  • Everyone please be respectful in the comments! Be positive to each other, no need for negativity here! I know you all don't always agree and want to debate but just please be respectful. Also, I understand Aespa did this style before NMIXX lol it was not meant to be disrespectful. It was just me seeing a similarity in songs. I appreciate you all informing me, I always want to learn more. However, no one owns the style even if certain companies use it more than others. So please do not argue about this with each other lmao. Lets keep it positive! Much love!

    • no, SM alr have SMP (SM music performance) genre, combines rock, r&b, hip hop, and absolutely, pop since 90s till now. and nmixx introduced mixxpop, they called it the first one to do mixed genre in kpop 😂. many SMstan (fans of the SM company) mad bcs of that, i get it why they mad in this comment section. maybe next u should react to other SMP songs like SNSD - I Got A Boy (the one makes this kind of song popular), Red Velvet - Zimzalabim, Super Junior - House Party (they have many controversies; so i personally not recommend it), F(x) - Rum Pum Pum Pum/Red Light, TVXQ - Rising Sun (2005), H.O.T. - I Yah! (1999) SM doesn’t claim the mixing genre, because they know they are not the one who create it (it’s black people). But they are the first one to do this and make it popular in kpop. it’s the point that SM Stan want to say, nmixx not the first one to do mixing 2 or more genre in one song (mixxpop) in kpop. JYPE set the girlies up, they waste their talents

  • ohhh Next Level and Savage dominated the charts, Next Level even won daesangs. The hate on O.O was because it was done poorly. SM (aespa's company) has been perfecting this sound for the last 20 years and it's only natural that they did it wonderfully. Other than O.O having bad mixing JYP tried to take credit on the sound SM has been long perfecting, by saying NMIXX is a new sound in kpop with the so called "mixx pop". When the most popular sound change song in kpop is Girls Generations I Got a Boy that was released in 2013. Which is an artist from SM, there are several other examples from H.O.T(a 2000s boy group), F(x), and NCT, which are all from SM Entertainment.

  • aespa's 'Next Level' and 'Savage' was MUCH MORE popular in Korea, Next Level WAS THE SYNDROME OF KOREA LAST YEAR. The dance craze with and the choreo of doing the Korean letter ㄷ that sounds like 'd' in English, went nuts and it stayed on the MelOn chart top 10 for 27 weeks. 'Savage' went #1 on all charts associated in Korea named, 'Perfect All-Kill'. I suggest you to watch the SM Culture Universe ep. 1 and ep. 2, entitled by their first two songs, 'Black Mamba' and 'Next Level'. KWANGYA is a place that is the utopia they want to go to along with the "metaverse" counterparts. This was created by the founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo-man. Even singers from their company, SM, is part of KWANGYA (much to their confused state of why are they suddenly absorbed into this lore) and you will see other artists from their company like NCT, EXO, and others mentioning it in their lyrics. I enjoy your reactions! Keep up the good work!

  • The song next level was in fact sampled mostly from a fast and furious track song! Karina's vocal in SAVAGES prechorus "ooaaaah" makes me ascend to the gates of heaven. P.S Kwangya is the a.i universe that the black mamba is threatening to inflitrate aka the GLOBE that Giselle was controlling at 1:29 It was also my bias, my homegurl, my idol Giselle that does ALL the back harmony and adlibs for savages prechorus that you liked so you can thank her amazing vocal fry for that the synth blends in so well with it. Aespa did experiment alot with switching up their genre and music before nmixx even debuted so i guess you can say its authentic and original to aespa, but nmixx really owns that concept.

  • I think a lot would be more obvious to you if you associate the SM style of producing and the sound of all these SM groups: Aespa, NCT, EXO, Red Velvet, SuperM... ---- They make sure to include wonderful vocalists in the groups and then vocal moments in the songs like those shouts. They also tend to do the instrumental wobble dance break, and a lot of electronic music and unique synths, some edgy harmonies... And I think you can say each group has their own signature soundscape within this, but also they all share something. So MAYBE that's why a weird song like this isn't "so weird" for the listeners used to the SM sound because they expect and get all those boxes checked still. You will notice even if weird and noisy, the equalization, mastering of the sound, the texture, is all top-notch production. * Also, I think NMIXX gets random unnecessary hate, because it's an amazing project with top notch vocals and production too. Sometimes the haters... are just bored and have nothing better to hate I guess?

  • As you're starting to discover, in order to understand aespa's storyline, you really have to pay attention to the lyrics of their songs, because the lyrics help to explain aespa's concept and what is happening in their MVs. aespa's "Next Level" MV is designed to help explain a little more about what we saw happening in their debut "Black Mamba" MV. Have you watched aespa's "aespa 'ep1. Black Mamba' - SM Culture Universe" and "aespa ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" videos yet? If you haven't, I really suggest you watch those videos if you want to understand more about aespa's storyline. Those videos came out right before "Next Level" and "Girls" were released. It's the first and second episodes of aespa's drama and it explains in more detail about aespa's storyline. It explains the group's backstory, the concepts in their storyline and meaning of the words in their songs in more detail. The way I see it is, there are two dimensions: aespa in the real world and their avatars (Kwangya) world. (Everything SM does has to do with Kwangya -- even SM's new building where everything is created and produced is called Kwangya. Kwangya is the metaverse that all of SM's storylines revolve around.) aespa are connected to their avatars and everything the aespa members do in real life gives power to their avatars. However, because of the Black Mamba's temptation aespa and their avatars cannot connect through the SYNK app anymore, so their avatars become lost. (The evil force or hacker who aespa is battling is Black Mamba, which is sometimes represented by the black snake you see in aespa's story.) Therefore, I think in "Next Level" aespa is on a mission to try and stop the Black Mamba hacker and find their avatars in order to re-establish a connection. Fun fact: The song intentionally switches up in "Next Level" at that specific moment because, if you pay attention to the lyrics, it says "naevis calling," which is referring to the fact that their avatars are summoning them to their Kwangya realm, so they teleport to the virtual realm, where everything is different, and then when the beat switches back to "Next Level" they are shown going back to the real world. Everything SM does, even the most minute detail, such as the structure of the song is done for a very specific reason. However, this is far from the first time SM has ever done mashups and had songs where it switches up the beat to a completely different song in the middle of the song. It started with songs like Girls' Generations "I Got A Boy," and they have done it with SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)", F(X) and Red Velvet and NCT/WayV songs, and even SuperM's song "One (Monster & Infinity)." It's a very signature SM style. I am also starting to wonder if maybe aespa has something to do with the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline, because, if you notice, in "Next Level," you see aespa and their avatars with what looks like the mother tree from the Hollywood movie "Avatar." Therefore, I wonder if maybe aespa were made the guardians of the Tree of Life, tasked with hiding the two halves of the tree. So, maybe the Tree of Life is what the Black Mamba is after. I think the Black Mamba maybe working with the Red Force from EXO's storyline, or it could be a separate evil being who also wants to find the Tree of Life and prevent peace from being restored in the Universe. As we are told in the intro of EXO's debut "Mama" MV, the Tree of Life was split in half in order to prevent the Red Force from gaining control of the heart of the Tree of Life. However, things on Earth have gotten out of hand, so now EXO needs to reunite the two halves of the tree in order to restore peace. So, I think part of EXO's mission is they are on a quest to find aespa in order to reveal where the tree was hidden. naevis is the creator and designer of the Kwangya world, kind of like the site administrator -- -- she is the avatar you see with the short hair in the "Savage" MV. Which is why in the lyrics they say, " MY naevis ... where you lead we follow," etc., because they trust naevis to protect them from the Black Mamba and protect the virtual word, etc. (MY is the name of aespa's fans, which could possibly mean that their fans are naevis because the fans are the ones who protect aespa and defend them from the evils of society, etc.) In "Savage" I think aespa is under the Black Mamba hacker's control and they are gearing up to fight the Black Mamba in order to gain back control and to connect with their avatars once again. I think the eye symbol you see in the "Savage" MV has something to do with the Black Mamba because it looks like a serpent's eye. The giant eye might be what the Black Mamba hacker uses to spy on everything and to keep in control, which is why Winter shoots the eye in order to destroy it. And I also think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as EXO Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and EXO Kai's "Mmmh" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. (And it could even be connected to the eye in in SHINee Key's solo "Gasoline" MV.) The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. (It could possibly be a metaphor for how "big brother" government is always watching us, and is always in control behind the scenes, etc.) Often, when characters within SM MVs have blue eyes or different eye colors, as you see with Karina's eyes in "Savage," this usually is an indication that that person isn't themselves, i.e. they aren't who we think they are. It is thought to be used to show that they are a clone or alter ego, etc., under the control of an evil force. The meaning of the white butterfly will make more sense and be explained once you see their ep. 2 video. (However, the larger colorful butterfly you see is Ningning's symbol which represents her.)

  • Before continuing, you should definitely check out their b-sides and Dream come true mv, if you haven’t yet. Aespa’s concept is definitely unique and the music is not for everyone lol. But if you like Nmixx’s music, aespa’s music will definitely grow on you. I do suggest (that is if you’re looking to dig deeper into them), start with their SMCU eps. Their music videos and the lyrics will make so much more sense! I promise.

  • Actually each member of aespa has a super power and that’s the point of « savage », they are showcasing their abilities. Karina has a rocket punch, winter can create arms, Giselle can speak and understand any languages, an ningning is a strong hacker

    • They live in a world where everyone has an « ae » which is basically yourself but in the metaverse and it acts and looks like what you post of yourself on internet. Some people can interact with their ae and this is called « Synk ». But there is a virus « black mamba » that destroys the « SYNK » so they used « synk-dive » to dive into « Kwangya » which is basically the metaverse and that’s where black mamba lives. Black mamba is the starting point, the attack of the virus. Then we have next level where they go into kwangya. Then they are under black mamba’s curse in savage. And in girls, they kill black mamba.
