I’ve been watching lots of haulover videos and it never ceases to amaze me how people put kids without lifejackets in the bow.
I've been watching a lot of these vidoes too and came down to the comments to ask why 99.9999999999% of people are not weartng life jasckets. Is it seen as a pussy look or something?
Agree so stupid
On days with small craft advisories.... it couldn't be more perfect for disaster.
It's ridiculous and nuts to even have them in the bow!
We put the kids we don’t like on the bow without life jackets.
I watch Boats V Haulover Inlet, and Wavy Boats all the time which give you a great perspective of a third party view of boats traveling through the inlet, but it’s really cool to see a first person perspective of the inlet in this video, even if most of it is facing the stern.
Bud, you killed it... thanks for sharing!!! I'll stay to the sides from now on.
This is a great video for beginners on the water. Thank you for all of your knowledge!
After seeing so many 'wrong' attempts it is refreshing to see the 'right' approach. Thanks!
great info captain ,, my family is always afraid of going out on this inlet ,, will try to use the side from now on .. great video ,, thanks
I’ve been using your tips for years thanks Captain Mike
Going in and out of the SF Bay into the ocean with the sandbars can get really hectic with the similar wind and tide issues as you’ve described.
great tips, staying to the side is a boat/people saver, thanks!
Doesn't matter how experienced you are, whenever crossing a Bar Or going through an inlet ALWAYS wear a life jacket!
Best advice ever 👌
AGREED! PFD's are required on my vessel (36 foot Wellcraft cruiser, "Dancers Dream" ) when the water or the weather is treacherous
Thank you for this video. I’ve seen numerous fails but this is the first how to. Ty very much.
Great tip Capt Mike! I have been waiting on this video for a while.
Great video, how many knots do you recommended. 12 to 15?
Cool video! Enjoy seeing more from inside the boat, versus shore.
Tremendous local knowledge. Awesome!
Wouldn’t going slow keep your bow down in in the range to scoop up all the water when you could give it some throttle and keep it up on plane and keep your bow higher out of the water?
You guys are doing the best video! Keep it up! you got new subscribers!!
Rule # 1 should be to put your children and pets in a pfd. The thought of hoping your three year old can stay above the water while you lose sight of them in the waves is horrendous yet we see many do this.
very informative thanks
Believe me, this man knows.
Thanks for the info 👍🏾
Another great educational video
Cool to see crossing Haulover inlet from the boater's perspective. Notice all the KZheadr boat watchers with cameras on tripods waiting for the boating fails. Capt Mike, "Not today Jose"
Thanks captain for the tips❤
This is excellent info ✌🏾
Oscar winning performance for the "ROUGH WATER" scene.
Love fishing on that jetty and watching amateur hour with the boats
Great info!!
That boat handle it easy! I hope my does the same when I get it done
Capt Mike you were going to link that large straw hat. Any chance to add the link to this post? Thanks brother.
Good info 👍🏼
Great Video guys! I'll take the Scout!
Good video thank you. I’m new to Jupiter and see a tough entry/exit can you go there and do a Jupiter Inlet tip video?
Blue Top Legend 👊🏻💪🏻
Even though that's boca, red top is haulover
Smaller bots at full throttle is best for hsulover oassge with big waves, much more fun from captains perspective at full speed balls to n the wall. Going slow is boring and slow.
@@daveanderson1802 I've only seen BTL at Haulover..
Thank you I just got my first boat and will be taking out my 1720 key west out there
But, But the flailing about is the reason I watch haulover videos. Especially the stuffing!
Exactly.
What app do you recommend downloading for checking wind and tides?
I don’t know the word I’m looking for but I would like to come fishing there but being my own but I’ve never drove a boat through any inlet and it does look very I can’t think the word but intimidating!!!!!! That’s it!! Yea no doubt I wasn’t afraid of the keys I been going there for years but that I let does look very intimidating to go through it
Did you see the blue top legend?
That is the only thing that matters now. ;-)
Whats wrong with you dopes, those girls in the blue top whaler are in boca. This is pops on the red top whaler that hugs the north jetty
Getting out is one thing but getting back in with a following sea can be really dangerous. You should do a video on that
Captain Crystal Ball needs to get him a real sun hat like someone who's been out on the water and burnt to within a half degree of looking like Kansas City barbecue.
Great video guys. As a viewer from England I am always extremely surprised to see no one wearing life jackets. I mean NO ONE! Why is this? Is it uncool to be safe?
Anyone know the brand the black hulled boat that is in this video???
i need a hat like that one
I always thought you need to some speed to keep the boat on plane and trim lower to keep now closer to water line. So if less bumpy. (Thought won’t stop the splash. ) wouldn’t keeping trim up with bow elevated lead to more bumps
Yes there are several situations where speed is required.
Bravo brother
Love the hat.
A buddy’s dad kept some old bean-bags in the cabin he’d toss against the transom as seats. We still got soaked because he always went ‘hell-bent for leather’ but at least you didn’t look like an old bruised up banana after a day of fishing.
Would a breakwater make Haulover inlet more beginner friendly?
BLACKTOP LEGEND @ 0:06 !!!!
Hmmm it seems it posted my comments twice (sorry) Thank you! I have a 36 foot cruiser and I'm a SAFE BOATER, and member of Boat US. I invite USCG courtesy inspections. I'm pretty aghast at some of the Haulover videos. How NOT to boat - its not funny when someone is injured. You can see "crew" being slammed and hurt. If you are the skipper, their life is in YOUR hands. My rule: My boat, my rules, I'm the skipper of the vessel, and it is my responsibility to keep you safe. Leave the beer at the pier. Putting people in the bow in a bow rider is asking for injury - and though I'm not a doctor, I have to believe that is causing spinal compression- it actually hurts to watch. Taking the sides of the channel, maintaining steerage way and not injuring people - or knocking them overboard is SAFE BOATING. In rough water? PFD's. And NO Alcohol, until back at the slip tied up, after a day of beautiful boating - Alcohol and sea water can make a deadly cocktail. Safe Boating!!
Yeah i was wondering how the shoaling and sandbars effect coming in and out of haulover
Great tutorial! (Coming from someone who's never been there and probably never will)
Great stuff gents, question - folks wearing lifejackets are non-existent, why is that? Thanks again.
There are MANY worse inlets. Compared to some of them this one is WIDE & DEEP and as a result, better then so many. Most of the problems shown are those that have no business running a boat in the first place.
Take the side and glide on by. Take the center..... Hold my beer!
Prefer smaller boat then what your running with big waves at close to full throttle for safe fun passage through haulover.
Video should also include wearing life jackets for captain and all crew on board.
Full send
1:don't load 10 people in a rental boat!
Trim? Explain how and when please
The angle of the motor will bring the bow up or down. You'll usually find the engine trip on the side of your throttle. Trim up to bring bow up and vice versa.
Life-jackets? And number two is take it slow-the people who add power just hit the waves harder.
How about gnarlier days? When is it better to slow the boat, when is it better to go faster? How do I know? How to manage big days without stuffing the bow?
Where are you going when it’s gnarly?
Also, should go without saying, everyone in the boat should wear a life jacket.
Same with ponce inlet 🏴☠️ get tips
How dies your latitude ride compared to the other boat (blue one) you fish?
Much different.
@@ReelReports what was the other boat? When you say diffrent, would you say better?
@@ReelReports Contender or Latitude?
Radar is not required on vessels under 1600 GT (33 CFR 164.35), however, Rule 7 states that . In other words, whoever has one must use it. The Navigation Rules are not meant to discourage the use of any device, rather they expect prudent mariners to avail themselves of (Rule 5), e.g. the use of radar. At issue is whether the use of radar is appropriate in the prevailing circumstances and that is a determination made by the Master; and, ultimately decided by a trier of fact. Should you be in a collision how would a judge/jury rule on your contention that the use of radar was impracticable (due to electrical drain, crew shortages, etc.)? Also, if a collision does occur, then there was obviously a beforehand. Could the determination of that risk have been made sooner with the use of radar? It is difficult to answer such questions because the circumstances of each case are different.
Great video but maybe next time address coming back into the inlet. That’s the trickiest part. 👍
Great advice but forgot to say that life jackets should be worn and why are you not wearing them yourselves to prove that point. I am from New Zealand and everyone must wear a life jacket in a vessel of up to six metres or the skipper can receive an infringement cost of up to $300. Over six metres there must be one readily available for everyone.
Love the use of the PFD's/s
Your guess was on Big Brother??
Awesome video. Come down to homosassa make a video with me. I'll teach people how to leave the area without hitting rocks and oysters lol.
Tip IV: Keep your Type IV's at the immediate ready Tip V: Make sure all passengers are wearing their PFD's.
I’m surprised that neither captain mentioned PFDs. Is this a cultural thing in FL?
Finally, Real Captains who Earn their license,Always wonder why Going so fast
I want to go here so bad
1:55 What is that boat manufacturer?
Scout
Just in the last couple days I've watched so many videos of so many multi hundred-thousand-dollar boats just slamming their hulls into the water
Grew up fishing haulover but I must admit, I much prefer it from shore. 😂 Also glad I don't live down there anymore; we won't go into why. 😒
Come up to sebastian inlet and do that on a rough day. Make a video..... And you're never gonna do that at Sebastian with hugging. The sides because there is fisherman everywhere. It's way more narrow also, And gets nasty because it is so skinny. I go out on a ski before and after storms and it gets huge there.,monster hole & just to the north The heading out of the inlet right on your Northeast side.
It would be nice to see someone, besides the police and coast guard, wearing life preservers once in a while. Surprising that more people aren’t drowned at these wind over tide inlets.
This video is years old and still we see endless idiots putting their passengers in danger.
Why was the jetty closed?
Looks like a part of it collapsed
@@ReelReports Damn no way! I haven't gone in a few weeks. I really gotta invest in a boat now, I think this is the universe speaking to me!!
@@miamiwax5504 This is the absolute worst time in decades to buy a boat low inventory and dealers jacked up all of the prices due to the influx Of so many people Wanting their slice of that Florida lifestyle
Enunciate when you say your channel name. I couldn't understand what you said.
No life jackets? Are you kidding me? Put life Jackets on everyone.
Wish I was a Florida man.
👍
Puerto Rico in the house . Here since the beginning of the channel !!
He Captain, you must know my uncle who was Captain of a USN Aircraft carrier. The title of "Captain" is used ridiculously these days. I have to admit though, the "Urban Sombrero" you are wearing is way to cool for words.
stuff the bow!
What about Haulover inlet Fail video photographers. They have to find another job now? :D
any chance your gonna run it when it's rough so we can see how a reeel captain does it ?
We plan on doing it Fred. Thanks for tuning in.
Ya- know, Ya-know, Ya-know. Yes we know.
What hat are you wearing at the very beginning of this video? Thank you.
A hand-made mexican straw hat. They will be available on Livebait.com
Just to summarize,If you want to be yelled by your wife go for the middle inlet. 😁👍
I dont know. Pretty wealthy area, Cant they get it dredged?
Ok now do another one but with the camera pointing to the front so we see what you see.
All common sense with a boater with a little experience. It seems many people out on the water don’t want to know what they’re doing. Lol
Keep the bow up keep the bow up keep the bow up that’s what you have to do here people letting waves come over the bow don’t go on plain keep the bow up with all the weight in the back let the hull eat the waves that way that’s the best way to make it through large waves
Wind against tide is the creator of nasty water.
Yet,people still go up the middle
