A lot of narcissistic abusers in my life have told me that they're bipolar.
The way they can turn it on and off based on who's watching is the tell I'm going by.

I needed this video SO bad! My mother is a malignant narc. Horrible human!! Friend is bi-polar. I was beginning to think he was a narc too.
Some are “borderline personality disorder”. They either really “love” or really “hate” you, depending on whether you please them or not. Its a roller coaster ride.
My ex has both! When he was depressed, I thought he is manic. But he was depressed AND narcissistic.
Its VERY easy to confuse bipolar with narzi because during the mania periods bipolars can be very sexy, shiny and arrogant and egoistic but during the depression they can discard you, end the relationships etc which looks like narzi behave.
I wondered the same thing about the narcissist I know. But according to everything I've read, bi-polar afflicted individuals do not engage in smear campaigns. Narcissistic personality disordered people do. That's a tool of punishment they always resort to. And that's how I know the difference. I'm also inclined to believe that the vindictive nature and the evil malignant smirk is also a trait that belong to narcissists only.

That's right, we don't do those horrible things. I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder almost 6 years ago. I'm definitely not a narcissist, I am actually an Empath. Unfortunately my Dad is a narcissist. 😔 Thank you for touching on this topic! God bless 🙏❤
@John Don't do that! Like people say, "don't wrestle with a pig, you'll both be dragged through the mud, and the pig likes it!" I personally find the smear campaign to be the worst form of abuse, because of the injustice of it. But in the end, the pig is a pig and likes the mud and at least I'm not covered in mud along with the pig.

similarity I see between narcissist and bipolars is the addictive, chaotic dysfunctional unhealthy selfish hurtful self destructive lifestyles..the frustration, the hyper sexuality risky sex the urges..the rage! All together

What about a bipolar narcissist? The person I was with had the bipolar disorder controlled with meds(lithium). Did not have extended bouts of mania, but was very moody and abusive. The mood went from good to bad in some cases minutes. He had no empathy whatsoever and took no responsibility for his actions. There was also serial cheating with multiple sexual partners.
I have a cousin who has been diagnosed as bipolar- however I recently spent 10 days with her on holiday and she’s definitely narcissistic. She’s even fooled her psychiatrist.
Difference: bipolar in a manic episode have a huge libido. Not only kinky and perverted sex (narcs are into this too), but the frequency they want sex is like up to 5 times a day as a nirmal behavior during the manic episode.
I think it’s difficult to distinguish between narcissistic disorder and histrionic personality disorder out of control.
For those in abusive relationships, the question of what causes an abuser to abuse is significant. The abused may excuse the abuse and the abuser, which is extremely dangerous. Bipolar is a mental illness, is treatable (with difficulty), and having bipolar does not mean a person is or will be abusive. This does not mean that being with a person with bipolar is painless, but the pain does not come from abuse cycles (idealize, devalue, discard) as in narcissism, but from watching the loved one with bipolar suffer with the bipolar. Narcissism is not a mental illness, but a personality trait that can be so extreme that it is toxic (to others, not to the narcissist). The narcissistic person uses other people to regulate his/her/their self-esteem and emotional states. If bipolar and abuse are correlated, it is likely due to a comorbidity and not the bipolar alone. People with bipolar suffer. Narcissists make other people suffer.
Also lack of sleep. Manic people only sleep a very little bit. 3 hrs a night. Narcissists sleep for 7-8 hours - normal.
This is exactly what is needed..main difference, a narsicist always wants money and materialism. This is the most important difference between NPD and any other disorder.

I was really surprised to see that you brought this subject up, bi-polar vs narcissistic. After I went no contact with him, he tried to tell me he was diagnosed as bi-polar and depression. He did view himself as accomplished, talented and exceptional when it came to skills. No, he was not accomplished, he could barely do anything and get it right. I'm not being mean, he did handy man work and I heard lots of complaints, he did some for me. He could not hang a shelf straight, you could see it slanted on the wall. He is, absolutely, 100% a thief. He stole a lot from me, money. He lies a lot and he's always the victim when he tells a story. Where I get thrown off in understanding is that he's do not have this grandiose style, he's more of an introvert. I'm more than a little suspicious that he is gay or if not, he swings both ways. I had someone come up and tell me they walked in on him in the act the person is well respected by many. Either way, I went no contact and have never looked back. Funny how he pulled the bi-polar, depression card as his way to try to get me to be understanding of him and let him come back. I was, in fact, strictly supply, nothing more. He, like many who are diagnosed with mental illness and need medication, he'd rather self medicate. Once again, no thank you. But thank you Danish for educating me about narcissist vs bi-polar. I believe he's narcissistic, but low functioning. He is confident but he knows he's not. He just brags when given the chance. He's been around long enough to know people who know him do not think he is what he tries to make you think he is. But he will not give up telling you he's great. He does photography, he's about one of the worst picture takers I've ever seen. It's sad. He thinks he's great. He has the eye of a 5 year old. You look at his work and just kind of say, oh yes, my, my. But he thinks he's amazing. He tried to once tell me National Geographic wanted him. OMG! That's just embarrassing.

I dated a man that was bipolar. Extreme, niceness one day and massive ugliest the next day. Never took responsibility for anything. I do believe he was raised by narcissist. Was very codependent. But meeting him was extremely different than what I saw 2 months afterwards. More psycho dramatic appeared in his communication and I stopped talking to him. This is interesting but can still be difficult to know which you’re dealing with because from what I observed with the one I was dealing with he consistently showed Grandiosity but then might switch and play the victim, which could actually look like the depressed state. He was even diagnosed with depression by a doctor and put on medication but his behavior really spiraled even worse when on medication and I wondered if it was because the wrong thing was being treated. For years I knew something was off and thought just from reading that it might be borderline personality disorder because he checked just about every box for those traits. I started thinking bipolar because of the constant mood swings towards the end of our relationship. Had never even considered narcissism or looked into it but videos about it kept showing up in KZhead for some reason. So I finally watched one and my jaw practically hit the floor because it described everything I’d been dealing with to a tee. Even when I looked up sociopathy he checked every box.
I once read in a magazine article that most narcissists never kiss on the mouth (a passionate kiss) if they ever kiss you they do it superficially because a passionate kiss means a surrender of their deepest emotions and we can't get there. There are exceptions of course.
At the end of my rope with a woman and I have come to the conclusion that bipolar or narccisism..does it matter when your treated like shit?
I was diagnosed w/ biopolar ~5yrs ago, never took it seriously. I experienced a Narc relationship this past year. Been NoContact for over 3 months and now I’m understanding myself and Narcissism--Thankyou, so nice not to be alone & finally step back and see what happened

Yes, let's hope we don't become like them and don't start scrutinising everyone with this bend of mind. I know people, who call everyone, they don't like a narcissist. 🤷♀️

You probably won't see this but all your videos have been helping me an a extreme way. I have a very big destiny and have been dealing with a narcissist that has derailed me at every impactful moment. Your videos have helped me stabilize my emotions.

In My experience, there is DEFINITELY a LARGE scale of comorbidity. A psychologically DEADLY combination if you ask me! 😮 unfortunately, DSM 5 no longer has multiaxial Dx, so we cannot "layer" any of the other personality disorders, such as Borderline PD, or Sociopathic PD. In minute beginning @ 5:24 I've had to sometimes deal with a rapid-cycle waveform of the mania/depressive Sx. VERY herd to handle from a family perspective. “KjierstenSedDat!!!!”
I have wondered if some of these narcissists are actually mildly autistic and have a problem adapting to society learning to manipulate and play games that will favor themselves.
@@jbrown2908 It seems they are so blunt that they may appear that way. I am not saying ALL autistic people are that way but they have a different way of thinking, take everything literally and get offended when they don’t understand what a phrase means due to that.
It’s probably emotional immaturity and it’s easier for the emotionally immature person to accept the validation by being told that it’s a “disorder” and removing them from accountability.
@@jbrown2908 Unfortunately, disorders are embraced and sometimes broadcast publicly because it’s a chemical explanation of bad behavior.
@@jbrown2908 Narcissists, in particular, are the exact type of people who would refuse to admit to bad behavior by blaming a medical disorder like bi-polar or borderline. In fact, I think HG Tudor has an entire episode about that.

A label doesn’t matter. Abuse I abuse. I’ve been with them both. I conclusion this is that when someone’s mind is far enough gone, and they’re grasping at the straws of sanity, narcissistic behavior is the default lizard brain survival strategy.
Can they have both though because I think they can
A person i know suspect has both,i know has had bipolar most there life but the narssism in them amkes choose to hurt the Closest be there self .and with people from work or new friends hide a part of them selfs
My gf is bipolar (2) and during the mania periods she can act arrogant, selfish and grandiose. And during the depressions she sometimes wants to dump me due her guilt and unsecure feeling.
That was so helpful in understanding the difference between the two! However, with my narc, I do feel there could also be a low level of BP mixed in, but maybe that is not possible? It is one or the other?

Just want to ask, can a bipolar 2 have q few weeks of being sweet and encouraging, but then the next week they're depressed low mood. Or grumpy. Then the start of the third week they are tutting a lot and you say something casually I think daddy might like to watch this will you ask him when he's not watching telly if I'm not around. Then they think your bossing them about. Then a man arrives walks through door and says thanks for looking after daddy. Then she answers, "its my job." Then he asks her, can I use the full mirror in your room, "I just got new trousers and would like to see how they're looking on me," the carer says, "no I've got clothes on the bed." Oh that's fine he says. She produces hand mirror. I say, "I can take a photo of you in your trousers." Two days later the morning visiting carer asks why is daddy and his carer eo angry and upset. The man says, "are 5hey? Why?" "The visiting carer says the live in carer told me you went upstairs into her room and changed your trousers and came downstairs, without permission and she wants to make a formalcomplaint." I dont think this carer is a narcasist or a liar so can it be bipolar 2? Desperate for help. X

Yes! Mine has bipolar 1, he only gets manic, never depressed. He has contempt for depression, especially mine. So he believes he's a prophet. Even when he's not high or manic. There is a definite link between narcissism and bipolar mania.
OMG just a month ago I swear I've said besides my soon to be ex husband being a Narcissist that I think he's Bi Polar as well! How does a Doctor diagnose if they are one or the other, or both combined? I'm used to thinking you can't diagnose a Narcissist
The difference is bi polar has highs and lows from no outside interaction. The narcissistic is being critiqued from anyone. They go into a rage.
My brother has bipolar but I’ve been wondering if he is a narcissist as he is a horrible person. Bipolar can only be used as an excuse so many times, he is downright nasty, bizarre delusions of grandeur. I am not putting up with being treated like garbage because a psychiatrist once said he is bipolar. No deal.
schizophrenic and bipolar have many overlaps with narcisism.
Easiest way to tell: if they can turn it off and on again at the drop of a hat. A bipolar person will be driven to chemical psychosis and humiliate themselves by thinking they’re an alien or something. You just don’t see narcissists humiliating themselves like that.

When he gets extremely upset with Me when I ask him why, where What how for whatever The situation I feel Maybe he's Been dishonest or doing something that would hurt me anyway I will push it and threatens Me he always uses this what would ruin My Life And he knows it so my question is When I remind him of how My children will be very very hurt and destroyed This seems to make Him change his mind And he always asks me how my children are And seems to adore children and animals So.....
