COME SEE ME ON TOUR:
Harry Potter is one of the biggest book and film franchises of all time, and over the course of such a long story, you better believe I found some medical scenes to react to. We look at scenes from The Sorcerer’s Stone (The Philosopher’s Stone for my UK friends), The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order Of The Phoenix, The Half Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows. Between Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Snape, Dumbledore, Dobby, Belatrix, Malfoy, Neville, and Voldemort himself, there was plenty of medical criticism to go around. Specifically we talk about Harry’s scar, Z-plasty, salmonella, broken wrists, concussions, trauma, quidditch accidents, broom falls, Phoenix tears, gillyweed, holding your breath, the bends, bleeding out, vaping, drawing blood, chest compressions, and even splinching! Are there any scenes you think I missed from JK Rowling’s epic?Harry Potter is one of the biggest book and film franchises of all time, and over the course of such a long story, you better believe I found some medical scenes to react to. • In regards to being able to survive a lot of these physical injuries, there is actually a canon reason for it. In the Fantastic Beasts movie, Newt Scamander mentions how wizard and muggle anatomies are subtly different. In that scene, he gives muggle Jacob Kowalski a helmet and set of armour for his protection, but doesn’t have any for himself. This suggests that wizards can survive more severe physical injuries than muggles can, though I doubt they can just brush off all physical injuries. They fall from too high a height without anything to catch them or slow them down, they’re still gonna die the second they hit the ground. EDIT: There are actually a few injuries that you didn’t cover. In Philosopher’s Stone, Ron gets knocked off a giant knight chess piece as a sacrifice so Harry and Hermione can win and proceed forward. It’s not that far a fall, but he’s still out cold when he hits the ground. The book is even worse, since the white Queen, a sentient statue, hits him straight in the head with her arm. In Philosopher’s Stone, when Harry touches Quirrell, Quirrell gets severe burns on his body. In Prisoner of Azkaban, Malfoy’s arm gets slashed by Buckbeak the Hippogriff, an injury that he keeps going for months on end. In Prisoner, Harry falls off his broom during a Quidditch match. Dumbledore is able to save him, but it’s a close call. In Goblet, at least in the book, Harry is dropped by a giant spider onto a leg that he injured trying to kick at the spider. In Half-blood Prince, Harry is cut on a rock just past the point where you showed Dumbledore cutting his wrists. This is actually beneficial, as he needs blood to reopen the door that closed behind him. In the book version of Deathly Hallows, Harry loses control of the flying motorcycle and crashes into a muddy pond. This one actually does bang him up a bit, as his ribs and arm were damaged in the crash. If I missed any, please let me know. I’m going off of memory.

    • @@fcasias7 Yes, they would have bettered each other immensely if they cooperated, but that's a big if. The wizards could also completely destroy all Muggles if someone like Voldemort came into power, since wizards have the ability to just wave a stick at someone and that person drops dead. I believe canonically the story perpetuated by the magical community is that the Muggles began to distrust all the people who could wave sticks around and do either wonderful or terrible things at the drop of a hat, and while it was rare for witch-hunts to result in the deaths of actual witches and wizards (who could just magic themselves out of danger), the magical community decided it would be best for everyone if they secluded themselves from the Muggle world. This would lessen the odds both of the Muggles managing to successfully kill witches and wizards (especially children who have not yet learned to control their magic and thus would be more susceptible to being killed), but also reduce the needless suffering and deaths of Muggles (either at one another's hands, at the hands of said children who cannot control their magic and might accidentally kill someone in self-defense, or at the hands of a witch or wizard whose young child was killed by Muggles).

At the end of the book Barty Crouch Jr was complaining about how Harry was too arrogant to ask for help from his classmates and that he had given Longbottom a book that would tell him everything about how to breathe underwater. But in the movies, we actually get to see Harry asking Neville for help, which was how Crouch had planned it in the books.

Neville came up with the idea to use gillyweed, a magical plant that would allow him to remain underwater for an hour, so it was just part of the contest.

(Some of them are even both treats in one, with color-coded ends to tell you which one to eat first.) So when the forbidden curse hit Harry - presumely where the scar is on his forehead - and rebounded back to Voldemort, the shape remained in form of the scar.

  • Fun facts about many of the injuries you covered. Warning: Text Wall of Spoilers Ahead Movie 1)Harry's scar is considered a curse scar. It was created by the Instant Death curse Voldemort tried casting on him that rebounded on Voldy. And in regards to the flying class, I'm pretty sure Madame Pomphrey, the school healer, get's ignored about her concerns all the time. She probably did suggest head gear and Madame Hooch, the flying instructor and Quidditch Referee, laughed all the way out of the hospital wing. Sounds like something that could've happened. Movie 2)The basilisk is called the King of Serpents, but looks closer to a legless lizard. It's also got the deadliest venom in the world. I don't think Harry really cared about putting pressure on the wound (he was also 12 at the time, and 12yos are notorious for their uninformed decisions) when he thought he was gonna die from the envenomation (Until Fawkes the Phoenix comes in and cries on him). A basilisk is created when a toad incubates a chicken egg. Phoenixes are also incredibly rare and afaik there's only 2 known Phoenixes in the HP universe. Fawkes, and another phoenix that's a Quidditch Team Mascot. Phoenixes are very picky on who they like, and after Dumbledore died, he left hogwarts and I don't think he was ever seen again in the books or movies. Movie 4) Harry taking Gillyweed isn't considered cheating. It was considered a legitimate method for diving through the great lake. Peter Pettigrew, the man that cut his hand off, had it replaced with a magical prosthetic by Voldemort as a reward for his loyalty Movie 5) The skiving snackboxes you saw the Weasley twins showing their classmates were supposed to be eaten in halves. One half will cause the illness, the other will fix it. I believe the fix-it halves were also usable for actual illnesses/injuries. (And Im 100% certain that this isn't the half blood prince, movie 6. The Weasley Twins, even if they hadn't dropped out, were in their last year during Harry's 5th year. They had their own shop in Movie 6 and wouldn't . Movie 6) The hand Dumbledore cut into was cursed and in the books is described as blackened and withered. The curse was supposed to kill Dumbledore instantly but he was able to stay alive long enough to have it isolated in that hand. It was still going to kill him within a year of getting it though. So, essentially, cutting into that hand was technically the least painful part for him, cuz the nerves in that hand are already dead. Movie 7) Ron got splinched, which is something that happens when Apparition isn't done properly (Teleportation) You end up leaving bits of yourself behind wherever you teleported from(usually an easy fix as long as the bits you lost are able to be found. I believe they have a whole ward dedicated to stuff like that in their hospital, St Mungo's.. Essence of Dittany is kind of a quick fix for external injuries, it'll stop the bleeding and seal up the wounds. Harry was being dumb with the dagger. That's pretty on par with him. Movie 8) I have nothing to add for this one. I'm gonna be calling Voldemort "Eel-demort" from now on tho XDDDD

Nonetheless, she doesn't make any notable objections to how dangerous Quidditch actually is (nor does anyone else, for that matter).
