  • This is the first time I could see real concern in Keith's face. But like a good aviator or captain, he remembered his training, "calm begets calm". Well done, Keith!

"If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, . . . Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And - which is more - you’ll be a Man, my son!"

  • There was a fellow sailor on a cat that made that route maybe 10 years ago. He was a dentist from Arizona I believe. He addressed the stresses on the boat (especially cats) with speed. He dragged a line behind the boat with various things (junk) attached to slow the boat down and minimize speed. I wish I could find his site again. Anyway he also had a segment with huge winds on the Red Sea.

    • This is what they talk about regarding how these adventures will one day affect the kids. They are learning calm, learning respect and order, all needed in situations like this. Kids growing up living their lives on the Internet in their basements will never have such enrichment. These are the kids that will grow up to have anxiety issues, need Xanax and be clueless in emergencies. Keep up the good work zatara, ignore the naysayers who say things like depriving your kids, bla bla bla. This is REAL life adventure and education, the real one that will forever shape their lives. There will always be time for formal education, right now THIS IS LIVING LIFE.

I would never ever do this because I'm terrified of waves and sharks so I am shocked and amazed at the same time. Although I do feel like I'm on this journey with you now! Your boat is beautiful! Safe travels! 😍
