the STreaming FOR FREE, and once Watcher starts it's own Streaming Service, the Bandwidth and STreaming is going to be coming out of THEIR pockets. An expensive they currently don''t have while they're on KZhead. They're also giving up ALL of their Ad Revenue as well. They are going to Hemorrhage money.

  • They just updated that they changed their mind because they heard the audience and understand it was a mistake. So now they’re continuing KZhead for free and the streaming survice is to just get things a month ahead.

  • I think they're going to double down. Shane's wife has a Tumblr post saying it's hard paying people's wages. Steven posted a week ago about how they hired more people to bring back his food show.

    • A food show that so far, from all of the comments on the Goodbye video, NOBODY LIKES.

      @bulkvanderhuge9006@bulkvanderhuge900622 күн бұрын
    • ... a food show that nobody wants to watch. Plus, there are so many travel food shows on KZhead for free that are arguably better.... and the hosts are adventurous and, gasp, likeable. I will likely never eat a $1000 steak but Thai Street food, yeah, that sounds great!

  • OMG, you had me at your intro & that gap in your left eyebrow! The pandas on your shirt totally put it over the top -- I'm subscribing NOW! Edit: Happy to meet another fan of Puppet History. Hope you also enjoy Shane's summary songs near the end -- silly, ridiculous fun. I also watch Are You Scared, Too Many Spirits, Ghost Files, & Mystery Files, but Puppet History is my favourite.

  • They had 2.88M its now 2.83M. I had unsubscribed from them. It's sad what they are doing to us who had followed them from Buzzfeed. It's also bad timing they haven't done their tour in the UK yet. Is there going to be empty seats? Are the audience going to question them about this or is the show going to skip the Q &A to avoid it.

  • If you already pay for Patreon, you STILL have to pay $5.99/mo to watch their streaming service. That should at LEAST be included in one of the Patreon packages.

  • I think it would be sweet if Shane and Ryan returned to the watcher youtube channel saying they KICKED out stephen.

    @neotericrecreant@neotericrecreant22 күн бұрын
  • I used to think the channel was just Shane & Ryan. After I figured it out the whole deal? I was literally there because I liked the hijinks that their chemistry brought. I think losing THAT hurts viewers the most. Parasocial relationships suck & I don’t think we ever intend on making them but when they are gone it hurts the same.

  • At the cost of sounding hyperbolic, but when the streaming service inevitability fails, I think the guys are done as content creators. Im a fan of Ryan and Shane, but this whole thing has damaged their reputations that I can't see them bouncing back. And the less said about Steven Lin the better.

  • Great point - especially Ceraphi's post. Many people who are low income enjoy KZhead and creators such as yourself because it is entertaining without costing us more money. Creators that appreciate their fans without trying to monetize on their fans love will go a long way on KZhead. This was such a greedy move by the team, they could have cut back on their production costs if they sincerely wanted to keep making content or even partnered with a streaming company like Netflix or Amazon to make a one-off season of their shows
