The Walking Dead is an immensely popular TV show about zombies (or walkers as they call them) - first of all thanks to hyper-realistic makeup. How are the walkers made so shockingly realistic? How much CGI is there on The Walking Dead? What do you have to be able to do if you want to become an extra on the set of The Walking Dead? Want to know all behind the scenes secrets of the walking dead? Watch this video! The team of visual effects artists led by Greg Nicotero brings the walkers to life with practical effects. Yes, while CGI becomes more and more common, for the most part Nicotero prefers old-school prosthetic make-up techniques. The zombie make-up includes dentures, colored mouthwash, over-the-head masks, 3D transfers to create the wounds, prosthetics, hand-painted contact lenses and a lot of hair conditioner. An army of zombies is created by an entire assembly line of make-up artists. And of course in the post-apocalyptic world, there’s a lot of blood and gore around.   • Greg Nicotero is the MVP of the Walking Dead. He's appeared as a walker more times than we can count. Nicotero's zombie cameos are always a treat. Everyone including him, loves them. Gotta love Greg for all the time and effort he puts into this show. Such a passionate and hard worker with the enthusiasm and confidence to make every part of the walkers look flawless and accurate. I don't think The Walking Dead would ever be the same without his talents. 👍

  • Actually one of the better "inside view" videos. The mans voice isnt too annoying and the facts and information given were excellent. I watched the original series at the time, I just never wondered much about it until lately rewatching them all. Many thanks.

  • I remember when I was in like 3rd through 4th grade and the walking dead was lIke talked about in school a lot and kids where making rumours of a zombie apocalypse happening and shit, and I always had nightmares about that and whenever I saw a zombie or something zombie like I would cry in terror like man them things where scary af to me as a little kid. Now I recently started watching the show and I have no fear of the zombies because the show is such a damn masterpiece I don’t even think about the zombies it’s mainly character driven and it’s wonderful. I might have to get the comics some time

  • I would freaking love to be a walker on twd! That’s a once in a lifetime thing & the makeup? Just wow!!! So realistic it’s scary 😂 Imagine if this really happened in real life. I think I’d rather just die than try n survive & be traumatized by the look of the walkers & seeing them eat your family/friends. You’d never be able to sleep. My question is, would it only be humans that turn into zombies or animals as well? Or do the humans just eat the animals & they all die? CRAZY lmfao. I give this show a 10/10 even though all my favorite characters died; Glenn, Rick, Lori, Shane, & so many more. I’m just glad Darryl is still alive and thriving.
